Collectors were robbed of a great doll for the Twist N' Turn Barbie. The prototype used the Steffie face, had a fringe, and the t-shirt dress was sheer over another dress 😭
Mattel aren't making the line look good, when the new fashions are like the 'Wish' version of the originals! I can see the cheapness of the fabric through the screen! xo
@@sew_gal7340 There won't be a skirt after a few plays, right! ...I'd love to think with all the extra Revenue due to the Barbie Movie, Mattel would invest that back into higher quality for Barbie products; But we know they won't xo
These 65th Anniversary Fashionista Dolls doesn't feel homages. They're more like budget dolls that just references Barbie's past for old time sake. The quality in Barbies today is very disappointing. Also wondering if you're planning do a doll history video about Kira (Barbie's first asian friend) since you did Christie. I love Kira's face mold she reminds me one of my aunts.
HA! I know! I actually got Teresa and Nikki on retail price since they were the short packs…. Barbie and Summer I got on clearance cause they were the larger number!
I wonder what the original designs for the fashionista outfits were. I can't imagine that they were that simplistic. Eta: I want 1, 2, 3, 5. Love the tribute Teresa doll.
I am older than Barbie, so i remember her early days. As a doll she was ok, but the clothes was the star, with real zippers, buttons, snaps, no plastic except for shoes. Metal jewelry rather than plastic. I abhor these new Barbies that are half plastic. Velcro is ok. But only printed details on cheap material is so dissapointing. I can make better clothes out of socks and scraps. Sigh.
even in the 90s (when I was a kid) the quality in Barbie clothes were still better. Yeah, we had plastic accessories, but we also had real zypers, buttons and even embroidery. Long time I don't buy fashionistas and I'm selling some of them, I'm focusing on older Barbie dolls and I'm always mesmerized with the amount of detail and quality on those dolls.
I agree, the clothes are just not what they were when i was a kid. I was telling a coworker about the Barbie Fashion Avenue line from the 90s. It was so chic! looked right out of vogue!
Glad you mentioned Mh dolls I asked my mother for my first monster high doll and and my first articulated ken doll from the movie kinda reminds me of the old ken doll from the 80s/90s talking about his face sculpt
It’s a koala not a panda. Also this is VERY off topic, but in the Sweet Fruit Color Reveal Barbie series there’s a doll that has the 1987 Christie face sculpt. It’s the one with the big red hair, if you get past the poor quality of the hair the doll is actually really pretty. The facial screening doesn’t have the graininess of some of the Barbie’s these days, I recommend getting her if you’re the type to get your dolls rerooted. When I found this out I was excited, they don’t use it very often anymore so she’s a rare hidden gem.
I don't know, but these newer dolls with older face molds (such as christie, nichelle, goddess) don't look as pretty as before. They look "bloated" x.x I got a 90's Christie, with eyes not so big, and made a reroot on her, it's one of those special Mickey/Disneyland barbies.
The 90s Teresa dolls were stunning. They always reminded me of Phoebe Cates from the 90s (Drop Dead Fred, Gremlins, etc). Unfortunately my mum didn't like me having Teresa as my dad's first wife's name is Teresa. 😂🤣😂🤣
They do so many t-shirt dresses because of the diverse body types the dolls have. Clothes swapping is the biggest factor in doll play and those dresses fit all of the body types
Controversial opinion maybe, but I don’t think body diversity is worth sacrificing the core appeal of Barbie for. In an ideal world, I wish Barbies would be sold with a clearly marked dress size (calling the four body types something like Medium, Large, Tall and Petite). And then fashion packs could be sold tailored to specific sizes, ideally with every outfit available in all four sizes. I get that Mattel probably wouldn’t do it because of SKU bloat, confused grandmas and fashion packs being a tiny part of doll play nowadays. But it would be wonderful to have proper Barbie fashion back, and I honestly think having explicit sizes be a thing makes a lot of sense from a body diversity point of view.
@CanonessEllinor When the different body types were introduced, Mattel did just this. They had a picture code on the top right corner highlighted for the body the outfit was made for. It's a little disappointing they got away from that.
@@CanonessEllinorwe call them standard, curvy, petite and tall already. So body type descriptors are set. They could do different outfits for each body type, but in same fabrics just like real fashion designers do. Maybe have a couple pieces that would work for all. Sell the pieces that fit every doll together in a $10 fashion pack and the others individually at $5 . And they should do shoe packs. Same color/style shoes, but one pair for each foot type. It feels like they're just trying to grab money out of parents pockets these days. They used to be more thoughtful about how they put things together and how people used their products.
They could have more inclusive fashions by using stretchy fabrics. A lot of the Sparkle Girlz fashions used to fit different Barbie bodies great and they were cute!
I had the peaches and Cream barbie when I was a child. She was my absolute favorite then. These days I love my Medusa and Athena Barbie Special Editions
I have been collecting the Barbie repro lines since 94. I have all the ones released since but these new dolls in the line namely P.J. and Teresa have seemed so cheap. Love their face sculpt and fashion but the doll itself is cheap. Would have loved them in the silk stone body. I bought P.J. but am on the fence on Teresa. This fashionista new line is beyond bad. Hope next year they amp up the lines especially with the resurgence of Barbie. Loved your video. Take care!
The two Dreamtopia mermaids you like use the Odile head sculpt! It’s the first time it’s being used on playline dolls (to my knowledge) 🤩 A lot of people would love if Odile became the new head sculpt for “generic” Barbie.
Great video, Joey! (I think it's the first time I've heard you use an explative.) I think the Anniversary Teresa is a member exclusive. Mattel is slowly recovering some quality, but these playline dolls are definitely hit and miss.
I am IN LOVE with the Teresa doll because my favorite color is yellow. Also, my birthday is coming up soon, so I'll have to tell my parents about this. And the original as well because I am a HUGE 80's lover too. 💛 UPDATE: I GOT IT!!! I GOT THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY THERESA DOLL!!! MY MOM BOUGHT IT FOR ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY! I have my Barbies from the 80s and 90s and have recently been giving them to my daughter to play with I wish I could show which ones I have so you could identify their original names and what year they came out!
I'm very excited for the new Fashionistas. However, I'm sometimes not a fan of the flat shoes. This is why I give them Made To Move bodies, so they could wear heels.
What I like about that limited edition Draculaura is in the back of her hair is a Barrette that has a heart in it that's called a Vampire Heart you can see and that was in the movie called frights Camera Action and I love how they incorporate that.
same here. But even their heads are not worth nowadays... I think the last one I got was fashionista 180, it's the only one I have from that wave, and then, I never bought a fashionista anymore.
The Rockers tribute Fashionista looks like the 1987 line when they all had a star pattern on their fashions. I loved the first several years of Fashionista.
I think maybe another reason why the Fashionistas have those shapeless outfits and T-shirt dresses is to make outfits that will fit as many body types as possible so kids can put the outfits on different dolls. It also like you said makes them cheaper to produce.
11:35 I can’t wait to see that! My sister and I were obsessed with Teresa, and some of Teresa’s dolls looked more like me and others more like my sister. It was the 90s and early 2000s, and Barbie did not care for consistency 😂
I really don’t understand how they put considerably more effort into Monster High and even the Disney Princess line than Barbie? The faces also are so pixilated in person it’s almost shocking.
