- We've got another great Gibson Les Paul Special for you today, a double cut Cherry model from 1959! This one is all rock and roll in looks and sound, and came from a great Seattle home. Today we've got Aaron Hiebert on the demo with the excellent 1961 Epiphone EA-12RVT Futura we have in the shop at the moment!

A Cherry Red Gibson Les Paul Special was my first ever electric guitar! My brother and I got it as a Christmas gift in 1965. My Dad bought the guitar, strap, cord, Alligator Dura-Bilt case, and a Single 12" Silvertone Amp for $100! The guitar in the video is an early '59, as was mine. Later in '59 and through the end of production of this model in 1960 the neck pickup was moved away from the end of the fretboard. Gibson discovered the inherent weakness of removing that much wood from the neck tenon.

Dudes I own a 1961 Gibson Les Paul jr and a late 50s double cut special would finish me on wanting another guitar. I'd sell several amps and guitars to fund one. I like the ones that were broken and fixed. My 61 jr had a headstock repair done and nos tuners put on that look like they went through a fire and its killer. This special in the video is a got damn monster!
This guy can play. I’d make him the full time demo guy.

Sounds a bit brighter than the Special from yesterday that was a single cut. Snappier and spankier too, which could be better in a band mix since P90's are never too thin, like so many single bridge pickups can be.
