Y'all might know this, but Kendrick said in an interview (can't remember with whom), that he writes thousands of lyrics that never see the light of day, because he's hardly ever satisfied with his work. I'm not a rapper, but a classical musician, and even I can't help but empathize with that. It's not just lyrics, flow, and rhythm, but also tonality, emphasis, and delivering a message.
I only regret that musicians in my field can be, for a lack of better term, snobby about their own style and look down on others. There is so much artistry out there that cannot and should not be overlooked. We're all trying to perfect our craft, become more versatile musicians, and show that we're worthy of respect. Kendrick personifies every part of that.
It reminds me a lot of what I've read about Prince. He was prolific and extraordinarily driven (he was programming synthesizers when that was a complex and niche technology), but only released work that met his exacting standards.

This was an even battle that lead to a kdot victory. I think that's a bit of an overstatement people are hyping Kendrick's victory over Drake because he spent 3 weeks making pre-recorded tracks. Normally in a beef you make tracks in real time to rebuttal what the other person says to you. Everything Kendrick drop was pre-recorded which is why nothing in it addressed what Drake put in his tracks and why there was only one real overall narrative he was able to push.

Kendrick the epitome of the good kid from the mad city. I am similar. I have always been referred to as the "smart cousin". Its not that I WASN'T doing dirt, I was just moving smart and treated everyone with the respect that was due. Having the balls to put in work but also the brain and heart to be respectful leads to you being respected. Dudes will stop you from doing work and do it for you because they see you as something else, something different. Something worth fighting for, so that something can make it out and maybe speak for them and tell their stories. The struggle you share between your team further cements what you guys are willing to do for one another and at a certain point you become like brothers. I have a few people back home I'd be willing to lay it all on the line for because they have done the same for me.
