Their appearances changed, actually. Ango used a sedative containing some of Teruko's blood and some chemicals. In the AU, it's a successful but sealed-away experiment - to change age. Atsushi and Akutagawa can change to 15 years old and back only once in their lifetime with the sedative in their blood.
My explanation is sloppy, I apologize ;-; But I guess you'll get a more detailed explanation sooner or later when I actually write the story ;-;
