I hadn't heard Aliens Ate My Buick in 25yrs and I was in a "record" store and I heard those first chords of "Budapest"-and started crying. I ran up to the cashier and she said it just came in, in the used cds, she had no idea what it was, and stuck it in. It's in my car!
Bought the CD when it was brand new. This was the song that struck me as the most brilliant. After 35 years I can only say that I underestimated it. It is shear genius.
One of the coolest songs I’ve ever heard. I listened to AAMB countless times in the late 80’s. TD did a great job playing the guitar solo part, but the actual solo is super wicked.
I used to do a lot of sequencing back in the early 90's..Wasn't able to pursue my music career and lost touch with technology.. But for the life of me I can't understand how TD does these performances. It's incredible.. He's always been a unique artist... A genius for sure..
Yep it's hard to see how he reproduces everything on his own. The miracles of tech, and knowing how to do exploit it. I didn't get to continue using the tech I'd accumulated as much as I'd liked, and don't have TDs genius!
Linda música! Muito parecido com o Prefab Sprout. Inclusive o disco de maior sucesso do Prefab foi produzido pelo Thomas Dolby. Voz muito parecida com a do Paddy McAllon.
Usually, I get disappointed by "remakes", even if those remakes are performed by the original artist. Remember Eagles Hotel California. They reunited and changed that famous guitar solo at the end. Ruined the whole song for me. Budapest by Blimp was one of my favorite songs. It was so dreamy. Many of his songs are dreamy. That's what I always like about Thomas Dolby. I started listening to this version and at first, I had some doubts, but the more I listened the more I liked it. Great performance.
Futuro 88,9 Fm playlists early 90s Santiago, Chile. Dolby, unique sofistication. Legendary. Looks like it's a PRO SHOT. Does it belong to a coming dvd/br Glenn ?
I own the UK edition of The Sole Inhabitant CD/DVD which is where this live performance is taken from. It is a two disc edition, disc one CD recorded live at Martyrs Chicago IL may 2006, disc two DVD filmed at Berklee Performance Center Boston MA sept 28 2006
A stunning song that randomly enters my mind on many an occasion. And then demands a full listen...
Watched him play this live in London last week...he's fantastic! Thank you Mr Dolby!

If it wasn’t for Rockula I would not have known about this musical genius. Hauntingly beautiful.
One of my all time favorite Thomas Dolby songs!!! It takes me back to a certain time in my life!!
Me too! So good memories!
And me 😊 As any fan knows he produced the brilliant Prefab Sprout album Steve McQueen. If you listen to the song Desire As you will hear a similarity

Lucky enough to see that tour. Own the vinyl. Easily my favorite on that album.
The depth of this song.
One of the very few songs that still gives me goosebumps! Flippin' fanstastic!
One of my favorite albums…those damn aliens ate his buick
Good to see this live as he did most of that album by himself in his studio.
absolutely haunting song, and this is a tour de force
I dont think music can get better than this....
¡Lo más! Unparalleled🎉
Incredible cords. Storytelling and music that make the deep soul stir. Genius is seen so seldom these days, at least we see a glimpse of it here.
Watching him perform this makes the song even more meaningful
love this track ! soooooo much !!!!
I love you Thomas!!!
That song bring me to that decade (80´s) the colors, the worry about the aids, the people without damn cellphones
One of my favorite Dolby tunes!
Mr. Dolby is like Alfred Hitchcock. He really understands how to create and release tension...
Thank you thomas dolby your welcomed in our country
Amazing. So many Dolby songs I love but this is one of my favorites. I think it really shows how talented he is.
In The Age of the Electric Wireless! Incredible LP! Thomas Dolby has always been a genius!

Still listening in 2021!
Astonishing. It all looks like magic to me.

El hombre orquesta.
Simply brilliant.

Great music!
Love this song - gives me the same vibe as Fleetwood Mac's "Hypnotized". Hell, this is one of my all time favorite albums!
Damn! I don’t get those vibes at all! But… that song also really rips. Possibly my favorite song by them.
@@alexbaum2204 Oh, it’s the feel of the piece. Almost haunted and beautifully textured. I get it.
Certainly never crossed my mind though.
That piano is so good at the end Love it!

If this was recorded at The Scala at Kings Cross, I was there!
Awesome Mr. DOLBY!!!
Late Night Tales (Royksopp) brought me here
Magnificent !
Me encanta todo el lp. Uno de mis 50 preferidos list

Glenn Gould thanks a lot. I saw him live one year after in DC. Amazing show by a talented musician and story-teller.
Thanks for the info Glenn.
I wish he'd do that album live with a band that transcribes ALL parts to horns etc.
Maravilhoso !
LISTENER ALERT! LISTENER ALERT! This track is a gateway drug to jazz.
Not that that's a bad thing.
👍👏👏
I cherish Terry Jackson's bass in this song
Steampunk pioneer
One of my favorite Dolby songs. I meditate on the destruction of America's First Nations during the eve of this 51st National Day of Mourning.
I LOVE THAT ALBUM!!! (I'm dating myself) He made some BAD tracks. His mind is just......man love whatever He puts together.
Bassline Phunk bad as in good or bad as in actually bad? because if you mean good, you're right
@@3dpixel503 Bad as in good, of course. I love Thomas Dolby. He has a Great musical mind (Mind's Eye.. No punn intended).
I see the predecessor of Jacob Collier
Good shout
Part of the genius is that it sounds like he is playing off key...
