Allen, love your videos, they have been so helpful to me-and I’ve been many candles for nearly 30 years! I took a course called The Wholesale way (highly recommend) and learned a lot of good tips on getting products into stores. Probably the biggest tip was to mail samples to prospective buyers with a handwritten note. No one does this, and it’s such a great technique and it saves a lot of awkwardness on both ends. They can peruse your products, you can follow up later, And if you are on Faire or another whole sailing website, you provide your ordering information there as well. Just wanted to provide this tip since you have been so helpful to all of us! ❤
You got this Allen! Your heart shines brighter than the fears and doubts. You’re very brave to get out of your comfort zone and thats what sets you apart. We’re all behind you!
I think you are just as good or better than other small candle business owners. You bring something that the others do not. Relatability and vulnerability. Thanks for that! I can't wait to see your progress Allen.
I understand everything you said. My business is 2 and half years. I’m outgoing in person but my weakness is my online presence is there but not strong. I hope you find the courage to work past the cold feet. I’m not as far along as you. I kind of paused producing for a while because the market is super saturated. I live in south Florida and love it here. My network isn’t large here because I’m from Atlanta.
Thank you so much! I am just getting started, and so far I LOVE making the candles, but as I get closer, I am DREADING the selling part! But you will be great! Your products will sell themselves!
Wishing you the best!!! Take the wheel.. do it as you truly deserve for all your lovely candles to be shared by your community and the world!! Your candles are beautiful!!! Can’t wait for more contents as this one and the progress!!!! ❤
I can imagine a store saying no if they already carry candles from another maker, but if they don't carry candles, I'm sure they would be amenable to saying yes, I'm very impressed with your energy and enthusiasm. I'm sure you'll do just fine.
Allen you are absolutely amazing at what you do! I say go for it and you have encouraged me to do the same for 2025! Thank you for sharing your story and your experience with us 😊
I got my first wholesale order from being at a farmers market. And then hopefully a second one soon I already had candles on me I was meeting a friend at a coffee shop and the store next to it I went in and showed my candles. She said to email her my line and price sheet which I did have not heard back yet
ALLEN! I am right there with you!! I am very much a people person and I know my products are excellent, but I too fear rejection. I believe the more we get ourselves out there, we will get more comfortable with the process. Sending you a “high five” and know that WE’VE got this!!!
You are awesome! I haven't even made it to baby steps yet, but feel all of that already, lol! Can't wait to watch and learn from the path you're lighting! Rawr! Thank you!!! ❤
Hi! You can email the stores first with a short introduction, and a link to your website and your youtube channel. They might like that you have a online presence and can advertise their store. Just ask them when would be a good time to stop by their store to show them your products. Always be yourself and don't worry about people who don't support your community. You wouldn't want to be part of their store anyways. It would be so much easier if you would live in NYC. I could tell you lots of places and artisan markets you could sell your candles. Good luck!
You will do very well!! You have an amazing presence and knowledge that is wonderful to watch! Go get 'em Allan, you can do it! You know the saying "fake it til you make it"? That statement has a LOT of truth to it!! Use it. Ask me how I know. I use to be the kid who everyone thought i didnt have a tongue in my head. 😂
Sorry had to comment again. I’m so glad you decided to post this. I’m fairly outgoing but terrified of talking on my social media. That is so unnatural to me. Very interesting. What is my problem lol
You’ve got this, Brandy! You’re just being your own worst critic right now. I promise you that it is not as bad as you think. If you do anything for awhile, it feels natural.
Use your thoughts to imagine them saying YES 🎉, not no. Thoughts…Feelings…Actions…Results!! 😊 What does it feel like to think they DO love your candles and they can’t keep them in stock?
Hahaha!! Well in all fairness, these patients undergo usually many hours of surgery but I am also all for more doctors gifting things like artisanal candles-especially if a patient has gone through a lot of treatment for something.
Ok serous time. You sell a good amount of candles. How in the heck are you not good at marketing? You’re obviously doing something right in the marketing world my friend. My first vendor event this Friday. Terrified
I think you're amazing. Those who don't want to work with you are stupid. They don't know what they're missing. ❤❤If I were them, I would have agreed to cooperate.❤❤ I was wondering something. Have you tried making candle vessel with gypsum powder instead of cement powder? What do you think is best?
Allen, Listen, if this makes any bit of help: Boutiques and businesses can't make money unless they have a product to sell. Remember the 3 pillars of a luxury product as well: Quality (handmade), Rarity (not mass produced) and unique (I think you got that down). I recently went into a store on the sunset strip where some of the richest people go and had a guy BEGGING me to give him candles after I told him what I was planning. The brand I was making was so new I didn't even have a name and logo yet. When I did some keystone pricing, he ended up taking my candles on consignment and said I needed to almost double my prices for his clientele because if it's too inexpensive they will think it sucks. Value is perceived differently. Partner with the right stores and when you feel nervous remember that you have a product they need to sell to make money since they themselves don't make products. Do a few consignment deals and the stores don't even have to buy them until they are sold. Make sure to do a consignment agreement with a list of what candles they have and what they are pricing them at. You take half. So if a $40 candle ends up being $80 at their store you just made a very healthy margin! Lastly; life begins at the edge of your comfort zone. Push yourself to do the thing that makes you nervous. what's on the other side of it is amazing.
Clayton, wow thank you so much for taking the time to share this valuable advice! I am grateful to have you here. I will absolutely be considering the idea of consignment and starting Earthglow’s wholesale this way so that it can be a win-win for stores.
@@earthglow glad to be of help! Just remember if you start to feel nervous about approaching a store, tell yourself that they need you not the other way around. They don't know you exist and that's why you're there. Once you have a few interactions with a few business owners you'll realize they're always happy to hear about other new products they weren't even aware existed. And worst case scenario they may point you at some other businesses that may be more appropriate if they don't feel like it's a good match
Do you think it would be a bad idea to offer them something like consignment with a 50/50 profit split with a minimum required retail amount, where I’d leave some candles for a few months and email them every month inquiring the count they sold and then at the end of, say, 3 months if they haven’t sold any that I’d come and pick them up (or if they have sold a lot, I’d restock)?
