    What an awesome video, the throat shot was outstanding!!!! Very well done. Maybe one of your best yet. I agree, maybe "dart thrower" would be best. May change that on the re-print. I have added this to a new playlist about Mubyoshi Ryu and as we go along i will add more. Well done guys. Looking forward to the next ones!

      As I said in the introduction to the video, it is an honor to be included in your adventure. I think "The Lost Samurai School, Secrets of the Mubyoshi Ryu," is your best book yet. Thank you for the high praise, and we look forward to the next few videos.

      I wonder why a school of japanese martial arts that includes ninjutsu and is verified to be real is not as well known, and fake schools with no proof of their lineage are everywhere u_u

    That arrow is actually a lot like a pommel when you think about it. One just doesn't expect it until it's too late.

    In relation to many of the books I have read on secret techniques and of the ninja, you could very well make the tsutsu uchiya look like a common flute. That way your weapon is at the ready and your opponent is completely caught off his guard. Great video.

  • @50StichesSteel

    I wonder if a sharpened bamboo arrow would penetrate better. Cut at a 45° out to the tip like a hypodermic needle. You could fill the hollow inside with lead to give it more weight. That way it still comes out of the tube smooth like a round shaft does and you have a sharpened tip...Maybe you could even cut the metal rod like that as well, but give it a steeper angle to increase the sharpness

    • @LordEldgrimr
      @LordEldgrimr 7 років тому +2

      I am going to say that your idea has some merit, with the exception that the lead would be the real weapon while the bamboo is nothing but a shell, thus leaving one with a downgraded version of what we used. If the bamboo could survive the molten lead I would say that maybe it could be a mold for the tsutsu uchiya arrow, but beyond that I think it's usefulness would be exhausted. The hypodermic point is a nifty idea for modifying the iron arrow we are using, so top marks for that suggestion.

    • @50StichesSteel
      @50StichesSteel 7 років тому

      LordEldgrimr Lead shot instead of molten lead. Say out of 12 gauge birdshot or even buckshot.. Even better the momentum may roll the shot toward the nose of the arrow at the point of throwing adding velocity and making it nose heavy.....But yeah even see8ng if it makes a difference on the arrow would be a great experiment as well! Thanks for the reply

    Since it’s a short range weapon you could delete the fletching it looks like it’s making the dart tail heavy in flight.

  • @AKlover
    @AKlover 7 років тому +2

    How heavy is the projectile? I'm guessing it has some weight to get any penetration depth.

    • @kanucks9
      @kanucks9 7 років тому

      Probable reasons:
      It's ranged, mostly useless in cqc
      You have to keep it open side up unless you either cap it (time loss uncapping and loseable) or keep the dart outside the tube (time loss loading)
      if you're not very careful when taking it out you'll throw the dart accidentally
      single use (arguably)
      Overall it's a lot like an in-between of a sling and an atl-atl, with low range.

    So I can't say I know much about japanese musical instruments, but do you suppose a weapon like this could've been disguised as say, a flute, or whatever japanese equivalent? or could they even have used a real flute for this? I can totally see this being used as an assassination weapon

    • @77jarim
      @77jarim 7 років тому +1

      Sounds very plausible. There were a lot of weapons disguised as common items. From small daggers hidden in fans, flutes and pipes to swords disguised as parasols and canes.

    • @dansherman1980
      @dansherman1980 3 роки тому

    Is there a optimal distance when throwing this weapon?

    • @LordEldgrimr
      @LordEldgrimr 7 років тому +2

      That is a good question. We originally postulated that it would most likely be used at a distance somewhere beyond sword reach, but there is still the question of maximum effective distance. Could the tsutsu uchiya be used beyond the range of a yari with any beneficial effect? That is something we should investigate later. Thank you for the inquiry!

    • @xPumaFangx
      @xPumaFangx 7 років тому

      I came to that ideal because I saw the spin of the ammo. It happens to spin like a knife or amy thrown weapon. Maybe when you do this test. Try to see how many times it spins on a normal throw. But at the same time it has fletching. So it might stop spinning at some point.
