  • Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez and Adrian Tomine sit down for an informal discussion of their methods, influences, some alternative comics history and more. This meeting of three of the most accomplished and influential alternative cartoonists working today is not to be missed!
Gilbert Hernandez was born in Oxnard, California, and is the co- creator, with his brothers Jaime and Mario, of the long-running, award-winning, and critically acclaimed series Love and Rockets. He is best known for his Palomar stories, following a fictional Central American town and its residents, collected in Heartbreak Soup, Human Diastrophism, and Beyond Palomar. Hernandez has won numerous awards for his stories, including the Kirby Award, the Inkpot Award, the Harvey Award, and the United States Artists Literature Fellowship. His newest book is the dual collection Hypnotwist/Scarlet By Starlight. He resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife and daughter.
Jaime Hernandez, together with his brothers Gilbert and Mario, co-created the award-winning comic book series Love and Rockets. He is best known for his Locas stories, which follow the exploits (romantic and platonic) of his original characters, Maggie and Hopey. Love and Rockets has evolved into one of the great bodies of American literary fiction, spanning four decades and countless high-water marks in the medium's history. In 2017, Jaime was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame, has won innumerable comics awards, and was the 2014 winner of The Los Angeles Times Book Prize. He lives in Altadena, California, with his wife, Meg.
Adrian Tomine was born in 1974 in Sacramento, California. He began self-publishing his comic book series Optic Nerve when he was sixteen, and in 1994 he received an offer to publish from Drawn & Quarterly. His comics have been anthologized in publications such as McSweeney’s, Best American Comics, and Best American Nonrequired Reading, and his graphic novel Shortcomings was a New York Times Notable Book of the year. Since 1999, Tomine has been a regular contributor to the New Yorker. His latest book is The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and daughters.
