    Nice video. i travel every week for work and I always think that, in the event of an emergency, my ultimate goal will be to get home to my wife. So I always carry a small, slim travel road atlas of the entire country with me. If my phone dies, I can navigate home with a good old-fashioned paper map!

    As a seasoned traveller and experienced hiker & camper I see a lot of overlap. I love the Adventure Med Kits but often find that I have to "customize" my kits and suggest people do the same. They're great for base kits, but there are lots of great companies out there that have smaller First Aid Kits (made from Dyneema which is incredibly lightweight, smaller and water proof/resistant). I have a small red one in my EDC at all times w/ bandaids, triple antibiotic ointment, some gauze and assorted tylenol/dramamine/etc. Takes up less room and is just what I need. Make yours custom to your needs. Mine fits perfectly in the day sling I bring on trips w/ the rest of my EDC. Travel Safe!

      Dave, I agree on the overlap between traveling & adventure. I also appreciate the comment about customizing the medical kits. I’ll check out the Dyneema kits…thanks for the info!

    Great tips! I carry a butane lighter (like a Bic) which TSA allows. It's great for cutting synthetic cord because it seals the ends against unraveling. Also good for sterilizing a needle before digging out a splinter. A hot needle will also relieve painful pressure from blood under a fingernail after smashing the finger.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing your information and experience. There are two cutting tools that "always" fly with me in my under-seat bag. First, in my toiletries bag is a large toenail clipper. When brand new they are very sharp and can cut a number of small items. And it has hygiene uses so has never been questioned. I find it more useful overall than the smaller nail clippers intended for fingernails. The second rides in my first aid kit and that is a pair of trauma shears (aka EMT shears). There are many available from big box stores (as well as "that huge online retailer"). Look for shears that are 5 inches overall (TSA length limit for "tools" is 6 inches). I've never been questioned on those either because the tips are rounded and it is with my first aid supplies. Also, I don't smoke but I always have a small disposable lighter in my bag (like a Mini BIC). It is useful for a number of things (just don't use it on the plane).

    • @PrepHERedness
      @PrepHERedness  8 місяців тому +5

      Thanks for watching and sharing your ideas. Toe nail clippers are brilliant. I have fingernail clippers about half the time in my toilet bag, but adding a larger set makes more sense.
      Someone else mentioned shears and I thought it was brilliant. I honestly didn’t realize you could carry on scissors. It will definitely be an add! Thanks for the trauma shear idea.
      And I can’t believe my lighter wasn’t in my bag! Like you, I don’t smoke, but I used to pack one…so thanks for reminding me to add it again. 😁

  • @GoodPhotos

    Great ideas. A Swiss Army Knife 'Jetsetter' is TSA approved tiny multi-tool that has no blade and would offer you a decent pair of scissors to make that 550 cord much more manageable? Takes up nearly no space at all and also gives you a good pair of tweezers, a small phillips driver and a bottle opener. (A toothpick too, but that's nasty and a firefly ferro rod is a better option in that slot.)

      @@PrepHERedness My pleasure. My comments are meant only to make people aware that, while they may be following TSA posted guidelines, that it is still possible to run into an agent that uses their own judgement to determine how those guidelines apply. I will still carry my trauma kit, I will just not have my favorite shears in the kit. On one flight, I went through TSA checkpoint with shoes on, belt on, pocket contents in my hat in the tub. The next airport was an international gate to domestic gate, I literally walked off the plane, to the next gate TSA checkpoint. At this checkpoint, shoes and belt had to come off, pockets contents had to be inside my carry one, scanned, patted down and pulled aside for extra scrutiny of my bags. Such is flight.

    @PrepHERedness Your stated goal was "to block out the world". That goal precludes awareness.
    I share an office with someone who wears earbuds and drums his fingers. He is completely oblivious. Mostly, he is using the earbuds in silence, but still oblivious. Obviously, drumming your fingers is a bad habit, but it obnoxious. His fix is for me to get earbuds, so I won't hear his drumming. My solution? Remove a finger when he makes obnixious drumming sounds.
    Your are free to make whatever decisions, right up to where your choices intrude on my freedom. As part of your choices, if your decision to check out on the world results in you getting hit by a car, so be it. You made your choice. If you don't hear the horn, Darwin will win. And I am all for this.
    It is impossible to deprive yourself of one of your senses, yet still be "aware" using that sense.

      A prepper is someone who prepares for emergency situations. EDC is an every day carry kit. It might be a good idea for you to start watching "prepper" videos so you too can be prepared. People might not be able to take care of you in an emergency situation even though you might be expecting them to. I recommend a 72 hour emergency kit to start with, along with a Hospital go bag (an overnight bag ready in case you have appendicitis or something else), and a bug out bag (in case of house/apartment fire) for when you have seconds to escape. Now you know more and can decide if you want to take responsibility for your own well being or rely on the general public who might not be prepared either.
