Jim was in wrestling during the real rock and roll days when coming across a straight edge guy in the business was an uncommon occurrence. He knows there’s a difference between smoking a spliff and snorting heroin. Also it’s a nicer and more articulate thing to say than: “meltzer is desperate to stay in-touch and feels bad because they name moves after him so he finds nominal things about this cartoon wrestling that he can praise, gives them their stars, and doesn’t say anything about the lows of the match.”

I admittedly laughed at this spot, and I’m not ashamed to admit it, especially when you look at WWE still carrying on the Gobbledygooker and worse yet the 24/7 title, and even WORSE when they had Nia Jax coming out and tripping over everything, was it an ‘insult to professional wrestling’? Possibly, but people are gonna like what they like and there’s no changing that

Jim has worked with organizations that have done stuff just as dumb. Jim wants people to respect wrestling the way he does and that's never going to happen. He's going to have an aneurysm the way he gets worked up over this dumb shit.

I must admit that this does my heart good. Over the years, my son and I have met many wrestlers, and they've almost all been great. I won't even try to list all of them that were gracious, patient and humble. I do want to single out Roddy Piper as the most gracious one of all, and mention Melina, who was a sweetheart despite what I've read of her reputation. But there were two exceptions. One, very surprisingly, was Tommy Dreamer, but I can excuse that because he was quite busy trying to run a House of Hardcore event. The one I can't excuse was Chuck Taylor. He was a straight up prick. When I approached him, I mentioned that I had been following Dan Barry in a local promotion and thought, since they both did comedy on the side, that they might make an interesting tag team. I was brushed off in the snottiest, most dismissive manner, only to see, maybe a year later, the two of them doing some talk show together. Taylor looks like a clown when he comes out from the curtain, and contributes virtually nothing. So, Corny, thanks for this bitch slap, it's well deserved.

So when a company like PWG, that appears to have some sort of money behind it based on the talent they consistently use, are doing backflips and cartwheels over drawing 400 people once a month it stands to reason that JC would point out how to draw money.

    • @resop3

However, that time is not this time. There are zero territories running today. Also, why pick on Chuck Taylor? He is not a promoter. Chuck is a professional and would not have done the grenade spot unless the promoter thought it was appropriate. IIRC he didn't do it in Evolve.

Cornette is stuck in '75. I literally think if you told him Santa didn't exist, he'd actually argue with you over it. I'm suprised he knows what the internet is and what the fuk a podcast is because he sounds like someone who doesn't believe either exists and its just some conspiracy invention, conjured up by the government. Dude doesn't get it, Taylor is just plain entertaining that's all we care about...
To counter his point about Milli Vanilli. Look at the Rock when he first came out. The fans did not give 2 shits whether Rocky Maivia was a good tactical wrestler who knew the moves, his character was boring and he fizzled out quickly.
All of the sudden the Rock is born, more charismatic in the ring, talks smack, he's engaging with the crowd, shows some theatrics on top of being a decent wrestler. Was he the best from an in the ring technical standpoint?? I'm sure many would say no and who gives a fuck, I'm not gonna act like I can tell. No one tuned into the Rock for that. It was what he brought to ring as an entertainer..
I will agree with him that if Taylor doesn't have a ton of moves you'd wonder how long he would last. But he has the hardest part down, he's entertaining in the ring. You can have all kinds of talented wrestlers out there, if they are boring character wise who gives a shit if technically they are sound?
Whats harder to teach, how to technically wrestle or how to be an engaging character whose entertaining??
You can teach the wrestling, you can't teach entertaining, you either have it or you dont..

I don't need YOU to tell me what is entertaining and what is not... Fans can be entertained by whatever the fuk they want to. If you feel a technical wrestling match is your thing so be it.. Bret Hart was one the best at it. And guess what happened when he was the babyface of the WWE??? Its not a knock on Bret, its a reflection on some fans.. I'm sure since you know your history I don't need too..
