As a lead, this is the exact information I’ve been asking salsa/dance instructors to give me for years (to no avail). Fantastic video. Gives me six starting points (steps) to master before learning their variations. Bravo.
It is in their interest not to make it simple. Unless they are losing repeat customers. But any teacher who doest nail the basics is not worth the time. Get the basics, take inspiration from great dancers and create your own routines.
Just started taking private lessons and I'm learning salsa. This video literally turned what I was seeing as graduate level calculus into basic math in terms of understanding the majority of salsa dancing. It looks so complex but it's so easy once you simplify it like you did in this video! Thank you so much! I can't wait to practice and become comfortable w/ social salsa dancing.
Slow start, but worth the wait. It is a really great video showing the basic building blocks of turn patterns in a way than makes it much easier to remember. Great learning format! More dance teachers should use this approach to teaching salsa. Thank You Salsaventura!
Ok. This is genius. Combine this with the ways of holding hands and you get not only fillers for socials, but it makes it even easier to learn new sequences (this turn with that hand position). Lighbulb moment video.
Fantastic. You are so spot on. I am starting from scratch for the third time, as everything I have learned is "forgotten". But watching your short, no-nonsens, straight to the point videos makes everything come back to me. Thank you so, so much for these videos. They bring more value than the most expensive Salsa classes.
Ground breaking. I gave up on salsa because I couldn't progress efficiently, all I could feel was frustration. If I ever return, this man will be my guide.
You guys are just awesome. You have kept it so simple ans easy to understand. Thank you so much for making it so easy for us to learn. Great respect guys.
Guy learns 258 moves, but lucky to remember 30 of them once he hits the dance floor. Any technique to help memory is great; I like this logical approach, thank you
Genius way of explaining things.... It's so helpful to see the "menu" of all pattern options (or at least their basic structure)! It makes it so much more manageable to learn and not get overwhelmed. Thanks for this great series of videos
6 turn patterns: In front of the lead: 5:48 Single right turn (Exhíbela) 5:54 Single left turn To the left of the lead 6:28 Cross budy turn inside (left) 6:58 Cross body turn outside (right) To the right of the lead 7:35 Enchufa (left) 8:16 Reverse cross body turn (right)
You described exactly my experience! Very useful and wise instruction. Altho i am dancing on 2, this is really useful to me. I especially appreciate the info about why it is that my mind becomes totally blank at the dance!! And this is how my brain works also...realizing that we are only doing a few essential moves, rather than getting caught up in so many details that of course go out the window when the girl is in front of me! I'll check out your other offerings.
i don;t dance salsa, i never took any classes, but i dance a lot of other styles. i learn so much from this video that no one belives me i don't dance salsa. thank you
I've been dancing for 3 years and no-one ever explained it like this. Crystal clear and reminded me of some nice moves that I'd forgotten when I started concentrating on more complicated moves. Thanks.
this is so helpful....and what he described about remembering all your turns it's true. I freeze on the dance floor when i am dancing with a girl because i trying to remember what moves to do and if she knows it. I end up looking like a one trick pony with my basic turn....before i watched this video.....i actually started using the Enchufa or open break as they call it and it's such a helpful turn because i know how to do it. I am taking Salsa lessons and to be honest it focuses more on the moves than on the footwork itself. I have seen guys doing many turns on the dance floor that have nothing to do with the rhythm of the song. Us Latino people dance with the rhythm of the song. Thank you for your helpful video...god bless you
Thank you so much. I am an older dancer, I don't have as many active brain cells as when I was younger, so, this video makes efficient use of what I have left. This may even make my brain create new connections.
Been taking lessons for a few months and just as he says "Get to the dance floor and can't recall the turn patterns. This video is GOLD and makes it all so much easier to take in. A great tutorial. Thankyou and greeting from Downunder.
Nice video. I'm at the high intermediate - low advanced level, but I think I will back up and learn your system and how to embellish the basic turns in ways I'm not doing now. Thanks so much for the videos.
Incredible video! I feel like I've found a kindred spirit. I break down Lindy Hop (aka Swing Dancing) the same way that you break down Salsa. With 3 Variables (Who turns, Direction of turn, and Where the turn happens) to play around with in a Basic Swing-out means exactly 100 Variations. It's an amazing way to teach! Bravo! I can't wait to see your hand-holds video. You count 7, I count 8. My guess is that you don't count hands-free. Oh and I love that you also include Hand Elevation (over head, shoulder and waist high). I can't wait to watch your other videos.
Solid video; well done! This is how I've always thought about salsa, though I also add a seventh turn: the reverse cross body turn inside. I agree it's not as commonly danced, but I've found that followers find it to be a nice surprise.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thankful for the individual that stated the dancing started at 4:10 (maybe something to put in the description) but I absolutely loved the instruction. Looking forward to mastering this so I can use my “emotional” brain on the dance floor, connect, and have fun. Thank you so much. This is now my salsa learning channel!!!

A wonderful well explained system! I myself have been using it when I teach, so totally agree it works!
Did you use 6 turns or 5? And did you know it already? Until now I did not find anyone that came up with the same system.
