I just always wished I could prove my grandma's claims to be part native on her dad's side. She never said which tribe . I proved the other claim of part French Canadian. Just couldn't prove native for a long time but maybe since I've looked up the Eastern Cherokee Bakers Roll and found a name that is very close spelling to an ancestor of my grandma named Minnie Sheldon but on that roll it's Minnie Shelton. There's also a name on their last name Templeton which is a surname of a relative of Minnie Sheldon. Not sure since my grandma's ancestors lived in Ohio and that tribe is in Tennessee. It would be neat if this is a link to my grandma's ancestry claims of being part Native. I dont think my grandma would have lied about that. If it's not true she may have been given false information herself.
call the Trible Court House in CHEROKEE N.C. they can help you with your grandmas ancestry. thats what i did. they are experts on our family history. makes since of course. our people are everywhere. i have the exact situation as yours. my Paternal Grandmother is Cherokee, no doubt at all. my grandma an her sister are listed on the BAKERS ROLL. what most people miss is this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the 1924 Bakers Roll is a list of not only everyone recognized for citizenship. BUT, also everyone that (submitted) a application. understand. there was a application you had to submit with documented proof of lineal ancestry. i.e. my grandmother had to show documented proof either her mother or father were native. she didnt do this so she was denied. that doesnt mean my grandmother or are not cherokee. the purpose of the bakers roll i think was to basically qualify people that are accepted, for money an land. my grandma was born in southern kentucky. my father an all of us lived in OHIO. Grateful for this story Brings back history to mind. .Tribal casinos in particular are an important part of the US gaming industry.tribal gaming generated close to 45 percent of all gaming revenue in the United States, Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 . federal law authorizing Native American tribes to build and operate casinos on their reservations. Often rambling about why I gave up on school.. reservation the action of reserving something "the reservation of positions for non-American I may say again, generated a round like 45 percent of all gaming revenue in the United States, Brings a smile

It's sad to me that the reporter and anchor are so passively hostile. As though the chief needs to explain to them what he intends to do with this land that was taken from his ancestors and his people are now having to purchase to get back.
Our culture's the original one there, and it will always be our homeland. I'm glad we're taking some of our land back.
of coarse you were there first, but its all I know its my home to
@@bradthorne22 That's cool. We can all get along, glad you're here
Blacks are not indigenous to America
Agree. It's lovely to see us getting land back even if we gotta pay for it.
We do not live on a reservation! We own our land! This is a joke!
Why do they have to build casinos? Why can't the businesses be farming, teaching the old ways, medicinal herbs ... wholesome things.

@@earlcox3470Thanks.
I can go ahead & tell you it’s not true, If you don’t have roots in Cherokee NC or Talequah OK there’s no chance
My culture is really strong on my side of cherokee and choctaw
I think if the Cherokee use a portion of the Casino & Dispensary money into slowly rebuying their old lands would be brilliant. I support them 100%.
I’m glad to see that the natives are taking back their land which it was theirs to begin with
I would love for a casino closer to Knoxville Cherokee casino
