From my observation the father is too western-minded, which is understandable in his position being newly exposed to other culture but there’s no helping him to be open-minded because he’s more into the back in the day style of rap, hiphop, R&B etc.; he doesn’t look like the kind of person to be into the today’s generation of music at all. Of what I see, I’m sure he thinks there’s nothing better than Western Music. *THERE IS A WAY TO BE RESPECTFULLY HONEST WHEN DISLIKING SOMETHING, ITS OKAY BECAUSE KPOP ISNT FOR EVERYONE* We mature professional fans try not to force it on others because we know they’re not willing to understand it especially allot of middle-aged and elderly people (believe me it’s from experience).
It’s pretty understandable tho being a westerner and probably middle aged and seem to like more rap/rnb. I would’ve actually shown him more the k hip hop/rnb rather than bubbly pop. I’m also a kpop stan to some extent but I hate the heavy pop and cutesy concepts people gotta show stuff that they might think they’ll like because they’d probably said the same being exposed to American pop music because it’s just not their style.
He was also pretty right when he said it sounds like black music because we all know Kpop is highly influenced from western music but mixes it with their own style. I just wished he’d at least be respectful sometimes it was too much disrespect 😂
@@sonia4313 Yes it understandable but that shouldn’t be excuse to be disrespectful like that and firstly they don’t think like that about American Music because they constantly listening to it more than their own country’s music plus allot of the artists when they first start out during trainee days, they come to the States (Like LA and California) to learn more about the many different genres from top music & dance legends then as you said combine them with their own style plus it has nothing to do with black people because they’re not the only ones that do hiphop/rap music whether or not the genres through with them. So, your father’s comment about it sounding like black music is inaccurate; it’s obvious he only listens to allot of oldie generation music which means he’s one-minded stereotype thinking is stuck in the past especially at his age.* K-pop artists don’t just do pop & cutesy concepts, as you may have found out they can do much more genres and concepts from heavy hiphop/rap to EDM to retro disco to upbeat colorful to dark emotional themes depending on the song and storyline they go with continuing it throughout their albums.
*You’re somewhat right, I usually try to suggest to people new to K-pop or wanting to show their family & friends to ask them what kind of genres they normally listen to then match up with some of the kpop or khiphop music that they might like even if they don’t understand what they’re saying fully. Which is one of many appeals of Kpop, you don’t have to fully understand what they’re saying because you can feel it through their music. *SINCE YOU DONT KNOW MUCH OF THE KPOP ARTISTS THAT YOU HAVE COME ACROSS ARE MIXTURE OF DIFFERENT ASIANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, THEYRE NOT STRICTLY JUST SOUTH KOREAN - THERE’S JAPANESE, CHINESE, ASIAN-AMERICAN, CHINESE-KOREAN, THAI, ASIAN-AUSTRALIAN, ETC.* They are pretty diverse there.

LMAO THE DAD PLS 😭💀😂 HONESTLY Kpop lyrics are more deeper and meaningful than most western music. He probably didn't get the lyrics and the meaning because lyrics in Kpop when translated to English, the words they choose and how they portray it in English isn't the common, typical words being use in western lyrics, like it's more sophisticated in a way, if that makes sense. Hilarious. Kpop is still one of the funnest music genres I've ever encountered.
The more fake reactions I see people giving Kpop in the name of being "open minded" just so that they can secretly ride the money train bc they know fans will believe them and like their video (or they do it to avoid the toxic community), the more that I really appreciate both normal AND indifferent/dismissive reactions.
Direct translations for songs can be weird and for native speakers, sometimes you read translations and think...why did they go with that translation? So when your dad said some of the lyrics are "bs" (just like the US), it's kind of true (a lot of times, they will dumb it down to the basics so much for non-native speakers that it doesn't make much sense).😂 And other lyrics are just hard to understand without cultural context.
I think we forget that "POP" is short for "popular" so the music will mostly go for what is already trending. They're riding the wave not recreating the wheel.

I would definitely show them 7th sense by NCT U, some Jessi (specifically Wet, and then make sure to tell them they are both from the states lol), Money by Lisa (Dance performance or the Lili films), 4Minute, Jay Park (The Purge, Put Em Up, etc), Got7 (especially Jackson Wang might even show them Titanic), Mamamoo (something that showcases their live vocals tho so I recommend the Killing Voice for them), Bermuda Triangle by Zico-Dean-Crush, Eung Freestyle, Day6, Onewe, G-idle, and then just show them some Dean.
Your dad would probably do a lot of comparisons to be honest, but I think you should also just say that western artists don't even do hiphop or R&B like this now because it's changing (kinda, more so the r&b sounds kpop does yk gives me more 2000s vibes).

I respect the honest reaction. I go through similar kinds of responses with my parents, mostly my dad, if anything. My mom actually likes them quite a bit now getting to know them besides their music, you know? Kind of sad you cut off so many songs, especially Daechwita, but it's okay... 💜

Okay, so it was a bit difficult for me to read the lyrics in English but hear it in Korean, and it was pretty tricky to comprehend most of the song at the beginning of my journey 4 years ago (with BTS/Kpop). But honestly, I found it's just better to listen to the song first, get the vibe and only focus on its sound, and interpret what I want for how it makes me feel. Then I go on genius lyrics and read them myself as I listen to the song another time. I feel like you won't appreciate the meaning or even understand it without knowing how the artist thinks and presents their music. So, I would not believe it has anything to do with the lyrics not making sense because of the Korean language itself. But instead because translating everything into English, making it rhyme and fit the chorus, and all of that just requires a lot of work and effort that often gets lost in translation, sometimes even simplified to make it sound better because of the transition between two languages. Hence, why I watch, explain videos on certain songs afterward. My dad is convinced I know Korean by now, but it's just a matter of taking the time to actually care and not get overwhelmed because it's a different language. Plus, I think it's just fun to listen to a new song in a different language, and guess what the songs are about!

Regarding AGUST D “DAECHWITA” MV - In case you don’t know this is different form of Kpop that is known as K-Hiphop/Rap which is his main speciality that is really only genre where he can fully express himself while staying humble as Suga of BTS. The meaning behind “Agust D” ~ It’s “Suga” spelled backwards and in reverse “D T” is short for Daegu Town which is his hometown and name of an old underground rap group that he was a part of as rapper “Gloss”.
OMG MY BOY HAS COME and GONE LIKE A PRO AFTER PLACING ANTIs, HATERS and CRITICS in their place on top slaying his ARMY 👀🙀 with his hardcore swag, rapid rapping, beast mode beats & traditional tempo and visuals (PAST AGUST D vs PRESENT AGUST D) dont even get me started with the fashion. I was holding my breathe the whole time seeing him getting up from the throne walking into the palace ready to put someone in their place, bodies on the ground, 😹 Jin & Jungkook pretending to fight behind Suga, BTS members hiding in plain sight and brings a modern car into traditional korean dynasty while battling his innerself then goes into nasty slow flow rap like RM did in DDAENG. It came to the end I was literally on the edge of my seat when he was being taken what looked like he was going to get beheaded while AGUSTD is showing off his sword skills then Suga takes the gun shooting the dark side of himself like a boss 😎 I noticed he used some beats with allot of phrases that he did in their BTS comeback trailer interlude: SHADOW. When I saw the scar, I remembered how much he loves scarface and reminds me abit of scar from lion king with mortal kombat vibes. The BLACK FIGURES behind SUGA presents the fandom: ARMY, he’s basically saying goodbye to his past because he’s ready to move on to a new chapter of his life. *Daechwita is a korean form of marching music that old armies used as they marched into battle or kingly procession; his old & current self fighting for domination over his present life. During his first mixtape he makes many references on how SUGA (stage name) kills Min Yoongi which is his true identity. Now, Agust D the raw savage side kills off the king and SUGA sits down from royalty; if i’m not mistaken, last emperor of the country. The concept/theme is a traditional dynasty where the long hair is indication of wealth and Agust D shown dressed in authentic kingly garments, It was also strongly frowned upon or forbidden for anyone with scars could never be royalty but with this track & music video breaks that stereotype by having Agust D shown with a large visible vertical scar on his eye which expresses even people with scars can be royal on top of showing how powerful his presence is which reminds me of kdrama Scarlet Heart: Ryeo 4th prince where he had a scar but became king despite of it but I also remember how much Suga loves Scarface.
IN SIMPLE TERMS HE IS BASICALLY FIGHTING TO TRY STAYING HUMBLE AS A TRUE GROWING ARTIST / RAPPER by confronting his past self. Lol) who turns for a second and jungkook accidentally walks into the fishing pole that Jin is holding & they pretend to fight ... “off with their heads”, he doesn’t mean literally cutting their heads off but more or less he’s cutting their heads off with his words. Lost notes on EXO “Call Me Baby” and BTS “Louder Than Bombs”, since I don’t stan the female artists I don’t know much about them but I do like some of Noona Sunmi songs especially “Gashnia” ...
EXO “Monster” - Since I lost half my notes(thoughts) about “Monster” so in simple terms it connects to EXO storyline of a “Man’s Obsession with his Lover” or vise vera on top of battling innerselves (clones) and the red force. Since MONSTER music video was long before LOVE SHOT you will see that all nine members are present, #LayZhang is present who is upsettingly barely shown but you can see him singing & dancing. This song / MV was released alittle bit after their “LOTTO” MV if i not mistaken which is where they got caught by the red force and toward the end their rescued by Baekhyun who plays as a double spy #EXO #Monster

I have so much rnb & khiphop songs that are 🔥 other than traditional kpop these are the best in the kpop industry. the thing about the lyrics is that these youtube channels are so pressed to put out the translations as soon as the song get out that they fuck up all of it. they dont do research and it and put it up like this . a big mess without correlation. jump from one sentence to another and it's not coherent. there is big loss when it come to translating from any language to english( i would know i speak french and others languages ) so you have to be sure that it's on BANGTAN TV or BIGHIT youtube channel ; Or straight up go to the genius website while you listen to the audio. they can follow the lyrics . because BTS is really known for their lyrics and it breaks my heart everytime someone doesnt get the just of it. and of course it can be very cryptic at times but the sentences at least are coherent because greats minds wrote it. there lyrics in louder than bombs make perfect sense and it deals with mental health.
and please when your dad say somethin that is not true , can you try to correct him. so he doesnt leave the place thinking something that is not. like per example he think daechwita dont make no sense but the thing is he doesnt speak korean so he dont know. and the decor as NOTHING TO DO WITH AFRICAN CULTURE. i am 100% bron and raised and i can testify , that this is all korean culture based( or at least asian) and i think you could have told him that. so it's not his fault.
kpop is so much fun but get so much hit that to be able to show it to your family is really proof of your courage ; i just couldnt with mine. and for that i think that you really have to be prepared. like ask your fellow armies the best sites so that when people make statement you are able to respond with correct answers otherwise some of them leave having way more negative tought than positive.. trust me i have been there .

I can look over a lot of comments but to say the lyrics don't make sense is wrong. They make sense but you have to read them and understand the meaning behind it. Take bts louder than bombs, you have to re watch it over and over to fully understand it. Also like ANY language there is gonna be loose/lost translations because not every word in English will translate to a word in any other language. I'm using BTS has examples because I know them the most. Go go is a party song like JK literally says where's the party at?.
Also to take a completely Korean song and then re write it into English the lyrics would change drastically. But it makes sense if you just read the lyrics 🤷♀️
