Officially their positions are Solar: Leader, Vocal Moonbyul: Rap, Performance Wheein: Vocal, Performance Hwasa: Rap, Vocal This is how they debuted, and they still occasionally use it for intros. But no, Solar is the Leader, but not the main vocal🤷🏻.
And even then they’re incomparable since Wheein has a beautiful clear voice with really good nuanced technique not only in her (very strong) belting but also in her superbly controlled head voice and (possibly?) whistle notes while Solar has amazing power in her belt to really round out their sound and give an extra oomph to the climaxes of the song AND BOTH ARE AMAZING IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

If we're talking pure technique, solar sounds like she's pushing her chest voice up to belt the higher notes, which gives them more weight and power but also sounds more strained. wheein, on the other hand, is a lot more connected between her chest/mix/head, so the higher notes sound lighter, cleaner, and free. different techniques for different purposes. wheein has the upper hand from a classical standpoint, but they're both still killer vocals.
Rosh Lepz Wheein’s vocals in a technical stand point are actually better, so it gives her the upper hand. They are both phenomenal vocalists, with only minor things to touch on. Wheein is amazing as it it, as is Solar.

The good thing is that we do not have to choose between them, because they are part of the group MAMAMOO, which is extraordinary because it is composed of four singers whose voices and interpretations are extraordinary. The tone and versatility of the voices of these four talented singers completes in a perfect way. Interpretations are simply unforgettable. I love MAMAMOO

Wheein is more like the RNB style, the control and agility is effortlessly the best. While Solar has this huge range and sustainability, she's a tough singer. All in all, I love them both.😍
Wheein is just a natural born singer. Her pitch and ability to manipulate her voice is amazing. But Solar has such a strong voice. And I can tell that Solar has worked really hard to get to where she is now. Both are extremely talented. Two of the best female singers in kpop.

I kind of find this funny. Lol comparing them is like comparing gold with another gold but are different in form. Solar is usually belting high notes because she has a very powerful and strong vocals which is more good and impactful in belting high notes. While Wheein is more on falsetto and breathy like AG and when she hits high notes, it's heavenly but you know, powerful and strong is more suitable for belting higher notes. Solar's voice can be soft and sweet but she is more expert on belting high notes. Wheein's voice is breathy and is more expert in soft and honey-like voice. But as a vocalist, tbh, Wheein is more versatile that's why she is known as the vocal backbone. She can go from low to high notes in a second and she can be breathy and soft and then make her voice firm and strong in a second as well. Even Solar and their CEO accepts the fact that she is a very good singer. And once, solar once said that if they were a hamburger, Wheein would be the meat. She is said to be the member who can harmonize very well to all the voices of the three members so of you listen carefully to their songs, usually, her voice is the backing voice to harmonize the sounds. And don't forget the "dolphin note", she did that. Solar? No words is needed since she is well recognized by many in public while Wheein is underrated compared to her... My bias is solar I had heard them sing live a few times. Tbh wheein was born with a better voice, which will make u feel so relaxed. Like so many artist had said, wheein has very good and unique vocal. While solars vocal is very great too. But apparently, she made a lot of hard works to be able to sing the high keys and so. Its obvious that wheein can sing the high and low key more comfortable than solar. Hence, they both have good vocals, but wheeins is slightly better:) Anyways,i really appreciate solar. She is literally the most hard working, who practice the most among the 4.
It's also because Wheein started singing when she was still young while Yong only started improving her vocals during her 20s but still both of them have their own vocal colors
So Solar has more power--no surprise there. That's why she's the Main Singer in Mamamoo. That doesn't mean that some people don't prefer the quality of Wheein's voice (I'm one of those people). Wheein’s high notes definitely sound more effortless and free, where as Solar’s contain more power and they come swinging in heavier. They are both fantastic singers, part of the same group. I love all four of these MAMAMOO girls

Wheein is technically better, naturally gifted, feels the music and adjusts as to not strain her voice. Solar is naturally gifted to but utilizes a different technique that isn’t always good for her voice. Both are great vocalists, but my fav is Wheein.
solar worked hard so she could hit those high notes, while wheein was gifted. Solar has the power and wheein is like a calming wind that blows in a cold morning. They compliment each other well, thats why MAMAMOO stans are the winners here.
for someone like Wheein it's easy to get more power in belts. all she has to do is open her mouth more. make a scream with closer mouth, and then open your mouth as much as you can and see how louder your scream is. the same applies to singing.

They cannot be compared! If you take out 1 of the 2 from Mamamoo, no other singers could fill the gap. That's how 'destiny' brought them together and formed the best vocal group of all time in Kpop. There may be 5 Ailee in one group but the harmony and artistry that Mamamoo have will be second to none.
Both are good. I really enjoy Solar's belts up to C#5, despite the pushing. Above that I prefer Wheein, her tone is nicer and she sounds much less strained.

They both have lovely voices and great skills. Let’s talk about technique. From a singer’s point of view (having sung with choral groups from 4-250 members, sometimes with a symphony) I humbly share: First of all, reaching high notes takes regular practice and relaxing both mind and body. The more you relax your entire body, especially your neck, face, lips, jaw, throat, chest, shoulders, the easier air will flow for vocal cord manipuation. They both do this most of the time... until they reach a certain point where they no longer relax. Where Wheein succeeds more is in controlling power (as in force of air flow plus volume) - this is harder to achieve than full blast power. Solar’s voice can strain and distort when various muscles tense up at higher registers, though this can also happen with Wheein. The struggle starts with not warming up the vocal cords enough (it happens sometimes), eating junk food and drinking soda, milk and/or caffeine before a performance (which we’ve seen them do on MMTV), not getting enough rest (sigh), then allowing self-doubt or nervousness result in tension in the body that affects singing. They can hit those notes, but they worry about it. Solar has shown this worry when she joked about high notes in Queendom. No worries lead to more relaxed body and singing. If you have ever played drums you’ll know what I mean about power and control. It’s harder to hit a snare drum with much less force yet still be heard distinctly, like in jazz drumming style. Being able to do so also requires alot of practice. My wish for Solar is that she learns to control her power and volume and to relax more at higher registers. She’s certainly capable and just needs to be consistent.
Solar’s notes are more powerful and full/whole and consistent, while wheein is more light and thin, that’s why wheein is more soulful when singing ballad, while solar is more emotional when singing ballad. Both vacals are stable and skilled.

Umm as much as I love them, I'm gonna have to stop u there. Wheein is literally just as appreciated as all the members, or even more. She is the only member ranked in the top 5 best vocalist of seoul, and her songs chart well even when she doesn't promote. Having sang many osts and having the most collabs, she is well known by the general public, and under every mamamoo video, the comments are flooded with her name.
If you look in the comment section of the songs that are very vocally demanding Wheein is praised like at least 85% of the time lol (see "I miss you" performances). I think it would be more accurate to say that majority of people favour Wheein's vocal however in terms of overall popularity Solar beats her.

Solar has the heavier voice, and does carry more weight as she ascends. Wheein has the lighter voice, and sheds a bit more weight as she ascends. So technically, Wheein is better. But Solar is more "appealing" as it sounds more heroic than Wheein's.
My opinion is that both can hit very high notes. But as for Wheein, her voice is really special, so she often gets more lines. Solar, in the other hand, has less lines and therefore can store energy to be unleashed in high notes. At the same time, Hwasa's voice is very suitable to wash or wake your ears before they start their songs, so she is often tasked to be the first one to sing. Last but not least, Moonbyul is so cool in her rap and dance and therefore she's the performance damdang in the group. I love the fact that after a few years since their debut, there is no real fixed position for them in the group. They have grown to be able to change their roles among themselves, in case if the particular song suits someone more.
Solar's voice is very powerful and also not very high pitched. Wheein's voice is high pitched but also very clear yet powerful. This is the reason why Solar's high notes sound so dynamic. Even if she sings a high note which is not extremely high, it sounds very powerful. But wheein, in my opinion, has a better technique. Not saying Solar has a bad one. All girls of Mamamoo are talented singers :)
I appreciate anyone with techinical background in music to "educate" people on the Internet. Just please don't forget it needs more effort to deliver knowledge to people with different background and preferences. In my humble opinion after following many discussions, thinking techniques is objective or undisputable is also a part of these arguments as I see vocal coaches following different pedagogies give inconsistent opinions and preferences. Then, there are too many aspects in terms of techniques and how to give scores and weights of them and calculate an overall number to judge who is better itself is a big challenge, not to say to convince eveyone. A lot of technical terms defined in music are not as well-defined as in physical science about measurements with quantifiable units, and most of the time are related to senses, which are different from person to person. Another situation is that the instrument of each singer or the ear/brain of an audience is unique. Using the same technique requires different efforts for differnt singers so sometimes better control seems to be more fair in some situactions. An angelic voice described by an audience might not sound the same for another one since different persons have different angels in their mind. For example, Solar's voice is my ultimate bias and it really takes time for me to appreicate others' voices but their harmony are something else that I love the most. So, I found it hard to understand people saying Solar is shouting or pushing or straining as they all sound angelic, warm, sweet, and like honey in my ears and beg her to yell at me more (I am a normal pervert as Solar 🤣) For me, her techniques are the best as I feel more connected to them since she can easily manuplate my emotion to make me laugh 😆or make me cry 😭. Now, almost in the end of 2021, hope eveyone who loves Mamamoo to continue to support them and wish one day they can literally start a world tour and visit international moomoos again.
It's different between scream and singing with high notes,, also solar won't sacrifice her voice for a game,, we can see that she always relents and is not serious about doing it. Because those game really hurts their throat.

I actually don't like to compare someone with another one. Everyone has their own standard for singer and it's subjective. Like everything else, even the opinions of specialists can different from other specialists. In my opinion I think they are at the same level with different ways. They are all great vocalists. And I think they are the best singers in mamamoo with their own way. and of course someone can disagree with my opinion. I don't care of it. Because all of our opinion is just the opinion of individual. We should appreciate other's. I like wheein's delicate technique and her angelic falsetto. And I like solar's powerful belting for high note, and her ability to deliver raw emotions especially with her low register in ballad songs. I both love wheein's soft airy r&b voice and solar's clear,sometimes mature, cozzy voice which can fit every genre of music. Even their stable vocal is in diffrent perspective from other. Sometimes I think wheein's vocal is most stable and sometimes I think solar's voice is most stable with different reasons. It's like comparing flute and guitar and arguing which one is the better instrument. They all have their own style and strength... let's just stan Mamamoo the best vocal performance group. If we're talking pure technique, solar sounds like she's pushing her chest voice up to belt the higher notes, which gives them more weight and power but also sounds more strained. wheein, on the other hand, is a lot more connected between her chest/mix/head, so the higher notes sound lighter, cleaner, and free. different techniques for different purposes. wheein has the upper hand from a classical standpoint, but they're both still killer vocals.

Rosh Lepz Wheein’s vocals in a technical stand point are actually better, so it gives her the upper hand. They are both phenomenal vocalists, with only minor things to touch on. Wheein is amazing as it it, as is Solar.

Wheein is more like the RNB style, the control and agility is effortlessly the best. While Solar has this huge range and sustainability, she's a tough singer. All in all, I love them both.😍
Wheein is just a natural born singer. Her pitch and ability to manipulate her voice is amazing. But Solar has such a strong voice. And I can tell that Solar has worked really hard to get to where she is now. Both are extremely talented. Two of the best female singers in kpop.

Solar is usually belting high notes because she has a very powerful and strong vocals which is more good and impactful in belting high notes. While Wheein is more on falsetto and breathy like AG and when she hits high notes, it's heavenly but you know, powerful and strong is more suitable for belting higher notes.
Solar's voice can be soft and sweet but she is more expert on belting high notes. Wheein's voice is breathy and is more expert in soft and honey-like voice.
But as a vocalist, tbh, Wheein is more versatile that's why she is known as the vocal backbone. She can go from low to high notes in a second and she can be breathy and soft and then make her voice firm and strong in a second as well. Even Solar and their CEO accepts the fact that she is a very good singer. And once, solar once said that if they were a hamburger, Wheein would be the meat. She is said to be the member who can harmonize very well to all the voices of the three members so of you listen carefully to their songs, usually, her voice is the backing voice to harmonize the sounds.
And don't forget the "dolphin note", she did that.

Wheein has beautiful color in her voice. She can do a lot of beautiful runs. She doesn't just belt and has strong control of her voice.
Wheein's technique is better but Solar's voice is more powerful. Both have great voices, so either way u can't go wrong.

I had heard them sing live a few times. Tbh wheein was born with a better voice, which will make u feel so relaxed. Like so many artist had said, wheein has very good and unique vocal. While solars vocal is very great too. But apparently, she made a lot of hard works to be able to sing the high keys and so. Its obvious that wheein can sing the high and low key more comfortable than solar. Hence, they both have good vocals, but wheeins is slightly better:) Anyways,i really appreciate solar. She is literally the most hard working, who practice the most among the 4.

for someone like Wheein it's easy to get more power in belts. all she has to do is open her mouth more. make a scream with closer mouth, and then open your mouth as much as you can and see how louder your scream is. the same applies to singing.

They cannot be compared! If you take out 1 of the 2 from Mamamoo, no other singers could fill the gap. That's how 'destiny' brought them together and formed the best vocal group of all time in Kpop. There may be 5 Ailee in one group but the harmony and artistry that Mamamoo have will be second to none.
Both are good. I really enjoy Solar's belts up to C#5, despite the pushing. Above that I prefer Wheein, her tone is nicer and she sounds much less strained.
Solar and Wheein can both belt high notes in different styles and that's the reason why MAMAMOO really harmonize.

They both have lovely voices and great skills. Let’s talk about technique. From a singer’s point of view (having sung with choral groups from 4-250 members, sometimes with a symphony) I humbly share:
First of all, reaching high notes takes regular practice and relaxing both mind and body. The more you relax your entire body, especially your neck, face, lips, jaw, throat, chest, shoulders, the easier air will flow for vocal cord manipuation. They both do this most of the time... until they reach a certain point where they no longer relax.
Where Wheein succeeds more is in controlling power (as in force of air flow plus volume) - this is harder to achieve than full blast power. Solar’s voice can strain and distort when various muscles tense up at higher registers, though this can also happen with Wheein.
The struggle starts with not warming up the vocal cords enough (it happens sometimes), eating junk food and drinking soda, milk and/or caffeine before a performance (which we’ve seen them do on MMTV), not getting enough rest (sigh), then allowing self-doubt or nervousness result in tension in the body that affects singing. They can hit those notes, but they worry about it. Solar has shown this worry when she joked about high notes in Queendom. No worries lead to more relaxed body and singing.
If you have ever played drums you’ll know what I mean about power and control. It’s harder to hit a snare drum with much less force yet still be heard distinctly, like in jazz drumming style. Being able to do so also requires alot of practice.
My wish for Solar is that she learns to control her power and volume and to relax more at higher registers. She’s certainly capable and just needs to be consistent.

Solar’s notes are more powerful and full/whole and consistent, while wheein is more light and thin, that’s why wheein is more soulful when singing ballad, while solar is more emotional when singing ballad. Both vacals are stable and skilled.

Umm as much as I love them, I'm gonna have to stop u there. Wheein is literally just as appreciated as all the members, or even more. She is the only member ranked in the top 5 best vocalist of seoul, and her songs chart well even when she doesn't promote. Having sang many osts and having the most collabs, she is well known by the general public, and under every mamamoo video, the comments are flooded with her name.
If you look in the comment section of the songs that are very vocally demanding Wheein is praised like at least 85% of the time lol (see "I miss you" performances). I think it would be more accurate to say that majority of people favour Wheein's vocal however in terms of overall popularity Solar beats her.

So technically, Wheein is better. But Solar is more "appealing" as it sounds more heroic than Wheein's.
Yrah, I agree with you and that's why they sound so perfect when the two of them are harmonizing.
My opinion is that both can hit very high notes. But as for Wheein, her voice is really special, so she often gets more lines. Solar, in the other hand, has less lines and therefore can store energy to be unleashed in high notes.
At the same time, Hwasa's voice is very suitable to wash or wake your ears before they start their songs, so she is often tasked to be the first one to sing. Last but not least, Moonbyul is so cool in her rap and dance and therefore she's the performance damdang in the group.
I love the fact that after a few years since their debut, there is no real fixed position for them in the group. They have grown to be able to change their roles among themselves, in case if the particular song suits someone more.

Solar's voice is very powerful and also not very high pitched. Wheein's voice is high pitched but also very clear yet powerful. This is the reason why Solar's high notes sound so dynamic. Even if she sings a high note which is not extremely high, it sounds very powerful. But wheein, in my opinion, has a better technique. Not saying Solar has a bad one. All girls of Mamamoo are talented singers :)

I appreciate anyone with techinical background in music to "educate" people on the Internet. Just please don't forget it needs more effort to deliver knowledge to people with different background and preferences. In my humble opinion after following many discussions, thinking techniques is objective or undisputable is also a part of these arguments as I see vocal coaches following different pedagogies give inconsistent opinions and preferences. Then, there are too many aspects in terms of techniques and how to give scores and weights of them and calculate an overall number to judge who is better itself is a big challenge, not to say to convince eveyone. A lot of technical terms defined in music are not as well-defined as in physical science about measurements with quantifiable units, and most of the time are related to senses, which are different from person to person. Another situation is that the instrument of each singer or the ear/brain of an audience is unique. Using the same technique requires different efforts for differnt singers so sometimes better control seems to be more fair in some situactions. An angelic voice described by an audience might not sound the same for another one since different persons have different angels in their mind. For example, Solar's voice is my ultimate bias and it really takes time for me to appreicate others' voices but their harmony are something else that I love the most. So, I found it hard to understand people saying Solar is shouting or pushing or straining as they all sound angelic, warm, sweet, and like honey in my ears and beg her to yell at me more (I am a normal pervert as Solar 🤣) For me, her techniques are the best as I feel more connected to them since she can easily manuplate my emotion to make me laugh 😆or make me cry 😭. Now, almost in the end of 2021, hope eveyone who loves Mamamoo to continue to support them and wish one day they can literally start a world tour and visit international moomoos again.

I feel like sometimes Solar's power takes over lol.....not sure if that's what you mean, but I also prefer Wheein's vocal tone and quality. They are both so talented though

For someone who has a sensitive hearing, that overpowered vocal can really be a pain. So yeah, I prefer Wheein since she is more stable in controling her vocal.

MAMAMOO members can only be compared to themselves. That's what I call talent.
Wheein is a gifted type, you can see that how she effortlessly hit those notes; while Solar is effort type, thousands of practices make her sooooo powerful to hit those notes.

i think these two are good examples of talent vs skill, which honestly i didn't really get at first. but they're both really amazing vocalists - nobody can deny that, and the good thing is we don't have to pick one :)
I prefer listening to Solar’s voice, but I think Wheein is better technically. Either way they are both queens who deserve all the recognition in the world.
To be fair, they complement each other very well.
You should have showcased from A4 and more C5s and C#5s could have been nicer to show Wheein consistence. Nice video anyways 💓

I think Wheein have wider range and better technique. Especially low note and falsetto. She sounds much better than Solar. Solar sometimes a bit airy and monotone or can sound unstabe at low note.

I actually don't like to compare someone with another one. Everyone has their own standard for singer and it's subjective. Like everything else, even the opinions of specialists can different from other specialists. In my opinion I think they are at the same level with different ways. They are all great vocalists. And I think they are the best singers in mamamoo with their own way. and of course someone can disagree with my opinion. I don't care of it. Because all of our opinion is just the opinion of individual. We should appreciate other's.
I like wheein's delicate technique and her angelic falsetto. And I like solar's powerful belting for high note, and her ability to deliver raw emotions especially with her low register in ballad songs.
I both love wheein's soft airy r&b voice and solar's clear,sometimes mature, cozzy voice which can fit every genre of music.
Even their stable vocal is in diffrent perspective from other. Sometimes I think wheein's vocal is most stable and sometimes I think solar's voice is most stable with different reasons.
It's like comparing flute and guitar and arguing which one is the better instrument. They all have their own style and strength... let's just stan Mamamoo the best vocal performance group.
