Duncan McCleod chatting to another immortal. Honestly, Shatner is completely convincing as someone 20/30 years younger than he is.

Keep these coming. Both of the characters Mr. Shatner and Mr. Paul played (CAPT Kirk and Duncan MacLeod) were huge influences on my life and the lives of others.

I have been in this industry all my life in some form or another. In 2015, I accepted a job offer at Fox Searchlight Pictures (because I believe they have great stories and support more "indy" voices - like Taika Waititi mocking Hitler in JOJO RABBIT that win Oscars!), then the company promoted me to big Fox and then...the Mouse ate the Fox. So, I'm at Disney in the 20th Century Studios Legal Affairs department. I do above-the-line, "A-Level" deals.
The times have indeed changed for actors and all talent working in films (regardless of if the project is for theatrical release or streaming). In addition to your acting (or directing) services, studios consider talent a PR partner in that the talent needs to have VERY LARGE and VERY ACTIVE social media accounts with millions of followers. If you don't have lots of followers...you might not even be considered for a job you're more than qualified to do.
Now, in addition to contractual obligations to attend premieres, appear on major live interviews/talk shows, talent are also contractually obligated to post a set number of social media posts promoting the project. It is in the contracts.
So, yes indeed...the times are constantly changing and those who don't understand the business of this business...well, they need to get with it or find a new line of work.
Other things talent have no idea about is how vital relationships are in the industry. Does a studio hate your agent/manager/attorney? If those relationships are bad...nothing you do as a performer is going to matter because they won't work with you. An example of an exception would be if you're best friends with the producer or director and they fight to get you on the project. Look if someone like a Ridley Scott demands you get the part, a studio is obviously not going to say no just because your agent is a jerk. They'll make it work.
(Oh, and this: Do you really think your agent treats everyone the same as they treat you - their money-maker? Of course they're nice to you!!! Do you know their relationships with everyone else in the industry? Just a point to ponder.)
So, so, so much information to consider.
    Cheers ~ Lisa

Interesting point. But I really enjoy the older black and white tv shows and really liked his work before Star Trek. What is nice about today is an actor can have more opportunities by not being pegged in theater, tv, or film. Now I think some talent can even self-start a career in their own video production or podcasts and move up just as a writer can self publish and be successful for a publisher to pick up. It is great having more open doors.

William Shatner is one of my favourite actors/ creative people. I would have loved it if he sang Rocketman when he went to space:)
