1. What kind of application is it? Are we using microservices?
2. What type of data you have? How many times does it get changed?
3. Do you also want your DNS to be migrated to cloud?
4. What type of caching is used?
List of questions created as per category:
1. Objectives and Constraints
- Why do you want to move this app to the Cloud? (DC exit, latency problem, performance issue, using niche services/managed services to improve HA)
- What are the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) requirements? (max downtime, data loss, cost constraints)
- Application and Infrastructure
2. How much of code change are you okay with? (complete re-dev, minor configuration changes, no changes at all)
- What load balancer are you using?
- What Operating System (OS) is there on the machines?
- What application server is running? (version, etc.)
- What Database (DB) are you using?
- Is the application stateful or stateless?
- Public-Facing Website and Security
3. How's the spread of your customers?
- Are you using any Web Application Firewall (WAF) solution?
- Performance and Scalability
4. What is the current sizing of the servers?
- How is the workload variation? (how much variation? is there any pattern?)
- Logging and Monitoring
5. Where do you keep the logs? (OS, application, DB logs)
- What is the log retention policy?
- How is the application monitored? What are your monitoring requirements?
6. Backup and Disaster Recovery
- What is the current backup strategy?

1. Why do you want move this app on Cloud?
2. Give me overview of your application. Demo is the best thing.
3. Please provide information about techstack, ports and protocols been used.
4. How do you perform authentication and authorisation.
5. Total and concurrent number of users.
6. DB details and privileges for db users.
7. Is your app is internal or external facing?
8. Most important, what is current cost(hosting) of your application

I would also like to ask our customer whether the application tightly coupled or monolithic or a microservice. If these coupled applications and are having MQ as a transport protocol for a synchronous call or for async!

As there is no guarantee to pass the exam with a certain set of questions because questions can be changed at any point in time as AWS is having 1000s of questions and it's tough to predict which questions will be part of our exam. Hence go through as many questions as possible before appearing for any certification exam.

To me, right architecture always started with right questions. I have been struggling on getting right information from the clients when I was being asked to propose an architecture for the client.
The questions listed in the video aren't just useful in an interview, but they are also very useful in real life scenario (in the case of consulting a client). A lot of courses of AWS Solution Architect on the market are focusing on helping you to pass the exam but not really helpful in helping us to be a good AWS Solution Architect. I hope there are more content like this to help people like me to be more confident when talking to clients.
Having said that, I believe there are more questions we can ask (e.g. security requirement, data residency) to understand the AS-IS scenario of the client in real life before we jump right into the solution. These questions are a good starting point.

1. What is current Devops practices are you following?
2. What is the CI/CD model in your present environment?

Can you please give a try for this ->Know how to identify abandoned infra. -AWS infra clean-up,its more scheduled jobs and then its a mix of API's and CLI's . That is house-cleaning activites /house-keeping activities and cost optimization. Possible we can talk, Or you try to put a video, on this. I know you love to do this.

Hi Sir, awsome video....I am new to cloud solution....but once I got to know that for hosting dynamic website the object like video, audio and images are stored in S3 and computation, appserver only used in EC2 machines in production...is it?.....if so kindly provide the videos tutorial to show how to perform this like accessing object from S3 into your website hosted in EC2....thanks in advance 🙂

Is it not worth asking how they want users to be authenticated? through on prem AD or solely IAM?
I was asked for that in an Interview, more specifically my experience using federated users and SSO (cognito) even though I have worked with cognito i did not understand the goddamed question... I do know
How is the Migration wants to happen.....(i.e) live migration or else the migration will require any downtime that's Ok?
I think its one of the questions may ask......

I'm fresher final year engineering student I'm doing linux administrator course and after that what should i do aws solution architect or aws sysops ?? As being a fresher what should i do should ?

I have 18+ experience few days back i attended an interview in CTS, they asked same question from this video. I answered in the same way explained in video. But on Highlevel. Understand current , reason for moving to cloud, intranet or internet, what kind of security,
but the interviewer was not satisfied. I told them we need to come up with right questions.
and they asked me strategy they were expecting 6 Rs .
Finally they decided not to go with me, be cause i did not give them exact terminology they are expecting. Like 6Rs etc.
They were interested to know my experience.
