If the pond is in the ground yes they are perennials and sleep in the soil/pot they are planted in like a hosta or other perennial would all winter. If your pond is above ground maybe not though NJ doest stay below freezing for long periods (like weeks). Just a day or two or three so large bodies of water wouldn't freeze but at the top.
Yes absolutely but they want to flower in a sunnier spot. Note they also prefer to grow in water warmer than 60 or 65 degrees so if it is colder expect super slow growth. Try Mangala Ubol or Prakisad. Joey Tomocick is also good as is Colorado.
I want to plant in residential pond behind my house. Sometimes after a big rain, the depth of the water will rise 4+ feet. Is there any way to keep the plant from floating away in this scenario?
Very informative, thanks! Question. Will hardy water Lilies survive in Illinois zone 5b? I am specifically looking at the Ellisiana Hardy Red waterlily in your website. Thanks!
nice video...question: I pulled my water lillies out of the pond for overwintering in my green house, but when I went to repot them there are no roots, just a bulb. They do have a couple of very small leaves; is it dead, or will it grow again?
Is it a tropical waterlily then that tubered? You simply need to fertilize it with 4 or 5 fertilizer tablets around that small marble size tuber if the water is over 72 degrees F.
@@pondmegastore yes, it is a tropical. The water is still in the 60's during the day, so what should I do with the tubers until then? And, thanks for the response
@@HobbyAddictions wait until water is above 72 degrees then fertilize and or bump to a new pot for the year. They want it sunny and warm with adequate nutrition in the soil.
Not really. In the north, deeper cooler and sometimes darker water simply make the plant grow amd develop more slowly. The size in the end should be just as large a plant.
We mention how to make the soil in another video .... equal parts TOP soil (not potting soil, make sure it isnt full of organic material), clay (all natural clay kitty litter would work no other ingredients), and pre-rinsed sand. Pool Filter sand or Play sand for children's sandboxes will work. Mix equal parts of all 3 and lightly dampen until a thick heavy mud or soil is formed.
Thanks for the video! I need help in growing my hard water lily in tub pot. Do you got any ideas to help this growing. I planted last month and it started growing only 4 inches. Also some leaves turning brown. How long it will take to grow as a big plant and how deep should I keep inside the tub pot?
Depends on your weather, the size container you plant it in. If you plant it as we said properly .... so many folks go other methods then complain it is not going well. You want to give them decent temperatures, space, proper soil, proper fertilizer. Plant initially just 5 to 10 inches deep then after 3 weeks lower them to 12 to 28 inches deep if you want.
Hi, what happen if I plant the rhizome backward from what you've shown in the video? As in, the cut part at the far side of the edge of the pot. I just plant it about a week ago. Should I fix it immediately?
Loam soil. Please Google it. Loam is found in probably 65% of the USA. In the video you see mostly children's playground sand on top but Loam is what we are discussing and needed.
Just a little but No fish should be able to get to shallow lotus. What is the need there? We use sand just to discourage fish from rooting into soil a little.
Nothing is better than Pin Waree or Prakisad. Both are unending flowering hardy lilies. Forget most of the older varieties many of the new ones are incredible.
@@pondmegastore Thank you so much for your reply. Are these varieties hardy to Zone 3 ? I live in zone 4, I'm keeping it in a pot, not in a pond. Will they survive the harsh winter if kept in a pot outdoors?
We don't ship seeds of any lilies. We sell live plants and only within the USA. Seeds of any hybrid plant are not genetically stable and will not represent a genetic copy of the parent plant. Always go with a vegetative form of reproduction like a tuber or rhizome!
Thank you for the tutorial!
Ty for the info. Can I grow them in New Jersey? We get snow in winter. Do they survive winter?

All I see is play sand in the container... is that right? Can you help describe more on soil preparation?
We only had Sand at this location for the video but we gave proper instructions for the loam soil beneath that top dressing
Awesome 😊

I use akadama in a wide clay pot, in a 25 gallon tub
I usually just place the plant in the clay of a 20 gallon tub, rather than in a small pot in the water
Which verity is this?
can i grow water lily in sand?
No, these are heavy feeders they need real Loam. You can top dress with sand.
How much prise sir plz reply from india
Shipping to India is more expensive than the plants but you can email us on our website and let us know what you want
@@pondmegastore😟
The calor is so good red
Is it all sand ???
No, soil (non-organic sifted topsoil). Sand is just the topping. There is no nutrients in sand and these need a lot of nutrients and fertilizer
@@pondmegastore also can I add aqua soil instead of normal soil since I have a lot of aqua soil
@@shanefernandes9044 MOST aqua soil is from companies that has never grown a plant and its useless. What brand?
@@pondmegastore Ada amazoniA version 2
@@shanefernandes9044 mostly for aquariums but if you fertilize heavy it's OK for lilies. Needs lots of fertilizer.
