Thanks for this post. I'm flying to Mangalore from overseas in July 13. It'll be during the monsoon season so I'm not at all looking forward to that. I recently had a very bad experience in a storm over Jaipur before we were diverted onto Delhi.
The airport is completely safe and has been operating since 1951. It had been fully refurbished with all required safety standards, around the time that unfortunate crash happened. The Mangalore airport has 2 runways, a 5300 feet (1615 mts) asphalt runway and a 8030 feet (2450 mts) concrete runway! A Boeing 737 requires only around 5000-6000 feet (1530-1830 mts) to make a safe and normal landing. So the runway length is more than sufficient for Boeing 737s. They land in Mangalore all the time. The Air India Express 812 pilots chose to land on the longer 8030 feet long runway but ONLY MADE TOUCHDOWN AFTER 5200 FEET (1600 MTS) FROM THE START OF THE RUNWAY, leaving them only about 2830 feet (850 mts) to make a landing which is much less than the minimum required length of 5000 feet (1530 mts). The crash happened due to Pilot error and pilot error alone. It was quite unfortunate that they decided to go through with the landing despite overshooting it. They should've just aborted the landing and made another attempt at landing without overshooting the runway. RIP to all the fatalities in that crash.
Helloo, you are not supposed to switch on your mobiles while landing and take Off!!. And every one is appreciating This?!. Sorry it's how we have accidents. sorry😣
Surendra Manohar I am a pilot Yes what you said is absolutely right But only calls and internet makes a frequency interuption in the cockpit. Using camera does no harm

😱😱😱
Its obvious they should stop using Boeings and Airbus aircraft at that airport. Do they want another Air India Express case?
It is completely safe to use the jets over there the runway is long enough. the IX crash was due to pilot error and not the airplanes' fault.
