i wished if the music volume is lower, is was hard for me to listen to what he was saying from my phone, but overall it's a good job i enjoyed watching it, thank you.
I had a lesson with the The Buddha of Suburbia and the class was all about racial identity which bothered me because to me, it was more about adolescent self-exploring/searching than Indians trying to fit into the British society. They were Indians living in Britain but the story was never about them trying to "fit in" per say. It was just "how it was" for them with each having a different background and experience.
@@johnappleby405 Thank you for that correction tho there are 200 million muslims in India: India (popuation 1.6 Billion) is a Sanatan Dharmic culture very different experience to Pakistani's.. origin many of whom confusingy have ancestors from India but now they have after only a few generations amalgamated into Pakistan & Islam
@@call6060842 There might be 200 millions Muslims in India, but the character is of Pakistani origins, that's factual (also I think India has 1.3 billions peoples, not 1.6).
Batt Mann I don’t think so. He doesn’t have Dickens’ range, wide cast, imaginative sympathy or prolific nature. Kureishi wrote his best book first, and even then only for the first 70 pages.
- These Asian characters have never been potrayed before in cinemas, theatre’s etc. or in literature at all, so him, as a writer has to bring new news to open the door to new voices - it was a casual racism: Certainly after the war, they still had the attitude of the British Empire, the thought of being the master race and being superior to to others. Therefore they looked down on the Indians bc they thought they were inferior and uneducated and basically born to be their servants. - he wants to wiggle out of the traumatic state/position he found himself in as being a victim to other peoples attitudes (the Brits‘). Otherwise he would just disappear.

Yuka Momoyo
Per se, not per say.
I think the characters were from Pakistan and not India.

@@xxxcodmxxx If that's your impression I'd say that says more about you than the novel.
That was so interesting guys !

He is one of my heroes. Could have gone without the music though. It is a bit like sitting in a dentist‘s chair.
qui est la grace a la LLCE ?
😭
haha...
Great interview . Annoying background music , why music at all?
Hanif Kureishi is positively Dickensian in his quality. By far and away the best writer of the late 20th/early 21st Century imo, a true great.

I think he’s like Chekhov more, but a true great. His work will be read and re-read. He’s underrated now.
Do you have the black album hanif kureishi novel?
I love the way he speaks
A lil bit like Forrest Gump no?
Buddha is still his best. Or at least for the first 70 pages where he’s apeing VS Naipaul.
Unbearable and unnecessary music, shame...
I love the music. Is it known?
No music, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Qui est là grâce à la LLCE?
tu veux quoi toi ?
