Stalingrad had a number of elevated pipelines, when made useless by bombardment by German Bombers and Artillery many Soviet soldiers did in fact use them to travel. As for a railroad station being taken back this specific day on December 8th, I don't know but it's not out of the question with how often territory in the city changed hands.
