Do you know what it takes to become legal? Remember we have no immigration process the process now is years behind. The GOP shoots down immigration reform! Did you think you can just get legal in a few months?
Just to let everyone know... there is a federal law forcing employers to file an i9 form that uses a federal database to check for legal right to work. DeSantis just made a state version of it. I worked HR and ya we would get stop work notices for certain individuals and we were forced to fire individuals who didn't have the legal right to work.
@daveb6125 I was just HR. All I know is first we'd get a letter from the feds to fire a confirmed unauthorized laborer then the state sends some lacky to confirm (we usually send him the termination paperwork) but if we get caught with too many laborers on the roster the state fines is $5k per violation and the state can decide to revoke a business license depending on the severity of the violation.
You were using eVerify which is not a law to use; however I9s and along with ID verification is required. It’s not usually legally advisable to use eVerify for a variety of reasons including being held liable if anything goes wrong with supplying personal identifiable information to a third party, even if it is the federal government. Another issue is opening the door to wrongful termination since eVerify can only be done post hire. The one place we used it at, in the 2 years I worked there we must have had a dozen times where a new hire was flagged illegal erroneously. Again though it’s all a legal thing, most lawyers for each company I’ve worked for (all less than 100 people) have all advised against it but there are lawyers that develop correct procedures to enable eVerify use and keep their client safe from any legal trouble.
You’re overlooking the provisions of the law that also ban migrant and refugee workers who are in the U.S. *legally*. These are in full violation of federal immigration laws, not that the “governor” cares.

Well duh!! Citizens don’t have to worry about that law, only immigrants do. By the way, I disagree about your statement when laws “don’t create fear”. Laws do create fear, the reason why you claim that laws doesn’t create fear is because you never experienced a law that negatively affected you. Let’s say for example that you are an immigrant that came to the United States for a better life. However, you’ve been informed and aware that the United States has passed a exclusion law that would certainly affect your life. You would be scared because it is your future livelihoods, you dreamed of going to here because you think no other place is a great as the United States of America. My two cents: A. no other countries treat illegal immigrants as nice as America. Many European countries crack down on employers hiring illegal immigrants and the employers have to pay hefty fines. B. there are short-term visas available for seasonal labor jobs that natives don’t want to do. For instance, Sweden and Finland hire Thais to pick up wild berries at these two countries during harvest seasons every year.

At 3:00 when she says "Not too many people are lining up for these jobs" we already know that. A lot of these farmers already tried to hire locals and most of them quit after a few days. When we refer to these jobs as "back breaking labor" there's a reason for that, in addition to being physically demanding, people can develop health problems after doing these jobs for prolonged periods of time (my grandmother developed a spinal deformity in the later parts of her life) locals do not want to do these jobs, and the produce being picked is too sensitive for automation, or farmers would have started using machines a long time ago like with any other agricultural product. Locals _will not do thses jobs._
There is a lot of people who want jobs. They would do it for fair wages and not have to learn Spanish. Or treated like an outsider because they don't speak Spanish. You can't convince me that they would not do it because I know I would.

Wait, construction is a skilled job, and there is a reason there are regulations that are supposed to direct it. If someone is not here legally and the company is using them trying to cut corners, guarantee the company is cutting corners elsewhere and that could be putting lives at risk. The companies should be held accountable. I also think that the people that skills have been used should be able to use that to push through making them legal
How many of y'all remember Lawton, Childs governor of Florida back in the 90s I believe. Who took the basic journeyman license regulation out of Florida I was a new electrician at the time and it's severely cut down on our earnings because now you didn't have to have a license to be an electrician anymore or a plumber. The workforce was saturated with unlicensed workers who didn't have to have the training. And it was clear that this was done to keep up with the booming economy and filled it with nonqualified workers. So think about when you come into this country, come in legally and learn how to do a trade. What I have found these workers send their money back home to other countries to support their families in other countries. I've worked with many people from Brazil that are not legal and are still doing this to this day in 2023. So it supports other economies other than ours.
It supports the economies of both. If they chose to send money back to their families (some have no family and therefore find it easier to leave) they must still pay to survive. Also if an employer takes taxes from their wages automatically, immigrants aren’t getting any refunds for overpayment.
I thought that the fact that they get a MUCH lower salary was helping US economy, or at least, "helping" the company for what they work for. Also, somehow, they get tax deductions from their salary checks, AND they don't send 100% of their salaries to their countries, they spend part of that money here in the US for living costs 🤷🏻♀️ So it's a win- win game, but in long term, even though they pay tax during their work life, they won't have any retirement savings because they won't be granted for that benefit since they're illegals, so when they're old, and tired, they're going to go back to their countries and those countries are going to have to deal with those retirees that during their productive age never work for those economies.

TOO BAD. CRY ME A RIVER. 18 YEARS AND STILL UNDOCUMENTED SHAME ON YOU. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO HAVE DONE IT THE CORRECT WAY. UNDOCUMENTED IS THE KEY WORD!!!!
This is about taxes. First some of the workers say they do not have papers but actually have a green card or citizenship but choose to work as undocumented and thereby not pay taxes. 2nd, the big construction companies are allowed to give visas to many specialized undocumented workers..again have to pay taxes and the companies have to pay for more in benefits. In the long run paying taxes and benefits makes USA a better infrastructure and a better country.
And how to you know that? Ridiculous to think that after waiting for years for a green card & citizenship (let alone qualify) that they would prefer to be paid under the table. They will never get social security benefits that way.
Undocumented workers actually pay between 9:00 and $12 billion dollars in taxes per year annually. They do it through some kind of thing called an ITIN. I don't know what that is but you can go look it up because I wondered about it myself. When I read a book about a man who was here for 25 years without papers and actually went to college, became a reporter for the Washington Post and won a Pulitzer prize. So for good or bad and I don't know what it means. But before you say that they don't pay taxes you might want to go look that up. It doesn't solve anything of course, but neither does the way we're doing things now. We should create a committee to seriously look at immigration reform. It's something that has been needed for decades, but everybody's just fighting about it and nobody's coming up a solutions. You know it's a problem. We need a solution. In the meantime, check the tax thing out. You might be surprised. Source is... Mostly the IRS.

This has led to various economic, social, and political challenges for the state, such as strained public resources, debates over education and healthcare access, and concerns about labor market competition. But let's make it personal, I have several friends who are residing unlawfully in our nation, and they specifically selected California due to its status as a sanctuary state. But hey, the can't get a decent job, everywhere they go they are told consistenly that if they don't have US valid papers they can't get a job. So, they are exploited as slave labor, all the while californian left-leaning politicians, who can be likened to contemporary slave owners, assert their moral superiority. This exemplifies a repugnant case of hypocrisy in action. New York: As a major gateway for immigration, New York has a large and diverse immigrant population. While immigration has undoubtedly contributed to the state's cultural and economic vibrancy, challenges related to overcrowded schools, affordable housing, and access to public services have been reported in certain areas. Seattle Infrastructure strain: A sudden influx of immigrants can put pressure on local infrastructure such as transportation, housing, and public services, leading to strains on resources and increased demand for facilities. Economic impact: Immigration can have both positive and negative effects on the economy. While immigrants contribute to the labor market and consumer spending, there can be competition for jobs, which may impact certain sectors or lower-skilled workers. Social services: An increased population, including immigrants with varying needs, strain social service systems such as healthcare, education, and welfare. This will certainly create labor loss in Florida because Americans would never work in these conditions nor for the low income. This will create a huge deficit in the farming industry and will only increase the cost of vegetables and fruit because they will either have to buy from other states or even from other countries. This is so frickin funny. How long until they can't feed all the tourists this summer? Tourists might as well not go to Florida.

It is always about the fear of losing those undocumented workers. Have they even bothered to ask those who are here legally? The people who actually wait in line and do the right thing to come to this country legally for a better life. They did not have the opportunity to walk across the southern border, demand to be let in, and when things don't go their way, they start suing the country that wants to help them. That is just crazy.
Keep in mind the guy that's working in your house as an electrician or plumber or an AC mechanic etc. he may not have any licensing at all. And that is why I am against illegal immigration because we have lowered our standards to boost big corporation economy.
Construction does not depend on illegal workers its just tje GC wants to make sure us small amercan contractors get less of their pie so they make us compete with workers who shouldn be here and dont pay the business taxes
Yep. Those that feel sorry for the illegals are delusional. Ex. A 60k salary of the taxpayers = about $30k. Not including housing, medical, supplemental food. Where as the illegals portion is $60k untaxed, free housing, medical, food, education.
Not each individual has the opportunity to be accepted to come legally. Look at the number the food and fruits you eat come from the people whom you wish to send back. Maybe it should be a federal law to give citizenship to each farmer worker as a means. After all they are getting paid way under wage, I think that would be a better solution that would work in favor in favor of everyone. Try to be open minded and it’s not a matter of need. E-verify doesn’t work. Eight years ago the company I worked for went to e-verify. In order to complete the requirements for having a verified workforce, all employees had to be e-verified. Imagine my surprise when I was disqualified by the e-verify program. I am a natural, born U.S. citizen. Thirty percent of the workforce who were citizens were disqualified under e-verify.
And actually if your company is a federal contractor you may very well have to participate in eVerify, sorry just popped in my head.

An undocumented friend, now 28, was brought here by parents at age 6. He can't get DACA, doesn't know Mexico or anyone living there...has never even visited! The path to legal immigration is decades long waiting. He's happily employed by employers who appreciate his work and don't want to lose him. There's literally no good ending. And so? It's the stupid soft on illegal immigration that has caused this problem. How about the millions of people that wait on question all over the world to enter US legally, how about them. Why reward someone for breaking the laws.

We all know Ronnie D isn't going to be out picking oranges.
Right the only way Americans re gonna pick oranges and do those jobs is if they pay rent and bills and we all know they don’t
The cheap labor also drives wages down and increases competition for actual Americans trying to do the same work.

First, if you're interested in obtaining the 50-state immigration status report, I suggest conducting your own research. I am not obligated to fulfill your specific information requests or cater to any of your biased cultural preferences. So I will refer to whichever states, cities, or areas I deem appropriate.
Now, Let's see whether your claim that I have absolutely no understanding of the information provided by the states regarding illegal immigration.
California: California has a large immigrant population, including both documented and undocumented individuals.
Seattle
Infrastructure strain: A sudden influx of immigrants can put pressure on local infrastructure such as transportation, housing, and public services, leading to strains on resources and increased demand for facilities.
Providing adequate support and resources for these services can be challenging.
But hey... you know better.
And yes, I am involved in the commercialization, integration, installation, and maintenance of Aerospace Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance systems for Air Traffic Management Applications. However, I fail to see the connection between my expertise in this field and the current topic of discussion.
That is only the tip of the iceberg.
How about the farms pay the workers more so Americans will take the jobs? Are you dumb? Why are you for giving rich farmers more profits?
Wrong, you should look at things with a positive light, it means there will be lots of jobs for Floridians, lots of opportunities and dealing powers. Floridians do not have to worry where their next meal will be coming from…. as they will have to go pick it fresh off the land. Good luck and bon appetite 🤦♂️
