the audience is the most important person to judge. They don't need to be able to sing to say what they like or don't like. Regardless you don't need to be a great singer to recognize oversinging just like you don't need to be able to play guitar to recognize when someone is over playing a solo to the detriment of a song. Mind you I'm NOT saying he is bad by any stretch of the imagination. But a lay person is perfectly in their right to say why they dislike a singer's style and overdoing runs is a common issue.

Normally I would find so much ornamentation to muck up the melody. But he is so technically adept and thoughtful musically, he makes it work. His runs are so precise, he obviously knows exactly where he wants to end up before he even starts. Check out his duets with Shoshana Bean (they are huge admirers of each other and clearly love singing together). They both sing effortlessly and have mind boggling control.

There are probably a lot of reasons but there are a few that I think explains some of it. 1. He is a great singer for sure, but part of being in the music industry is making music which I don't think he's made much of yet. 2. His exposure is probably low and he hasn't been very relevant for very long (part of that is the music thing) 3. His actual voice. I haven't heard everything he's ever done but for how vocally talented he is, he doesn't know when to riff and run and to not. Virtually every word he sings he's running to the next bus stop for a road trip lol. It's like the guy who has great hops and dunks very well but does it too much. The amount he does it makes me thinks he lacks the control to sing in a steady tone almost (not saying he can't). I understand that's his style but it doesn't take a musical genius to know that there is such thing as too much. He'll learn though

Great rendition and i love it and i love runs but there were a few to many. I feel like runs are great but sometimes if even more difficult not to use them depending on the song. They added a lot of depth to already amazing song and he executed them perfectly, but may save them for emphasis on a particular part as opposed to using then for every line...but again wonderful rendition, still probably the best cover of this song ive heard
