  • Bestek Model: MRJ201GU This is the inside of the Bestek power adapter and converter. this converter appears to use transformers to step down the power that is being fed into it. This is a lot better method than some power converters use. some just cut the negative phase out of the 220v european power causing a 120v positive voltage and no negative voltage. this is very hard on electronics and can fry them depending on what components are contained inside them. the transformer method is the best method for changing voltages. if anything in the video is wrong please correct me in the comments. I am not an electrician and have only a little bit better than basic electrical knowledge.

I am grateful you made this video, I have had my Bestek converter now nearly 8 years and love it for my US electronics that I use in Israel. It has been making much noise and I was going to toss it, then I thought if I could open it I could clean out all the dust thats accumulated throughout the years. I had no idea how to open it until i came across your video. I cleaned out all the dust, but it still is noisy (perhaps the fan needs lubrication?) Anyway thanks for your video!

If it is the fan it might need a little lube. Or the fan might need to be replaced. They are just a simple little computer fan. If you look at the label on the fan it will tell you exactly what fan you need and you can probably buy it on eBay.

Based on their other products, and the fact that this converts frequency and voltage, I strongly suspect that this is actually an AC->DC->AC inverter. The transformer you see is part of a switch-mode power supply to create the DC voltage. The DC voltage is then converted to a "modified sine" stepped AC via an inverter, just like the DC->AC inverter you might buy for your car.
They also sell a "pure sine" converter that is frequency locked to the input frequency. It's not clear to me if that's just a transformer, but it seems like they are doing something more clever, since a 200W continuous rated transformer should weigh at least 3 lbs, and it weighs only half that.

The project like this step by step is described on the Avasva website and many more plans you can find on that website.

Thank you very much. I have ordered a lot of products 220 50hz to 110v 60hz for hair trimmer. But when operating it is very noisy, because of wrong frequency. Are you sure it will switch from 50hz to 60hz. I feel helpless please help me

Dung Lap it did for me. I never hooked it up to an oscilloscope but it ran my hair trimmers perfectly.
