- I'm back!!! After spilling tea on my early 2015 Macbook Pro (RIP), I was forced to get a brand new Macbook. Lucky for me, the new Macbook Air with M2 Chip was coming out, so I just had to jump on. This time I will be spilling all the tea on the new Macbook Air 2022 (figuratively speaking of course)! same here! I had hard time to pick color but glad I end up ordered my mine Starlight base model, i just upgrade the SSD to 512GB since i’ll be using only for streaming, email and words. I was wondering if I did the right thing, most people upgrade the unified memory instead of SSD

Teri this is a wonderful unboxing video what a beautiful MacBook Air laptop you have! I got the Macbook Pro M2 in midnight and I love the color I got a black and white marble case for it but only use the top part of the case because the bottom, half of the case made my ports inaccessible especially when using my USB C to USB adapter.
Good job. I went from a 15" mid 2015 MBP to a 16" M1-PRO MBP with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The jump in performance was so huge any nits about speed were moot. I have used an M1 MacBook Air and it too was a huge jump in performance. I predict you'll really enjoy the new machine.
If you make use of iCloud, DropBox and an external SSD, you will be able to live with the 256GB SSD. I struggled with it for 4 years before installing a 1TB SSD in my 2015. That hasn't been possible on any MBP since the mid 2015. Not going to at least 512 may be the one thing you may regret.
You can use an external SSD to make TimeLine backups. Once it's set up, just plug it in at night. It will automatically back everything up while you sleep. Eject the SSD the next morning. Repeat. It works a treat. After sending my 2021 M1-PRO to Apple, they wiped it as part of their (failed) troubleshooting and sent it back. Using my TimeLIne backup it was back ready to go in 45 minutes.

I was thinking of getting the midnight color one, but with it being finger prints prone, that made me decide to go towards the starlight color. Which looks really nice.
Who care most people go for MacBook Air M1 and some people go for MacBook Pro and some people getting iMac
Just use tissue and wipe it. LOL. It's not like you don't clean your white sneakers...

Starlight is beautiful, I just think it looks silver or gold, like previous macbooks... midnight is worth the fingerprints. Good thing is if you are clean, you wash your hands or sanitize them and you really don't leave any marks. You can also see the fingerprints in midnight in order to be aware of where to clean. With silver or starlight you kinda neglect cleaning it as often and it would become a nasty device, lol.

Wow that's crazy cause I also have an early 2015 MacBook pro that's lasted 7 years and am now finally getting a Macbook Air M2!!! Have you had any issues with it heating up while editing? I'm just very concerned about it not having a fan...
I haven't! I'm currently editing and it's barely warm ☺ Somehow I prefer not having a fan! It's so quiet, I no longer have to worry about waiting to do a voiceover if the fan was going on my old Pro!

That’s so funny! I’m also making the EXACT same jump from the early 2015 pro to the MacBook Air. So this was really helpful!! Thanks for showing the starlight, I think this is the color I’m going to go with as well. I know midnight is the new trendy color, but I’m not the gentlest with my laptops and those scratches are going to age it too fast for me😅.
Also if it makes you feel any better about the tea incident, the 2015 pro is now obsolete this year meaning it’s no longer supported or will receive any security updates… best to move on to a new one now.

@@peachyspalace From my understanding, Apple continues to offer two years of security updates after the software updates stop. I also have the early 2015 version. My Macbook Pro still works fairly well, except the battery life is not good anymore, and several of my keyboard keys quit working after I spilled coffee on the keyboard a few years ago. I was going to upgrade to the Macbook Air also, but I was able to get a similarly priced Macbook Pro M1 for about the same price.

Great video! You have me excited to receive mine, but alas I wont be getting in until August 9. I'm also ugrading from a mid-2015 MBP, but I am holding on to my 2015 MBP though for the times when I might need to run legacy apps or boot camp. For the M2, I went with midnight, but I agree that the starlight looks really great! Mine is taking a while because I spec'd it up to the maximum available. With the education discount and gift card I'll be able to get Applecare pretty much for free later. Enjoy your new machine and good luck with the channel!
That’s a good plan!! I wouldn’t of done the upgrade had I not killed my MBP ☹️ But it was running slower in some aspects so you’ll definitely be happy with the M2 considering you upgraded everything!! Mine arrived a few days early, hope yours does too 🙏🏼

Thank you for the video. I want to get the Starlight color. This will be my 1st Macbook. I have always used Window's laptops. The only thing I was curious about was the storage and what would be good for me.
It depends what you plan to use it for! If it's for casual use, no super large files, you'd be fine with the lowest 256GB one. If you plan to do a lot on it, store large files on it, then maybe go for a larger storage if you can. I didn't really want to pay the apple prices for storage so I went with 256GB but that runs out quick for me. I have multiple external hard drives / SSDs, and that works and is much cheaper but if I had the money for it I probably would have gone bigger but then every video takes up a lot of space so that’s why. It really just depends!

I recently got to see the MacBook Air M2 starlight live in a store, and that changed my opinion on the colors. Starlight is nothing like the light gold color from pictures, reviews and so on, but instead it’s more of a very clear champagne tone. I don’t know if that was because of the store’s lighting, but still the impression I had there was pretty disappointing…so I now prefer the color midnight.
I'm with you. Starlight looks silver and sometimes gold. Just like previous macbooks.

Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it ☺️ I would say it depends on what you’re doing with it. I’ll say that although it does cost more to pay for the storage up front, I somewhat regret not getting more storage (I just couldn’t justify the cost at the time…). I really don’t see a performance issue with having done 256GB but I just wish I had some more flexibility on the device rather than needing to pull out my external storage SSD/Hard-drives all the time. Then again I probably would max out the storage no matter what, but that’s just me… if you see yourself not having so much on your computer and say only using it for browsing and such, you may be fine with less RAM and less storage 🤷🏻♀️ but if you’re editing or doing a lot at once, 16gb of ram is the way to go I think

My battery was definitely slowing down too! It died so quick, I had to keep it plugged in every time I used it basically 😅 At least they both lasted us a good while 🙌🏼

Thank you so much! Either would work well I think. It depends on your desk setup aesthetic but black might be a nice combo with the Startlight laptop 🖤 But I'd go with white if your desk/aesthetic is more airy & light 🤍

I will be getting one myself. The only Macbook I have ever owned (and still do), is 2017 Macbook 12. So, regardless of what I am used to, the M2 Macbook Pro will be a giant leap, especially since this Macbook 12 is the BASESD of BASE level one they made. I Plam on getting the Air M2 in Midnight.

Does the 13" screen size let you fit two windows side by side comfortably? I need to watch lectures while taking notes.
I've never had an issue multitasking with two windows open! My old MacBook of similar screen size never gave me an issue while in school. Now I have become a bit accustomed to having an external monitor for editing, but for lectures & notes I think you'd be just fine without! :)

I got mine just four days ago when the iPhone 15 release and no I did not go to the Apple Store for it because the chances of it being packed was a fat chance and the reason why I went for an oder one because I have a enough nice stuff and don't need more
I bought a midnight and having a hard time keeping it clean. I would suggest people to avoid it although it looks attractive

Regarding the ssd problems, you'll just encounter slowdowns when directly transfering stuff from the macbook storage, it doesn't affect performance.

The M2 air has larger keys and a bigger trackpad compared to the 2015 pro. I don't think I really noticed a difference when I started using the air though, but some might! Maybe for the better?

I am thinking of getting the same model you have, but with 512 storage. I’m worried though that I’m downgrading from a 15 inch Dell laptop to the 13.6 screen. Wondering if I would lose screen space.
May take a bit of getting used to but there’s always external monitors if you need that extra space! 😌

Hello Out of curiosity why did you get an air over the pro since you had a pro before ?
Well I didn’t like how they didn’t re-design the M2 Pro, so the appeal of a MagSafe, and two USB-C ports and no Touch Bar was a draw for me. Plus I really wasn’t budgeting for a new MacBook, so I wanted to try and cut the cost a bit by getting the air and it still being the newest thing I knew I wasn’t going to have any performance issues making the jump from 2015 pro to newest Air. I also want to eventually get a more permanent setup (Mac mini, or desktop iMac, or something) when I’m more settled so I wouldn’t need a pro and that in the future ☺️

It really depends on what you're needing it for, & your budget! You'll see a difference regardless, but I will say if you're leaning towards a new pro, I would maybe go with the M1 Pro. The 14-inch has the extra ports if that's important to you! But for sure, the starlight is a stunner. Good luck with the decision process, I know it's a toughy 😵💫
I love the midnight color, I don’t mind the fingerprint thing because my favorite color is dark blue.
Do you have a case for it, if so, what size case do you recommend? I am currently between getting a 13-inch one or a 14-inch one.
Midnight is such a gorgeous colour!!
I have a leather sleeve for it (I unboxed it in a recent video: ua-cam.com/video/z_KfFrzcYjY/v-deo.html ) It’s designed for the 14” Macbook Pro, but works perfectly for the M2 Air. Since it’s a 13.6” Macbook, I’d probably stick to a 14” case to be safe but it all depends on the specific case dimensions and design!
@@TeriAdrianna Thank so much for the link to your video, it was very helpful! The dimensions in the leather case are very similar to the 13-inch case (12.44” wide) I want to purchase from Herschel. It will be a bit snug since the MacBook is 11.97” wide, but that is alright because I do not want it to move around much in my backpack when I am commuting.
Then it probably would work! Assuming those are dimensions of the space inside the case? A snug fit would probably be best though. Either way you can probably return it if it doesn't work, right? ☺️

Hi Teri, Thank you for this sharing, because i have the same macbook pro than yours and with your video we can really compare the Starlight color beside the Grey one, that it is impossible in Apple Stores because of the full electric un-natural light !!! So far it's been great! I notice a huge speed increase from my 2015 pro. I especially notice it when exporting video on Final Cut & editing in general!

@@pascalenbalithai I haven't noticed an issue! I work off an external SSD that gets a bit toasty at times (nothing major), but my laptop has never run too hot at all. Hope this helps!
