Anna, your designs lend themselves beautifully to upholstery fabric, sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers. Bath accessories such as rugs and shower curtains might also work. Now that Philip has his long-awaited sailboat, Anna, you need a separate studio that is spacious and where there is no worry about possible splashes that could ruin gorgeous chateau floors. You deserve that as your next project. It will encourage and support your creative projects. Love your videos.

I'd like to add for Anna, even if you just offered yards of your printed fabric you would have a great response. For everyone who loves to sew, your printed designs created into clothing or other products would be popular. That is my suggestion. Anything you make will sell. 2024 was an exciting year at the Chateau, this year will be even more amazing!

P.S. Anna!! I am moving to France over the next year or two and want to buy some of your designs for my walls, townhome furnishings and decor, so can’t wait to see what you come up with!! (I’ll be in a small town called Montmorillon. I’m American). A la prochaine!

Architect here. I encourage you to keep the central part of the coach house OPEN - that is, a vehicle could drive in, for some reason, you could have a dinner party in that central space, the kids could run round in there - and the dog, cross breezes in summer, couches for summer while Anna works in the next room. That sort of thing -ever changing and flexible.

Agree on this 100%. After managing large estates, this is one of the most useful type of buildings to have onsite. You can change the use through the years. I always add a bathroom, a wet bar (kitchenette) and a private room but leave everything else open like a barndominium.

I agree, but see no reason why this open space wouldn't primarily be Anna's workspace. An artist studio for her needs isn't a heavy duty mancave of mechanical equippment and manually printing tests for long legnths of repeats, upholstering or painting furniture requires space (they are mainly family and don't regularly have a big extended crew or parties) so I see no reason why she should limit her ateljé to the adjacent room. Besides, she'll need a sink and counter space in her workshop which could be on the rustic side, useful also for any other uses of that space.

I love when Anna’s parents are on and her father is so encouraging to Anna and she in turn is supportive of Phillip in the same way. He is her champion as well as they try new tasks. At first it was about the renovations but over the years it is equally about the family and friendships with the workers as well. Well done you two!!!!

I love seeing any part of those 3 rooms. Waking up in such a beautiful bedroom would start my day off right. In the well appointed bathroom, I could brush my teeth while admiring the landscaping as well as enjoy a soak in the tub. In the dressing room, I would be so organized with an uncluttered space for all of the items used for so many occasions.

Anna and Phillip- This was such a special video to start the New Year for me 🌹 Thank you🌹 You and your children are adorable and taking time to “tune in” continues to bring me joy and serenity in my extremely busy life. Your channel has become my “go to” favourite of all the Chateau channels (sorry Steph!). I’m in my 79th year and this week together with my 87 y.o husband recommence physical work prepping our cottage and 13 hectare property for sale. The grounds are very beautiful but demanding and the house maintenance needs considerable attention. We have no funds for labour and the cost of materials frequently holds us back from achieving goals. However, we trust our Creator to provide and to strengthen us, and as we press on are astonished at what we are able to achieve! I’m so excited to see Anna’s studio and I’m always up for a tour of the chateau anytime! I’m sure I’m getting ahead of the game but I look at your gorgeous ottoman and wallpaper and I think how beautiful it would be if Anna had a duvet cover and sheets line with her design. I dont know the cost in transferring your designs to textile but I would love to buy a duvet , pillow or sheets in some of your stunning patterns. ❤

I think your channel has become alot more substantial and interesting since you started focusing on treating your channel as a lifestyle channel rather than a "Chateau reno" one. There are
a l o t of renovation channels focused entirely on preservation of historical chateaux, construction and building, of French historic property (from manors to farmhouses, chateaux and chapels and more) and they still attract quite different viewers.
Anna's journey taking her designer skills into interior production of textiles and paper has completely changed your channel offering something entirely unique about diy, creative interior design and artistic processes from idea to finished spaces. Add your travels in the great outdoors with exilarating views in the snow, and at sea, has given followers a whole new understanding of your family on a more personal level, that I think has meant alot to keep people invested in following. And exiting travels that inspire.
There really is a limit to how often and how many renovation vlogs and brocante hunts one can watch if one isn't retired and alone and stuck to a screen.
You're a relatively young and contemporary family and I don't think your channel should try to mainly pander to elderly Americans. Which really is the case with many others for reasons that may make sense.
In your case, it just doesn't. You're not into 18th century dress up, or romanticizing the actual past, or obsessed with royalty, that's not how you got here at all. It's your creativity and love of creating your own livingspaces, and your braving new adventures that brought you to your house.
Which sets you apart, and makes you more relatable to younger viewers and Europeans, who aren't watching for "disney or jetset fantasy", or "reality show" tv content. Nobody is following you to see how you set your table.
I think your channel has exploded in development this past year and so have you! Trust that viewers who will stick around and actively subscibe will follow suite, rather than worry about views per released vlog. The path you're on has involved a brand new start in several areas which will lead to more sustenance for yourselves, and a more sustainable channel in the long haul because of it. I really enjoy the diversity you brought to your channel!
Regarding your plans for 2025 it sounds great! I've been wondering about the coach house! I think it will make for a most smashing studio for Anna, and if you keep it simple and rustic it can also double as a flexible space for any other needs, future exibition space of Annas artwork, show room, a place to gather for festive spring and summer socializing in rooms with a very different character than the Chateau itself, perhaps bringing a bit of the outdoors in. I'd try to keep the original character of the structure and as intact and open as possible, I'm assuming it's a much more rustic space. Being a big fan of such outhouses, and orangeries, If it was my project, I'd look into ways of adding glazing to part of the roof or a back wall, to accentuate light, height, and invite the outdoors in. It's an outbuilding and a great opportunity to do that, and create a space with it's own honest architectural poetry. I'd want a "stripped down" space that didn't feel too "precious" to feel inspired to create and faff about with paint etc. And to offset the artwork materials, cloth and paper. I'd also want a really effective woodburner, and a very simple, long counter with a stainless steel deep sink. I'm being a bit specific as I used to share a good studio for ceramics, sculpture, painting. I've had several spaces and some worked less well too.
I'd look at drain systems that allow you to route the content of what is flushed out via the sink into a plastic bucket you can cover leave at your recycling/ sanitation center as more artist materials than not are just not great for the ecosystem (including F&B and Little Greenes paint residue, or any tbh). There are great draining systems like this for ceramic studios, or you can simply do two parallel sinks with one connected to sewage, the other rerouted to a container (That's another thing about us Swedes, we're vigilant about not dumping on the ecosystem and required by law nationwide as of this year to sort all trash according to materials, and no chemical substances or paint residue in public sewage systems or the "general trash" ). I'd want a rustic floor that can handle heavy weights in a space like this, open to any and all possible future use. So really heavy duty tiles, or even a polished concrete floor with optional under floor heating would be ideal (always great to heat from below when celings are high). I'd definately want a central floor drain, for easy mopping up.
I'd want a skylight or glazed doors to open up to the exterior the warm seasons. And above all for natural light. Storage for fabric and paper needs to be damp prood plastic, there's no way anything can compete with clampable plastic containers. And whilst not very pretty, the clear ones provide a full view of the contents, they're stackable and easily moved and stored on open shelving systems that can be hidden with anything, like wallpapered sliding doors or fabric. Drawers that can house things like paints and chemicals, tools dust free. I'd think about storage and worktops and combinations put on industrial lockable wheels (those are a total came changer!) so you can configurate the space you need (put two together for extra long worktop, or separate and roll away to acess more floor space)
Look at graphic arts printers studios, at texile and upholsterers workshops for tips on needed "stations" and work with your carpenter to find flexible solutions. If I were Anna, I'd want a pulley system to easily pull up long lengths of repeats to the ceiling!
And a track light system that you can connect spotlights, long downlight pendants and bright general lighting to.
Regarding saunas, they are a really great addition.
I'm not sure I'd put one in the coach house though, but I haven't seen the interior at all.
The thing with a real Nordic sauna, is you want direct access to the outside from it. Or rather, they always have a small dressing space at the entrance with shower and a Sauna inside of that. Us Scandinavians cherish a view to the outside in a country sauna, very important nomatter hpw small! Fast access to the snow, a lake, pool or an outdoor tub! It's a natural and quite spiritual experience, that has nothing to do with "saunas" you find in gyms in other countries that are built all wrong, not even close to hot enough and make us cringe. Those are just not sauna.
If you're going to go down the Sauna rabbit hole, the ONLY place to turn is to the Finns! Nobody has perfected Saunas like the Finnish, it's a way of life and a way of staying healthy and fit to a very old age, and they truly understand the necessary elements of building these. I wouldn't go with Swedish sauna ideas, alot of Swedish saunas are no better than the gym ones. Expensive fakes.
You don't want to spurge on square footage in a family sauna. It takes too much time and energy to heat it to proper temperatures, you'll end up not using it much.
Instead make sure it's built on two levels, with a higher bench to get hotter faster, it creates double amount of seating. Look at Finnish models. There's a system, and rigorous rules for these builds, which is why kits for free standing Finnish saunas in various shapes for self- assembly and ready made, shipped ones is a big industry. All over Scandinavia and the world.
I know Finns who've built sauna in their city studio flats, they take it seriously.
The exact wood used, the venting systems, the aggregate and furnace and heat resistant windows are all really important. I'm wondering if you might find a company interested in a collab, or even a Finnish voluteer who'd be interested in this project.
Anyway, I may have considered one of the gables of your barns for this instead. As ypu don't need height and might want a kind of private outside area adjacent. Unless you plan on a cold indoor plunge pool and just some elegant looking spa type deal. That's something entirely different.
Your summer plans sound thrilling too!
And Ziggy is absolutely adorable showing off why Vizslas are dubbed the ultimate "velcro dog". ❤❤❤

My friend's dad (Peter Pastore, Sr.) was one of the brave soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. He told us that many of them had no bullets or even rifles, which I find incredible. Optics and deception played a big role in this operation, as it often does in war.
He survived D-Day (and WWII), met and married a pretty French girl, and raised a lovely family here in Rhode Island, USA.
Mr. Pastore was a kind and gentle man, and a loving husband and father. RIP. 🇺🇸🇫🇷

Frightening to hear the costs of renovating the long houses, such a shame that it doesn't make sense to renovate them. Can you do anything that stops them decaying further?
