Yep. Early 70’s to mid 80’s will never be matched. Waylon Willie Johnny Kris , Merle . Boxcar , Possum and several gone. Saw George in Ky when he was doing a show , he must of been out sight seein as this blacked out limo pulled on to our dirt road , as the driver turned around at my dads feed store the back window rolled down and ole possum himself waved at me as he just smiled and drove away.
It seems the older I get the more I love this man’s voice and music…truly one of my favorites if not my favorite country music performer of all time…Miss you Merle…we are less without you…❤️🎼🎶🎵🇺🇸
You learn something new every day. I never knew The Hag had his own version of the Patsy Cline classic. Of course, they never played this song on the radio back in the day when country music was still real.
I just want to cry when I see your face, and when I hear the heavenly beauty that comes off your lips 😢😢I miss you so so much my dear Merle “in all your splendor” 🩷🩷🩷🩷
Yes, Gordon Terry was in my Grandfather's band Lucky White and His Dude Ranch Playboys back in the 1940s. I have a great picture with Gordon in the band with Foreman Phillips at the KPMO Radio show (1947) Gordon plays lead fiddle in Lucky's song FLOUR LARD COFFEE SUGAR (1953) recorded at Les Paul's studio in that same year.

I saw Merle’s band around 1973 in Bakersfield, California. My sister and I went to this outdoor get together thing (Can’t remember exactly what it was called) where actor Robert Fuller of TV shows “Laramie” and “Emergency” was going to be. Buck Owens and his band was supposed to be there, but they couldn’t make it, so Merle’s band filled in. For some reason, Merle couldn’t make it though. Got to meet Robert Fuller and get his autograph.

@@markive9907 Gordon was a ripper. If you visit my channel you'll find a few videos with Lucky's band photo with Gordon. He must of been 17 years old. Search for SUGAR MOON by Lucky White. Great music; but Bob Wills is still the king! I remember my Dad playing San Antonio Rose on the phonograph when he learned the Air Force was transferring him to Randolph A.F.B just outside of San Antonio in 1954. I was so excited to be moving to the city of the Alamo! I still love my adopted hometown!
I've watched this over and over! I saw the entire show and just love this song. I looked up its history and found that Patsy Cline sang it too, so I'm going to learn it on piano to sing when the covid shut down ends. Of all the people who've sung Sam Antonio Rose, I prefer Merle Haggard. He makes it his own!

This is well done but I prefer Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys version - featuring that fantastic honey-tonker Al Strickland on piano!! Gee that man has more soul in his little finger than.... and it may be that this band is backing Merle up, right here. They don't give Strickland a chance to shine but I'm thinking its him on the keys. In any case, this is sweet!
Oh, yeah! Merle working that fiddle! But if you listen close, how about his smooth vocals? He just slides right into it. Pretty much perfect. Bob Wills was this good in his dreams.
For my money Merle has the best voice in country music.
His voice is so beautifully mellow. No onein Country music today has talent like this.
Back when America was king.
Merle Haggard was from an era where country music was real and told a story an era that will never be duplicated.

Near the end of this when Bonnie comes in singing with Merle I don't know if it's me but the way Merle was looking at her I thought Bonnie looked sad
