She's got the most incredible facial bone structure. It's unreal.
OMG, she had the nation's youth in the palm of her hand. But that voice
Debbie was absolutely stunning. Just a gorgeous woman and what a voice!
Debbie’s voice and look are part of my DNA at this point. I still want to be her after all these years 😍
I saw interview where she was asked if her good looks prevented her from being taken seriously and did it upset her? In typical Debbie style she said "No! It was good for business. I'm a lucky bitch, what can I say!" I thought that was great.
@@redpine8665 This dress is iconic !
I've always felt they're a punk band at heart and they were making fun of disco with this. Almost like a parody but, but smashed it way out the park.
This FUCKING song is just AMAZING!! Even tho it is the end of the disco era and the dawn of the 80s when released, it never gets old, goes out of fashion or sound dated!! Nothing else sounds like it before or since!!
People think Blondie were a disco band but it was just this song. They, live Abba were very eclectic. Every song is a different genre and ask if their songs are very good.
Blondie was a Punk Band in the begining
@Foreigner, you really shouldn't label yourself as a foreigner*. That is just nationalistic nonsense. We are all children of Gaia, our Mother Earth, whichever passport we possess.
*Unless you actually represent the band Foreigner.
They were a punk band having released two albums that were punk oriented and it was those fans who enjoyed their punk roots that called them sellouts for experimenting with different genres of music on the album "Parallel Lines" which hit #1 and spawned several hit songs.
They experimented with disco, rock and new wave and got the very first #1 rap song on the Hot 100 with "Rapture" and the very first reggae fused song to hit #1 on the Hot 100 with a cover of the song "The Tide Is High".
It's not a real disco song... it's something else... from another planet.
Brilliant song, legendary. Always on every dance-floor a bomb.
She is so beautiful it still catches me after more than 20 years this video
Love the band....Parallel Lines is a great album. One of their songs "11:59" is my favorite and it is one that is not known by many. It is a real jam.
It’s a perfect album. Totally flawless. “Fade Away and Radiate” is the one that gets me.
Also my fave. Shoudv been a single
Yessss, finally Blondie reactions! I've not seen many on UA-cam!
Love Blondie, great band. Clem is my favorite drummer. Debbie is a great front woman
It's an iconic song without any doubt!
Still rocking....saw them last year....Deborah Harry is so cool. She’s out there trying to save the bees too.....
Too beautiful?!! Damn she's gorgeous!! 🤩🤩
Just loved her, Debbie Harry, the rest of the group, good too! This particular song I love. She is 76 yrs old & ofcourse a millionaire!! xx
4:25 -- the words in the video say "had a heart of glass" but her lips say "to be a pain in the ass" (the album version). I remember first seeing this video on "The Midnight Special" in the late 70s and it's what turned me on to Blondie. I went out later and got their "Parallel Lines" album. If you want to hear and see them at their best (and Debbie at her most appealing), you must check out the official video for "Hanging On The Telephone."
yes!
Porfle Popnecker I just put that comment but 2 months after you. I wonder what was the point in changing it. It’s not exactly obscene
Heart of glass hit #1 in April 1979 ❤️🎵🎧
LOVE Blondie!
What a great time it was, back then! Wish music could get good again.
Merveilleux souvenirs j'ai tellement écouté Blondie, merci
I bought this as a 45 back in 1978. Love this song
Well considering I was 9 when this came out and I'm fucking 50 this year.....but her style was always beyond. Her hair and outfit is now. She's in her 70s now. God time goes by fast.
Debbie Harry - possibly the most beautiful woman who ever walked the earth. Blondie are my favourite band ever - Heart of Glass is probably their biggest most well known song in the general public, but it's not really representative of their music. There are whole documentaries devoted to how this song was recorded. It doesn't contain any synths it's completely played by the band and took hours and hours to construct. Interestingly you watched the US version which overdubs the last verse - Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out, to be a pain in the ass (apparently ass is a rude word in the USA) You should try Atomic, Rapture (the first rap record ever to go to the US number 1) , X Offender, Denis, The Tide is High, Doom or Destiny, Union City Blue, Dreaming. Also have you thought about Eurythmics? Sweet Dreams, Beethoven, Love is a stranger
Thank you looking forward to reacting to more Blondie and more!
Let's not forget Mike Chapman's role as producer who pushed them to get it done.
By the way The Tide is His is a cover of an older reggae song.
I like your comment and I really like Blondie. I just have to correct some information. It does contain synths but, as the story goes, those fast notes were actually played (not sequenced or using an arpeggiator or a saw wave LFO from the synth), which is hard to do precise enough. I'm not sure why they ended up doing it that way because I don't remember all of it. Anyway, having that synthesizer is a very good thing and it also fits the song very well. As a musician and a songwriter I'm fascinated by these things.
I also like that you mentioned Eurythmics. They're also fantastic. I like how these (new wave, new romantic, "synth pop" etc.) bands and artists played synthesizers and created sounds with them. Some songs ended up sounding like a small symphony. The melodies and especially the harmonies were the key.
... And Sunday girl!!! 😍😍😍
I love that you are listening to Blondie. Deborah Harry as a solo artist was so underrated. You should check out her music videos for Backfired, Sweet and Low and In Love with Love. Also I Want That Man really showcases the different register to her voice! Thank you for your videos.
Dereck - I've fallen in love with the way you talk about the music and the whole visual. I am simply in the process of going all the way back to your channel.
You are absolutely amazing in the way you make reaction videos.
I have to say thanks to you for that ❤🙏
Blondie are very much a BAND. Debbie Harry is the singer.
I have a hunch you might grow quite fond of another Blondie song: Atomic. Other tips: Picture This, Sunday Girl, Union City Blue, Rapture.
Atomic is like a trance tune a decade before trance.
Call Me is another great song that also went to #1.
Union City Blue is my favorite Blondie song ever. The hooks in that song are world-class.
Blondie. They had many great songs. i really loved them. and Debbie Harry is such a charismatic artist, until today. what about "Rapture" ?
Interesting that you pointed out that they are being experimental. I was a kid when this came out, and I used to listen to the New York stations on my little radio in my bedroom. When this song came out, it struck like no other song I’d heard before. Between the voice and the musical arrangement, it sounded to me like a catchy as hell song from the future. I was obsessed with Debbie Harry after that.
This came out in early '79 in Australia. " In the Flesh " was a hit here the year before.
It was release in Australia in 1976 as a single.
Brings back a lot of memories. My sister was really into Blondie. I enjoy your reactions a lot. Thank you. 🙋😁💜
Heart of Glass is my favorite song of all-time, and Blondie is my favorite group of all-time!
That is right
Merveilleuse, fascinante .. envoûtante... Debbie Harry , merci Dereck.....
1978..
Love Blondie. They were actually much more commercially successful here in the UK than in their native US I'd recommend Picture This - Hanging On The Telephone - One Way Or Another - Call Me - Maria but there is a wealth of good stuff to choose from.
One way or another was used in so many films... Love it so much..
NYC late ‘70’s, magical
Those mirrored balls were used in the 1920’s in dance places!!!
She was just captivating wasn’t she! 😊
Picture This ...if there was ever a perfect pop song!
Debbie Harry - Blondie's main singer - was my childhood crush along with Lindsay Wagner aka The Bionic Woman!
1978 and still fresh and Debbie looking like Marilyn Monroe. Blondie really liked Marilyn. Your reaction shows you really liked this british group, nice to see that.
They have a song called "Maria" I rarely hear anymore that's really nice.
if you have not seen the video or heard the song union city blue it is my fave blondie song it feels like a warm wave crashing over your head along with sunday girl a No 1 here in the UK no offical video but tv appearences on here they have had six No 1 songs here from heart of glass in 1979 to Maria in 1999.
Yes, it's very unique because I tried to copy it and I sounded like a chipmunk😂 Sounds easy to sing but I had to sing it more than a dozen times to sound decent enough. This is why I admire ❤️Miley for not copying Blondie😘
Clem Burke was a VERY talented drummer too. He played for: The Romantics, Eurythmics, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, Pete Townsend, stood in for the drummer in The Ramones etc.
The song 'Dreaming' [by Blondie] shows him off well. So with my teenage heart throb [Debbie] an all round talented group!
Blondie were huge in europe a good two years before heart of glass broke them in the states they is much more to see and hear from them check out their videos for in the flesh, denis, presence dear, picture this, union city blue, dreaming, detriot 442, and debbie's solo work I want that man, brite side, and sweet and low she is just awesome i could go on forever tv clips for much of their material on you tube.
this a perfect song for all generations the combination of the bee gees kraftwerk and the book of lolita the more you listen the more you liking this masterpiece pop song.
Oh my, Deborah Harrie... Heart of Glass was my soph yr of hs... I didn't have a single buddy that didn't experience pulse rate jump with her... Blondie...rocked!!
Amazing man, hoping to see more reactions like this! I like it
I love your 80s reactions omg.
You should see her in the live version in her blue dress from 1976!
If you wanna hear how this song began, search Blondie "Once I had a Love" from 1975
Debbie Harry is an icon
I think for someone it’s love at first sight 😉 .good reaction to song also.
Wow, your reaction was beyond boring! To one of the most Iconic Bands of all time. Blondie, as a Band, changed the course of music forever one of the leading Bands of Punk Rock, New Wave, Rock Music. They are part of Rock Royalty in the 70s and 80s, a complete new sound coming out of NY. The world was forever changed! They were part of an Amazing time a community of Artist that where all friends, The Ramones, The NY Dolls, Andy Warhol Jean-Michel Basquiat all of these Amazing people have given us such priceless Art a vision a sound. Till this day, new performers sample their music/sound. There are No new bads out their that can even come close to what they have left a musical legacy. This is what a true Artist is!! Blondie is a Band Debbie Harry is the singer of Blondie 😉 🖤
I saw Blondie live at the end of 2017. With Debbie Harry, it was never so much her singing voice (to be honest, it was never all that spectacular), but her stage presence, which she still has in spades. The other thing that the concert brought home to me was quite how talented Chris Stein and Clem Burke are as musicians.
100 years ago or 100 years from now the men will be smiling for sure..
Great reaction! You reacted to the censored version of this song/video as the uncensored version had the verse
"Once had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass".
This might make Blondie seem like a disco group, but they were considered Rock and Roll, like Joan Jet and the Blackhearts, I remember when they showed up, trust me. Rock and Roll
Alison Montana Blondie were more like New Wave/Punk. Joan Jett was more Hard Rock with a touch of Punk. Very very different styles. Joan Jett would never have been played in the clubs I went to but Blondie were staples and I am talking about before they went disco
@@personalcheeses8073 Blonde and Joan Jett just made a song together 2 years ago. "Doom and desteny" 🔥💕
Fyi... Blondie is the name of the band, Debbie Harry is the lead singer here. You called all the elements of this correctly. Up till that time Blondie had been a punk band. The orig demo for Heart of Glass had a laid back reggae beat. It was the producer who ramped up the song to compete w the disco market, which was fading out by 1980. New Wave took the melodic, uptempo beats of disco and married it w the angst and energy of punk music. Heart of Glass was a huge crossover for Blondie, and Debbie Harry. She eventually went solo in the late 80s. Check her out!
It's all about that bass, that bass, lol. A little Hammond organ doesn't hurt either.
Hey, Dereck! Thank you for this Blondie reactions and also for your ABBA reactions! Although Blondie takes its name due to the lead singer, Debbie Harry, and the catcalls she received whenever she walked down the street, the truth is that Blondie is a band. In 1979 when Blondie toured they included merchandise such as buttons that said "Blondie is a band". It is a common mistake so I don't blame you. In regards of Heart of Glass, this was Blondie's first US #1 hit and at the time many people criticized them for selling out due to the fact that they jumped in the disco music bandwagon. However, Heart of Glass is not representative of Blondie's discography. By saying this I don't mean to say that Heart of Glass is not a good song or whatsoever because it's truly great and as you said it's one of those classics that you never get bored of listening. What I mean is that their discography is eclectic. They have performed pop, new wave, reggae, calypso, rockabilly. Even to this day, cause Blondie still exists albeit a considerably different lineup, Blondie still experiments with a wide variety of sounds and music genres.
Have you heard the Blondie vs Abba remix Hanging On The Ring Ring on UA-cam.
I like in the beginning how they show the 'Studio 54' sign in NYC.
Studio 54 in the opening shots. F*cking iconic.
We had so much fun you have no idea we danced all night you didn't leave the dance floor
😍😍😍😍😍
" ATOMIC " !
At 4.28 you can see she sings ‘a pain in the ass’ which are the lyrics I am used to but on this version it’s changed to ‘heart of glass’. I wonder why? It’s not exactly obscene
Jailbreak, acdc, Bon Scott please. Keep up the good work mate.
Did you catch the Studio 54 sign towards the beginning? Love it! And sad to see the World Trade Center towers at the beginning and the end of the video.
Please please check out 'Angels On The Balcony' and 'Bermuda Triangle Blues'
Union City Blue
Dreaming
Both from 1979, different style but also essential. Exhilarating but not in the way Heart of Glass is.
Did he say what the Heart of Glass video clip filmed at Studio 54?
It's not Disco. It is New Wave Punk. It spun out of disco which was just dance music. New Wave had an intentional dark distain for society's norms and set in a techno future, the punk of it. The hardcore later morphed into the mosh pit screamer genre. That far off in the distant, floating sound was their trademark.
Why doesn't this video appear on to your "Blondie" playlist ?
Have you not yet done Dreaming by Blondie!!
Great reaction! In this video she reminds me of the character in scarface played by Michelle Pfeiffer. It's got that kinda clubs and drugs vibe. As you're into hot blondes, try this banging tune: The time is now by Moloko.
Here is a clip from the movie where Michelle is dancing to a Debbie Harry song. The song is from the movie. ua-cam.com/video/hOV6Tex48WY/v-deo.html
@@janthurfors3247 Good spot. Thanks for that!
Just have to react to their "new" song "Fun" 👌💕
Is that Ivan Kral playing the guitar ?
Didn't Girls look beautiful and natural All the Guys in my day were in love with Her
The last "heart of glass" is supposed to be "pain in the ass" ... read her lips...I don't know why they dubbed over it...weird...
Good reaction!
Have you reacted to Destination Unknown, by Missing Persons?
Debbie Harry is as punk rock as it gets.
I see you like to review female singers. I would recommend any live performance from Beth Hart. Etta and Janis would be proud of this one. Vocals are unmatched.
Am I the one, caught in the rain, I’d rather go blind.
before Gaga and Madonna there was Debbie.
Please react to Carly Simon.
Deborah Harry! The best!!
Oh please!!! React to Rapture, blown-minded song
They overdubbed her 'big pain the ass' line in the final verse and replaced it with 'heart of glass' again.
hi dereck pleeeeze check out lynda ronsdat .
Derek, you re different, something in the face, are you botoxing? :D
I liked her but she needed something decent to sing. This song is a nothing song. Without her it would be less than nothing. The song they used for American Gigolo was probably her best. Such a shame to waste a talented artist.
Do you ever analyze lyrics in songs?
Her name is Debbie Harry, not Blondie. "Blondie" is the name of the band.
Yes, they did change their name after she got cat-called on the street when she dyed her hair, but you keep calling her Blondie. That's just... wrong. Thought you should know.
