- In this video we travel to the South West corner of Leicestershire and look at the ghosts of the granite quarries and stations between Wigston Junction and Nuneaton and those of the surrounding area.
Another fascinating video!
That is so interesting right in the country I was born in Burbage. I look forward to your follow up.
Great job on this one
It's great to see a video on this. I spent a number of hours exploring this area a while back, and also went looking to see if there was anything left of the tunnel in Stoney Stanton. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the lovely comment. Do check out my other videos in the series, particularly the Leicester & Swannington which had an enormous amount of collaboration and talks of the area before the railways and a comprehensive guide to the Glenfield Tunnel!
Keep up the amazing work!!😎 You have my like and sub👍👍😀. Looking forward to more great footage.
Thanks for the sub!
Geat video which I enjoyed watching. I hope you don't mind me pointing out a couple of inaccuracies. The Nuneaton avoiding line (Midland Junction to Abbey Junction) didn't close until 1992. Also, the only remaining working quarry at Enderby by the 1970s was Warren - and it closed I believe in 1975. However, the branch wasn't 'officially' closed until 1981, even though it hadn't seen a train since the mid 70s.
Very much appreciate that Phil. Always looking for more and more data but it's difficult to come by unless you meet the right people, or I have an intensely massive library which I don't have the room for!
