One of my favorite topics. Sounds like someone may have misused the term on you. Spiritual bypassing as I understand it is the egoic act of using spiritual concepts as a principles to justify the denial/ignorance of some apparent truth. For example, a solipsist might deny another person's ability to experience hurt due to the solipsist's belief that their mind is the only thing that exists. They are spiritually bypassing the other's experience of pain and the claims of existence that other is expressing in order to prioritize their own spiritual belief (despite direct experience to the contrary). A more simple way of looking at it is to say spiritual bypassing describes the willful allowance of cognitive dissonance in matters concerning spirituality.
Mm yes, it’s a very loosely defined term and many things can fall under it. I think it can be damaging if we don’t acknowledge other’s opinions or perspectives or to try to force our reality. However the reality of the mind, emotions, and perspective can also be very abstract and complex and is often difficult to view from a.. let’s say.. 100% objective place. From this light we could say cognitive dissonance can be difficult to put a finger on, as the realm of thought is already quite abstract and based in opinion and perspective. It remains a reality however that oftentimes spiritual people can justify or twist immoral actions using this will and steadfast adherence to their perspective/reality. However I would say we also all do that to some degree, perhaps it should just always be for beneficial reasons. Although this seems like a reality very distant from the highest goodness and that of an enlightened being to distort or will the perspectives of others. A bit rambly.. I don’t know.. just my thought process.. a lot to dive into here.
@@CosmicCaves The realm of thought can be refined to reflections. A mystical ego can observe experiences being expressed as thoughts without believing in the thoughts themselves. The discomfort of cognitive dissonance presents an opportunity to escape limiting belief systems. Spiritual bypassing as I understand it occurs when we take comfort in the security of a conflicted belief despite it having been invalidated. I only find spiritual bypassing to be unethical when it overrides objective reasoning. The ego's gift is the ability to reflect the patterns we experience, store them, and allow them to be encoded into to language for communication. My opinion: Ideal scenario - Ego releases everything that arises Less ideal - Ego is attaches to perceived truth Least ideal - Ego attaches to self deception
If it bothers you that someone said that to you then they're probably right. If it doesn't maybe they are wrong. Only you know if you're using spirituality or "conscious awareness as a crutch to not face the unconscious aspects of yourself/your perceived reality through filter of your subconscious. Do you mind if I ask if you've ever done any psychedelics/ do you smoke weed? And if not? Why not? and If yes, what experiences have you had?
Yes I have, but I no longer do them as I have come to the conclusion for now that they are not pure and not beneficial for the long term spiritual evolution. It’s been a long time since I’ve done psychedelics, however I’ve had amazing experiences on psychedelics in the past and very enlightening experiences. The Sphinx of Giza was one face I kept seeing on psychedelics.
@@CosmicCaves Awesome man. Why do you think they’re impure? Let’s forget them all except for cannabis. Why/what have you experienced or saw in others that made you come to this conclusion?
@@trumuse9646 I respect everyone's experience and vision of the world. I dont think anything is so concrete if everything is one. However in my own personal experience and I have heard this described too.. this is the function of cannabis. The first 30 minutes are actually sattvic, and i experience this, kind of a psychedlic feeling. Then the next about hour is rajasic, you get the munchies etc, then the last portion hour or more is tamasic. This is what I've heard, but also makes sense to me because of my experience, so it is that rajasic and tamasic portions that can lead to impurity of body and mind. I know lots of sadhus smoke weed, but for me personally I interpret the depictions of Shiva smoking weed as illustrating his "divine intoxication" with god as people saw him acting in a drunken state and didn't understand why. I think he was drunk on god instead of cannabis. But again, can cannabis be helpful for some knowing all is one? I wouldn't doubt it 🙏.
Thanks for sharing bro it really helps to understand different perspectives and how it's being used either for or against us
