    If I remember correctly, the thing with the Obstagoon line is that they are originally from Galar, went to another region, change to be more docile (loding the capability to evolve to Obstagoon in the process I guess) and this more docile version extended to other regions.

    • @forgerofsouls9126
      @forgerofsouls9126 3 роки тому +17

      This is correct. The thing is, in Galar, Zigzagoon and its family actually have to compete for food. This has caused them to evolve as an aggressive species and including Obstagoon. But, long ago, when the species was introduced into other areas, they found they had no real competition for food. Thus, they evolved for different tactics.
      This is hinted at in Sword and Shield.
      In short, they are an invasive species in other regions.
      And in reality, we as players have zero right to tell the devs they are wrong for doing something like that. Well, you can tell them they are wrong, but, does not mean you are right to do so.

    Personally, if Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist hadn't been introduced in Kalos, I think they should have been saved for Galar, since the tradition of carving pumpkins for Halloween originated in the UK. Although they used turnips at first, and it was Americans who switched to pumpkins because they were more readily available, so Unova could work, too. Also, I couldn't agree more about Karrablast and Shelmet; how was a Pokemon called Escavalier with built-in jousting lances not saved for the France-inspired region? The brown zigzagoons aren't native to any other region except hoenn & maybe kalos & the ones from kalos could've been imported from Hoenn & let loose (would make more sense if they were Galarian since Galar's probably closer)

    • @VeggiePopper
      @VeggiePopper 3 роки тому +9

      So the solution to the plothole is that the original Galarian Zigzagoon was *first* imported to neighbouring Kalos, and it was there where it went divergent evolution and became a normal type while also losing it's final evolution? And then this newer Kalosian Zigzagoon was exported to the rest of the world and for some reason this variant from Kalos did ok everywhere else so it didn't need further changing?
      It's a stretch (especially arguing that a *weaker* form would be more suitable for survival than a more powerful evolved form), but otherwise, it may actually work. Also, that would retroactively make Kalos, not Alola, the first region ever to introduce regional variants.

      @@VeggiePopper based upon their dex entries is possible that linoone only evolves in galar due to the presence of the wild area.
      “...will recklessly challenge opponents stronger than itself”
      The wild area has access to higher levelled Pokemon at an earlier point than other games so it may be that evolution to Obstagoon is beneficial to allow it to compete. In regions where it has less competition (Hoenn), it likely has less battling experience and therefore doesn’t evolve as evolution likely comes with high energy demand.

      The way I see it, Galar doesn't have pack predators. Nothing like Mightyena, Lycanroc, Houndoom, or Manectric. In that setting, it would make sense that Obstagoon would evolve to be able to defend big kills from large single assailants, like Dragapult. In the other regions, pack hunting Pokemon are abundant, and going after big prey would eventually prove unfeasible, and thus Obstagoon would be outcompeted. Thus, Linoone is a mid-level predator like most mustellids.

    • @TelikiMouse
      @TelikiMouse 3 роки тому +4

      @@VeggiePopper well funny thing is about evolution while yes it means survival of the fittest it doesn't necessarily mean the physically strongest species will survive. Evolution is also more like whatever works the best for a species survives. Many extinct species of the past were apex predators at their time but overtime they died because they couldn't survive in the enviroment change. For the galarian ziggy line once they were imported to a new region over time, The more docile variant was able to survive better then the galarian version. Even if it was technically weaker then the original version the docile one was able to survive to the point where it was able to thrive more successfully after it lost obstagoon.

      I think that keeping it normal type makes the most sense as Galar's doesn't change typing as it evolves. Yet, instead of calling it Obstagoon, I think a new name is in order as I don't see it serving the same role as the one from Galar. It should be even speedier instead of bulkier, a real sneaky type of personality possibly, keeping a low profile and being more of an ambush predator. Avian and non-avian don't refer to flight when talking about dinosaurs. Kinda. Avian dinosaurs are the group that eventually became birds. (I think this includes raptors and t-rexes but i'm not sure). Non-avian dinosaurs are the ones that did not become birds. So archeops and tyrantrum are avian (possibly zolt and draco). Non-avian basically means anything that isn't what we would consider a bird. Whilst Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor are more closely related to birds than to many other theropods, they're still technically non-avian.
      And Aerodactyl, being a pterosaur, is not a non-avian or avian dinosaur, simply because it isn't a dinosaur at all. Pterosaurs are closely related to dinosaurs (they're archosaurs, as are modern day birds and crocodiles), but they're completely different lines.

    But that's exactly what happened to Exeggcutor. Alolan Exeggcutor is the true form, with Exeggcutor in other regions unable to grow into their full potential due to environmental factors.
    Also, look up convergent evolution. Multiple species converge on the same solutions to problems through evolution all the time. Nature has tried to make crabs from non-crab species in a process known as Carcinisation at least five separate times! Also, the explanation for the absence of a Hoennian Obstagoon, is that Zigzaggoon has less pressure to fight in the wild in other regions, so had no need for a third more defensive evolution, and was eventually lost.

      In gen 2, Heracross became Pinsir counterpart, while Oddish and Bellsprout lost counterpart status. You can argue Oddish and Poliwag are counterparts in Johto, then we got both Scizor and Steelix. Both evolve via Metal Coat, so Onix line and Scyther line became counterparts. Mr. Mime lost counterpart status.
      In gen 4, Jynx lost counterparts status with Electabuzz and Magmar, but it became a counterpart to Mr. Mime once again, while Rhyhorn line joined Electabuzz and Magmortar as counterparts.
      In gen 6, the counterparts were once again shaken up again, since Machamp and Golem lost their counterpart status with Alakazam and Gengar, since the latter 2 got Mega's, while the former 2 didn't. They haven't basically gotten counterpart status with eachother anymore, since Golem got Alolan form, while Machamp and Gengar got Gigantamax form.

    Diamond was the first main series game I owned (I played Emerald first, but it was owned by my classmate), so I thought Roselia was a Sinnoh Pokémon, since it has Budew and Roserade as pre- and final evolutions.
    So after I gained the National Dex, I was confused that Roselia had suddenly moved away from Sinnoh and into Hoenn, and thus I learned it was from Hoenn.
    In the past, I kept thinking Miltank, Nosepass, Togepi and Wobbuffet were all in Gen 1, and that Tangela was not in Gen 1, mostly because I keep forgetting about its existence. I think Tangela might be the most forgettable Gen 1 Pokémon.
    Speaking of Togepi, since you only get it as an Egg in Johto but can find them in the wild in Diamond and Pearl, and since Togekiss exists, Togepi might actually be from Sinnoh.
    And then of course there are wild Munchlax in Sinnoh, which means there might be wild Snorlax as well, even if you can't catch them, while there are only 2 Snorlax in Kanto, which might have been shipped there from Sinnoh or something.
    Riolu and Lucario, however, do not appear to be native to Sinnoh, since you can only get it as an Egg, while it does exist in the wild in Unova, Kalos and Alola. I'm not certain which region Lucario could have originated from, though since it's based on the Anubis, it might originate from an Egyptian region that we don't have access to yet.
    At the very least, Riolu is not native to Sinnoh.
    It also seems Zorua and Zoroark are not native to Unova, since they're event-only Pokémon and can't be found in the wild. Zorua can, however, be found in the wild in Hoenn and Alola, so they may originate from either of those regions, or maybe somewhere else, but at least they're native there.
    I think it's kinda crazy that they made a non-legendary evolutionary line an event-only Pokémon, in the same generation it was introduced, and you can only get them by transferring SPECIAL SHINY LEGENDARIES and a SPECIAL MYTHICAL Pokémon over. Like, instead of giving it as an Egg like with Riolu in Sinnoh, GameFreak is just like "Nope, gotta make this one harder to get!"
    And then of course there's Spiritomb who really can't be found in the wild... ANYWHERE. It's always just the one event one, or you have to go through a lot to get one to appear, like talk to 32 people in the Underground or Crown Tundra or whatever.
    Spiritomb is a really weird non-legendary Pokémon. It made sense before gen 6 when it had no weaknesses, but there was also Sableye with the same typing but could still be found in the wild, though it might be because Spiritomb is stronger than Sableye, but still.
    After gen 6 though, it has a weakness, yet it's still only found as an "event", while others like Riolu and Zorua can be found in the wild after the generation they were introduced in.
    Spiritomb is a weird one...

    Ok for your first one i flat out disagree with you. I can totally buy it. The galar region was the original home of the zigzagoon line. The original enviroment was so harsh that that it needed that third evolution. However when it is transported to other region like hoen the environment their is more friendly to their species and thus the zigzagoon lines becomes more docile. And since every other region is less harsh to the zigzagoon line it becomes the more docile variant it makes sense. Also your raichu example is wrong because raichu is explicitly stated as a regional variant while the galarian ziggy line is the original line.

It would be like transporting Galapagos tortoises all over the world while restricting other tortoise species to their natural habitats. It may be somewhat unlikely, but it's still perfectly feasible, especially if the non-Galarian Zigzagoon was preferred by most humans for some reason such as making for more well-behaved pets.

    I can see the Galarian Zigzagoon being the original. If some time, thousands of years ago, the Pokémon world was more clumped together like Pangea, maybe the Galarian ones formed first, some moved to another part of the world, got separated eventually by the world shifting, and then those ones evolved (like Darwin evolution, not Pokémon) into being the way they are because idk, maybe it helped them blend in with the duller colored grass and trees of nature, while the Galarian ones just never happened to come across that genetic mutation, but instead evolved (Darwin sense) to have an evolution (in the Pokémon sense, being Obstagoon). Now is that all just something I made up in my head? Yes. Was Pokémon just BSing because they wanted to make the Galarian forms more interesting? Yes. But I just think it’s a fun possibility. Also, great video!

    Well actually given that regieleki and regidrago were introduced in hisui(sinnoh in the past) I’d say it’s safe to assume that the original regi’s aren’t actually from hoenn and at some point in the past for whatever reason moved to hoenn……maybe some ancient battle was going down in hisui and they were able to escape while regigas/eleki/drago ended up staying and getting sealed away

    I liken Obstragoon to Australia and its mammals. I know mammals are not the narrowly defined species like Zigzagoon line, but Australian mammals are so different from mammals on any other continent. Different biological pressures to evolve and whatnot.

    Gamefreak explained the original Galar Zigzagoon behaved that way because of scarce food in the region which is also the reason why it lost the dark typing in other regions due to better conditions. It seems like a plausible theory to me. For example, (say) the African elephants could be only from Africa and be the OG species but the Asian elephant is seen throughout Asia.

    For me it’s Slugma.
    It’s never used by trainers in Johto, and it’s only available in the Kanto postgame. In Hoenn, they are very commonly found in the fiery pass, and used by many trainers. Flannery (the fire type gym leader) uses a Slugma on her team. For years I thought Slugma and Magcargo were from Hoenn, and introduced in Gen III. I also know a few think Skarmory and Natu were from Gen III also.

    Lol I like how he says in the beginning that it’s crazy for zigzagoon to have a third evolution in one region and then the rest of the video talks about how common it is for Pokémon to have evolutions from specific regions.

      @@emperorcubone well galar is where the species originated from. However the I can totally see it being plausible. In galar the environment is harsh enough to where the species required a third evolution to survive. However once exported to the hoen and other similar regions the environmental pressures allowed the species to become docile. Once it was docile it was more advantageous for the species to loose obstagoon as an evoltuion since it no longer needed it to survive. Which lead to the more docile variant being more successful everywhere else around the world except for galar.

    Maybe Zigzagoon were just simply introduced into Hoenn, evolved (dawinian wise) into different Zigzagoons without having Obstagoon due to the Hoenn region being way more tame than the Galar region, and then through human activity were introduced super recently into every other region they appear in since

    The Beldum line are meant to be from Hoenn, but are never found in Hoenn. But they are found naturally in Unova and Alola, as well as the Crown Tundra. I reckon Steven liked the Beldum line so much (he does say Beldum is his favourite Pokemon) that during his travels, he caught a Beldum and simply brought it back with him to Hoenn. As for the one he leaves the player, he either bred it specifically to give to the player, or he imported another one.
