  • in this video number {269} Understanding Flyback Transformer to design SMPS. i explained what is flyback topology and how it works in buck or boost regulator technique
    in this video i explained what is flyback transformer, how it work and how to design transformer
    i am am going to calculate SMPS circuit using UC-3843. in this circuit UC1842 UC1843 UC1844 UC1845 C3842 UC3844 UC3845 MC38C42 MC38C43 MC38C44 MC38C45 MC18C42i can be used after making a slight change in VCC voltage. i will calculate all components in the UC3843 SMPS schematic, i distributed the power supply in blocks, so that it will become easy to understand. discussed how to draw a schematic circuit diagram of switch mode power supply and i explained practically. most of the smps designs buck converter, buck boost, forward, feed forward converter, half bridge full bridge converters are same just the switching topology differs. after watching this series of videos you will be able to:-

    Hello Haseeb, I watched many of your SMPS reviews and you are very dedicated to your work. This is very pleasant to learn from you.
    Would it be possible to describe the current sense circuit using the MOSFET current sense resistor and its priority over the Opto-coupler feedback circuit.
    Is it this circuit that shuts the UC-1842 when there is a short on the secondary side?

    does the flyback transformer reduces the input volatge like a normal transformer (based on the primary and secondary windings), or the voltage on the secondary is changed by changing the duty cycle in activating the primary.

      as it is a regulator, so its output is regulated in both cases. either the input voltage change OR the load is increased in output. in both cases its output is regulated by changing the duty cycle by the PWM controller ic, which is working at some specific frequency.
      if the dc rail / input voltage will decrease, OR the load increase
      the pwm controller will increase switch ON time to increase the primary current to compensate the drop.

I've noticed in your video about flyback transformer calculations that you selected a duty cicle D = .48, before to calculate it, I mean, you assumed it, but can we select an arbitrary value of D or should we calculate it and then have the calculated value?       while calculating flyback topology, we have to divide a switching cycle into 2 portions
      ON time & OFF TIME
      during ON time, the magnetic energy is stored in primary winding
      in OFF time the stored energy is transferred into the secondary windings
      (this is basic concept of flyback, that there is no output in secondary in Pulse ON time)
      so to make it DCM flyback , we have to allow some portion of ON time and OFF time as dWell time. this time is dedicated to zero the primary current (so the there should no resonant current in primary winding before new pulse which is expected in next moment) this is called discontinuous current mode flyback, to achieve DCM function we must have to slect duty cycle less than 50% and 2% out of 50% should be allowed to discharge the primary current
      to make it CCM, the duty cycle may be adjust above 50% so that the next cycle will start switching when there is current present in primary *it is called CCM*
