Happy blessed New Year! You have accomplished a lot here in spite of hardships (poison ivy, needing to hire many different helpers, family losses, etc). You've created a wonderful new life there. I've been watching the crochet/knitting videos. I've done some in the past and tried to teach my granddaughters but no success there. I may try again to take it up again. Our garden doesn't look good. We left it in sad shape so there will be a lot of work in spring. I stopped helping my daughter when I acquired a strange eye rash/infection and was afraid to go back in the garden then. I don't know what it was and neither did the doctor. Home alone today for new years eve. They all went to a friend's house and I got to bed early. Blessings.
@@Latebloomershow If you wait till Spring then you will get better germination. But... Father spreads seeds in the fall or anytime the seeds are ready to drop. I have way too many saved seed and will be broadcasting a bunch in the spring up here in Northern PA.
We have holes in our garden & lawn also and it is Armadillo. We never had them here in SW MO 36 yrs. ago, but they have since invaded our state. They are nocturnal but I did see some out in the daytime. Our dog chased it and I never knew an Armadillo could run that fast or jump that high. It was hilarious! They dig up the lawn looking for grubs & insects. Our cat and I were coming up a steep hill on the property and there at the top was an Armadillo digging in the ground. The cat and I just stood there watching him and he was so intent on digging that he never noticed us. We finally just walked around him - he was totally oblivious! Terribly destructive. We've got 80 acres. Why can't he go dig there???? We always wonder every spring how much the soil line drops in the raised beds. We keep saying that the people in China are probably using our soil. LOL!! My horseradish jumped the planter and rooted itself in the ground beside the planter. Happy New Year! I just got over the flu now my husband has it. So, I hope we're done with illness for awhile!
Oh I do too! So many people are sick and I think it may be by design. All this mysterious fog after mysterious drones, after mysterious fires. We have to be vigilant to stay well. That is VERY depressing to think I have a bunch of those monsters down there digging. And the electric fence won't face their shell, I suspect. I don't have a dog, so the shotgun it is, I guess. Put in some birdshot, and sit out all night. With a cold front coming in? I dont' think so.
Happy New Year, Kaye, praying you have a year filled with wonderful blessings, all your goals being completed, and your channel breaking records! See you next year.❤ God bless🎉
Happy New Year! Keep an eye on your weather forecast as I think your area will get cold in a few more days. Your yard will thrive in Spring and Summer. Be encouraged. Holes may be chipmunks or gophers/voles?
Such a nice homestead you have going there Kaye. Never a dull moment when you live on the land. In NorCal it’s fire or flood with an occasional earthquake so prepping for safety is always on my mind and used often. Happy New Year! ❤
Thank you for the tour, Kaye! Looks like harsh cold weather is coming our way and yours! Glad to see all the wood you have stacked and ready! I've been trying to catch up with all the videos I've missed over Thanksgiving and Christmas! It's never-ending!
I’m glad you liked the tour, be sure to bundle up! Thank you for watching! I got very behind and channel treading water, so trying to get some new content up.
Happy New Year, Kay! There are several critters that root around looking for grubs. For instance, skunks and armadillo. I'm sure there are several others.
Happy New Year Kaye!! I always have a old coffee can filled with used motor oil and an old paint brush and brush my garden tools every fall for the winter. I bet you will be amazed at what that motor oil would do for your rusty sledge hammer!!
Our ground is primarily decomposed granite, so I am not sure what hay would look like after voles. We have voles moles and all kinds of squirrels. From looking closer, I would guess it is something eating grubs. Doesn’t look like they have disturbed the soil very much. Happiest of new years to you.
@@Latebloomershow Kaye, that is exactly the point with arborist wood chips. You do not want to mix them in ot ever have to till again . I have been layering on wood chips for about 7-8 seasons and it gets better every year. The other option is good wood chip compost if someone near you is making it.. Weed the carden beds and layer on 3-4" of wood chips. No Till. IF you ask around there may be a tree trimmer who has been dropping his chips in the same place for years and you can get som aged chips delivered which are fantastic. You can also have fresh chips dropped by you and you use them only in the walkways and isles. Anothr use of fresh is to use them as a layer in your compost piles. A layer of greens, then chips then green and when you turn the compost it all mixes together. Have you been able to get some young people willing to help you in the garden? I have not, but will try and get some this year or I have to reduce the garden. Pray Unceasingly for help and wood chip drops. Peace.
Looking lovely as always, wishing you a very Happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year Kaye!

Blessings to you, Karen. Lots of people sick in the country right now, mysterious stuff. Who knows what's coming down the pike...?
Just over-seed the meadow, let father bless it.
Yes, the question is when, now or in March?

Kaye yes your scarf is absolutely gorgeous, definitely your colours, the sunshine makes it look so warm and cosy there. 😊
Sunshine is very limited. Comes and mostly goes, but had an hour there.
Always more work than we have time for, for sure! Happy New Year and God Bless 🙏
That's for sure!
Happy New year, 2025 Kaye!❤️
Great update those holes , most likely are from an armadillo, digging earthworms
Happy New Year!!
You're looking lovely in Red...
Thanks, really it's red orange but yes definitely picks things up to wear a strong color.
Happy New Years all! Don’t forget to 👍🏼Kaye’s channel ❤
Around here Armadillos make that same kind of hole.
oh no, how to get rid of them? Pow pow?
@ yes or get the special kindneee traps people make and relocate if possible.
Looks like the homestead is all tucked in for winter. Wishes for a happy 2025.
Almost. Always more to do, and with this arctic freeze coming don't feel prepared.
Happy New Year 🎊🎇 and all the best for 2025 🎉🎆

Wonderful! IDK how long you have been following but I was in LA for 32 years! Riots, fires, earthquakes, drought, oh yeah.

what a great idea! I need to change the oil on my generator too. But, I also have oil on the shelf. I need an old paint brush.

Oh I know! Hope they weren't mature, but expect to be pulling lots of sprouts. I don't need to grow them again. I have a million seeds.
The holls could wild hogs
Do you have voles where you live? We do 🌱
Is this what hay would look like? I hope it's voles and not armadillo!!

Beautiful. What state do you live in?
Middle Tennessee, after 32 years and my small urban garden in LA.
Thank you!
Armadillo holes
THAT'S WHAT I AM AFRAID OF... never seen one here but, I figured they would show up sooner or later. What do you do about them?
Your biggest enemy is tilling, sorry but tilling and hay cover equals weeds.
What do you suggest instead? Wood chips take years to break down.
@@Latebloomershow Kaye, that is exactly the point with arborist wood chips.

moles
Oh I'd rather have moles than armadillos as some have suggested. Thanks!

DID YOU SEE THE SCARF? BEAUTIFUL!
