Tesla has a lot of catch up to do in driverless miles, says former Tesla executive

- Jon McNeill, DVX Ventures CEO and former Tesla executive, joins 'Squawk on the Street' to discuss McNeill's review of Tesla's robotaxi presentation, the data Tesla has from its vehicles on the road, and why Tesla is lagging behind competitors in driverless miles.
This guy's a clown.
You can tell this guy works for GM 😂😂
Didn't GM fire everyone at Cruise last year, a total do-over? These people are clowns.
But he was at Tesla to be fair and they know how to hire…
@@brandonderrick006 Meh, meaningless. He had nothing to do with engineering. The guy who started Lucid came from Tesla too, they're barely still alive. Most of the top people working on the Apple car came from Tesla. That whole team has been let go.
GM is not a competitor to Tesla.
Aren't they tho? GM produces a wide range of products, with an expanding range of EV alternatives, some aT relatively low (comparatively) price points.
Lol at GM. How many people are GM gonna run over this week
Maybe waymo but cruise is a total joke.
I guess this is why he is the "former" executive.
My man said Cruise is ahead of Tesla lmfao 😂😂😂😂
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well, he does work for GM (Board of Directors), so it makes sense that he would say that.
@@JohnPMiller yeah I know it’s part of the way they do things on tv. Bring someone on to promote what ever company they work for, in this case being one of their advertisers. But it’s always funny to laugh at people who either don’t know what they are talking about or are completely lying. So yeah lol
If a driver does nothing, its the same as driverless...Tesla beats by millions !!
In what world are driverless miles more useful for training? Man is really trying to say labeled data has *LESS* information than unlabeled data.
Driverless in a geofenced area is not necessarily better than supervised driverless. Also, what is the cost of geofenced driverless compared to free supervised?? These guys are master at playing with facts!
GM needs to sell the cruise and pay down debt...
Tesla has millions in the fleet with over 15 years of data collection. And this clown is talking about Tesla catching up smh
One of the most garbage presentations from the smartest person
garbage and smartest doesnt go together. Garbage sounds more like it.
Tesla has more data by far. Just because those miles are “supervised” doesn’t mean they don’t count for AI training. GM is a joke.
You know he has an agenda when he mentioned cruise
People think that all this data is accumulated somehow forever...the old data is probably trash...the only advantage they have is the ability to gather a lot of fresh data quickly, but they need to do something smart with it as well. It's not just about quantity.
What's a joke is Elon credibility on FSD. Even Elon laughs at his optimistic time tables.
People _will_ do super gross and illegal things in your cab with no witnesses and no driver in a position of authority driving to do something about it.
They will use them for rolling drug dens, have needles a and used condoms, bodily fluids on seats and floors, meth labs and brothel / Grinder/Tinder hook up spaces that you will put your children into, for transport? Nope.
It's important to note that his expertise is in sales, not in technology or AI. He also left the team in 2018 so he has no idea what is going on within the company as an insider. Also, the 13 miles per intervention is from 1 third-party and another group rated it between 72-130. That is a big difference, so I wouldn't trust any of this data.
Lots and lots of Tesla bag holders in this comment section. 😂😂😂
💯%
The industry really needs to define what an “intervention” is: what it is, what it isn’t, what counts as an intervention versus a slight inconvenience. If you drive a Tesla on FSD, you might not like the car’s lane choice so you’ll take over. Or, the car isn’t traveling fast enough for the person behind the wheel. Would the car get you to point A to point B reliably and safely should be the criteria. If I intervene because I want the car to go faster, is that really an intervention? How about when I take over in order to park the car in the garage? I have to “intervene” during FSD in this case. Does the scenario count? If so, that happens every time I pull up to my garage and it would skew the data.
Yeah it's stupid. If I interrupt the drive because I decide I want to stop for a sandwich, it's counted like I took over because of something dangerous.
So much mis information
Jeeez, so many words and so useless and wrong information
This made 0 sense. Complete BS from that dude on driverless miles by Waymo covering tail cases -- TSLA way more cornercases. .
Tesla needed to show a robotaxi with lidar READY TO GO...and grow from that into camera only. So foolish to let your competitors gain experience with the real thing, while they beat their head on a 10 year problem.
Elon is a con artist. 😂😂😂😢😢😢
Lol. They're all delusional.
I am not a fan of Elon Musk. But I feel that neither the host nor the guest is being truthful. FSD and Waymo can't be compared. FSD does not use radar, but Waymo does. So, Elon Musk's FSD is more difficult to be made ready for general use, but FSD if successful will make a lot of money for a lot Tesla owners. Waymo's technology can be deployed only for specialized vehicles equipped with radar. The guest obviously has an ulterior motive to promote Waymo.
Yeah, it isn't really apples to apples here. Waymo and Cruise costs hundreds of thousands of dollars per vehicle and can only run and specific routes in specific cities.
Waymo and Cruise also pay people to be ready to taken over remotely if needed.
And there in lies the problem. "IF" is a huge variable. If Tesla can solve this it will be huge, if they can't they will be spinning their wheels for how much longer?
@@kintaro005 I am not a fan of Elon. So, I would say it would take at least 5 years.
Lidar. That's the difference
2:09 simply not true. Waymo does not count human remote interventions as an intervention.
Waymo is supervised. This guy has no idea how much intervention incurs.
that's why he's X-exec, 90% of executive guy are not technical and likely don't know data or AI. Waymo, cruise, etc. are way behind and I could say at least 10 yrs. collecting data does not have to be all inclusive driverless.
Never burn bridges
A lot of facts were left out, biased commentary.
Rubbish! Waymo has to have a Geofence along with Cruise. I drive my Tesla on FSD everyday, no Geofencing! The car always knows where it is. This dude is misleading intentionally.
What does he know lol
I can get that time back by WFH
Waymo has a lot to catch up to in terms of manufacturing 😂😂😂
Zero driverless miles? Are you kidding me?
Lol did you think Tesla was a leader? They're 10 years behind.
@@ketheric You don't have a clue how any of this works, do you? Please, tell me how Waymo leads; include the technology.
I have never heard of driverless Teslas out in the real world. Supervised FSD is not driverless.
@@kintaro005 That is just your ignorance talking, seasoned with a liberal dose of semantics. Vehicles equipped with Tesla's SFSD have logged 100's of millions of miles (if not billions by now) of operation unaided by human hands; and they have done so on all types of roadways and in all kinds of traffic. Waymo has several magnitudes less of these miles, and they are all driven in the same locale, over, and over, and over again. Take the Waymo off of their familiar little playgrounds and it will not operate.
Misleading comment. If Tesla wants to implement in a certain region , it will turn on fast . The areas they expand to will be much faster than waymo. Reason they are not doing it because they want to solve general autonomy. For waymo and cruise they are not solving general autonomy.
wrong
Wymo and cruise are only available a certain area and low speed while robocab will be available everywhere!
Did you even hear Elon say California and Texas? When will it hit everywhere?
@@kintaro005he was talking about FSD fully not supervised no more in 2025 for Texas and California only.
Sure, lets hear from sour grapes working for a competitor.
Fyi this comment is misleading..waymo and cruise miles are not in real life situations BUT in very defined areas...
He wasn't prepaid for this follow up obviously 2:45 lol
Hahahaha😂😂😂
