This week Schony747 is showcasing the outstanding restoration of SW6 Tram 881 which now resides at The Dockline Tram in Auckland New Zealand. Dockline is a part of the MOTAT museum (Museum of Transport and Technology). Clinton Pearce from Tramworks New Zealand is the mastermind behind the amazing transformation and explains what was undertaken to bring this award winning project to fruition. Both SW6 852 and 881 now reside in New Zealand. 852 is in as delivered condition from Melbourne and gives a very good comparison between the old and the new restoration. I'm sure opinions will be varied but after seeing the tram in person, I can tell you this is a great restoration.
At some point in the future, The Dockline Tram will close and all trams will be transferred to the main MOTAT museum.

Good to see the W class.
Yes mate and 881 looks great!
Fantastic video and amazing restoration. I love the return of the trolley pole. I was interested to see a W Class Melbourne tram in Christchurch when I last visited in 2019.
The whole tram looks great. The trolley pole is a nice touch and has no chance of de wiring as the tram won't travel fast enough!
As a Melbournian who grew up using these trams, Congratulations for preserving our MMTB Tram history. [the biggest tram service on Earth 2023].
I agree mate. It's a great refurb
Thanks for posting The restored tram looks great.
It's awesome mate. Thanks for looking
They have done a wonderful restoration job 🙂
And it's a great tram to drive as well!
What a great restoration and a great video of it! It does my heart good to see something like this that professionally preserves and updates a piece of rail transit history. And it's nice to see proper trolley poles in use. But I'm still not used to seeing flashing turn signals on a streetcar. It makes sense, I know, but it is still a bit amusing. Cheers from Wisconsin!
It's an amazing refurbishment! While it's not 100% traditional which upsets some people, it sets a pretty high bar!
Super video, super restored tram 👍🏻
Yes super restoration mate
Done a absolute superb job on the Restoration the tram looks absolutely beautiful.
Yes mate! Up close it's brilliant
Awesome
Thanks mate 😀😀
852 is looking pretty good "as is". Did they let you have a drive Brenden?
Mate I took 881 for a spin. I'm qualified and probably one of a handful in NZ that can drive a vigilance tram. 852 has been undercover for many years. I'd it's looked after it will still look good.
interesting very good
It was a very interesting interview and great to take for a drive as well
I miss the green😢 it looked so original, but exactly why did they paint it?
Because the tram now resides in Auckland and these are these Auckland Tramways traditional colours
Fair enough@@Schony747
Amazing! What editing software do you use
Corel Videostudio. It's well priced and easy to use.
