TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.

I used to travel to Holland with my family a lot back in the 70s, when I was young and my older brother was into good music. We were hunting for Focus albums in Boudisque in Amsterdam (now sadly closed) and Catapult's "Seven Eleven" was playing in the store. We both loved it and asked the staff what they were playing - we bought a (vinyl) copy immediately. By far their greatest song which I still love and play to this day along with some other masterpieces they created. They sounded a bit like the Dutch version of Nazareth.
@Russpng Cool story,Russpng! Actually Catapult was seen as the Dutch version of (The) SWEET...in an interview they gave on Dutch radio,they admitted they were all huge SWEET fans. Me,as a Dutchie,and huge SWEET-fan since 1972,was very pleased,when Catapult arrived on the pop scene,back in March 1974,with their first single `Hit the Big Time`,next the killer-glam rockers `Let Your Hair Hang Down`--`Teeny Bopper Band`--`Seven Eleven` & `The Stealer`!! Catapult should`ve been bigger,IMHO,but at least they are on my turntable/cd-player to this very day! Catapult lasted until December 1979... Do you perhaps own their album? Those were the days,when Glam Rock ruled the airwaves! 🤩

Hoe meer ik nummers van Catapult en hun latere projecten met andere bandnamen beluister, hoe meer ik er achter kom dat het best een ambacht is om jarenlang een hitmachine te kunnen zijn. Je moet ten eerste je instrument dan wel zang goed kunnen beheersen, zelf iets weten van opnametechnieken, verstand hebben van productie, maar bovenal: zelf liedjes kunnen schrijven die enerzijds perfect de heersende muzikale smaak aanvoelen en anderzijds nog jaren lang in de hoofden van luisteraars blijven zitten. En dat blijft toch wel de grootste verdienste van deze mannen: zij beheersten dat hele proces helemaal zelf. Let wel: ik ben hiernaast ook een groot liefhebber van complexe muziek als Gentle Giant en Van der Graaf Generator, maar muzikanten als Catapult hebben me geleerd ook het ambacht van hitmuzikanten te waarderen.

Een fijn vrolijk nummer. Ik woonde in de Maassluisstraat in Amsterdam-West, en dit loedje kwam net na hun hits. Echt een najaarsnummer... Maar ik luisterde het in de vroegste lente van mijn leven!

Tja...je moet toegeven, ze konden net zo snel van imago wisselen als Bowie, en met evenveel gevoel voor de melodie die erbij paste. Denk ook aan hun andere incarnaties The Surfers (het studiowerk achter de playback-act in dit geval) en The Monotones, en niet te vergeten Rubberen Robbie...
