When I saw what day the funeral was on, my face fell. ("FFS!")
I'm a freelance music tutor, and it looked like I would lose about £80
As it happened, ALL of my students requested that I give them their lesson on Monday as usual, and I even had to do an extra lesson for somebody who couldn't do Tuesday! - so I made MORE money than usual on the day of the Queen's funeral!
The first student I went to, their dad gave me a sideways glance "you're not a big monarchist are you?"
"no."
"PHEW! neither am I!"
Around the corner, I went to my next student.
The previous week, I taught him how to play "God Save the Queen" on the trombone - he had been showing off to his friends and family all week ... but I got no sense that this house was "in mourning" - it was just as chaotic as usual.
The next house gave me the option of cancelling, but were all too happy to see me as usual
So - I completely agree. I think there may be a silent majority that sees the blatantly obvious - that the monarchy has no right, God given or otherwise, to rule over us - wallowing in sheer luxury just by accident of birth.

What!!! Jock Stein didn’t get a knighthood because Celtic got to many red cards. I’m a 69 year old Rangers fan and I’ve never heard so much shite in my life. I’m old enough to remember well Celtic winning the EC and Rangers reaching the final of the ECWC in 1967 and there is just no way Celtic got an excessive number of Red cards. In fact I would be happy to bet that Celtic probably got fewer sending offs than any other team in the top flight of either England or Scotland.
That was a reference to the racing club game which is true.
Ben Vair That's not really why knighthoods are awarded ., not on merit but for services rendered . Rendered to whom ? certainly not the people . If you get a knighthood you become the establishment , no longer a working-class hero . Isn't that right Sir Paul ? Never trust a knight even on the chessboard .
I find respect for the royals among working-class English is tremendously exaggerated by the navish and slavish media. Up the Republic.
Spread the love guys. The love of personal autonomy and self rule.
I've read that Corrnwall is the poorest county in England , be nice to hear what they think too .
This is the general feel for all of Scotland outwith what the media are trying to portray and Rangers fans. I can imagine most working class English people could really care less either
As a Gers fan, I don't care nor will I ever care about the English royal family.

Dead right mate, respect from Liverpool. And that was funny as fuck 👍👍🤣🤣
Immensely proud that the Scottish football fans are showing what I have always been immensely proud of about being Scottish - that we are NOT deferential to anyone, particularly those who seek to oppress and murder us. We have ALWAYS RISEN UP AGAINST TYRANNY. In contrast though, England has given up, if it ever really happened in a meaningful way in England, the English have NEVER rebelled against the TYRANNY THAT COMES FROM THE MONARCHY. Without an uprising against the royal family, there is NEVER going to be the REAL CHANGE in England that is needed. So, by remaining deferential to these oppressors, who are now openly laughing at the English population for allowing them to do what gives them the most pleasure - the crushing and mass murdering of the working class. So, there is NOT going to be an uprising against the cost of living crisis in England, despite the knowledge that MILLIONS of people are going to DIE, and that includes MILLIONS OF CHILDREN. Food banks have now been normalised in England, to the point that they have now spread to England having warm banks. The working class in England has fully capitulated to their oppressors, and it looks as though, once again, it is going to be we Scots who are showing the English how to do things and to bring about the changes that we need. I am increasingly finding out that the English are all talk and no action when it comes to demanding real change. Let's face, people who are living as though Henry VIII was still on the throne are never going to achieve the change that they say they want. Again, the English are all talk and no action and that resulted in the death of democracy and the death of the English and England.
Full & utter respect - AFC Fan.

Yes it has it seems , sad times ,
You can't shut the masses up, especially in Scotland. I agree with them. I want serious politics that will help my beautiful country to thrive for everyone that lives here and calls themselves a Scot. We don't associate with WM divisive tactics.
I started going to watch my team again over the last year; I had struggled with mental illness too badly over the last 10 years or so to go to matches. My team is Stockport County, and to my absolute despair, I’ve just realised it’s full of extreme loyalists that have a brotherhood with Rangers (which has been going on for a long time apparently). During the match against Harrogate Town on Saturday, to my disgust the vocal support at the back of the stand started singing the fucking orange flute song, along the lines of “I bought a flute for 50p and the only song that it could play was fuck the pope and the IRA”. I was so livid, I stood up and shouted at them to shut the fuck up - other people around me looked disgusted at it too, but it seems do be quite deeply ingrained. The club received loads of complaints afterwards so they issued a statement that sectarian chanting won’t be tolerated and that they’re investigating it with the intention of handing out banning orders for anyone involved, but I know for a fact they’ll do nothing; it’s gone on for years seemingly, and these lot are all openly Rangers fans as well as County fans; they’re completely confident that their behaviour will only receive minimal challenge. There’s loads of young lads that are part of it too that are just going to carry it all on for another generation, so if the club do nothing about it they’re acquiescing to being a sectarian club and I want no part of them which is a massive shame because I loved going when I was younger.
It honestly is so surreal to see young men spout sectarian rhetoric while having absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I have a young relative-in-law and he spouted rubbish like "never surrender". I know it's a Rangers slogan or something, but... what??? What does that even mean? Do they know? Most bizarre thing is that his granny is of Irish descent and is an extremely devout Catholic. I mean wtf? Aside from the brainless sectarianism, there is quite a lot of misogyny, racism and xenophobia sprinkled in. I just don't get it. I'm Irish (Wexford Abú!) living in Scotland and in work I spoke with a man who, upon hearing my accent, said he has some ancestor who is Irish. That was grand, I hear that a lot. Then on a few other occasions (usually around match day) he came in with a Rangers scarf and tried to intimidate me. What the actual-f-is going on? So bizarre.
Really sorry to hear about this. I know Celtic and FC St. Pauli have strong bonds based on shared anti-fascist ideology but I should have realised there's a much more negative side to this too.
Ha ha ha unlucky snowflake
Oh, and just for Aaron, the home of Dundee FC is Dens Park. I just know it was on the tip of his tongue.

Gotcha of the Century...
I was at the Everton West Ham match, there were a few sporadic boos from Everton fans but then West Ham fans made a hell of a lot more noise telling the first lot to shut up. The referee cut the minute silence short after about 40 seconds. When they showed it on MOTD they turned the sound off to make it sound like it was perfect silence, yet more propaganda by our state broadcaster. Both Everton and Liverpool have a lot of (most?) supporters who are not overly fond of the monarchy or the current government and are not afraid to voice it, Good!
Nice job lads.

The queen didn't renew her season ticket, which just isn't cricket.
Jock Stein actually received the CBE not the OBE after Celtic in 1967 became the first Scottish, first British and indeed the first Northern European team to win the European Cup … in a season in which it won all five senior competitions that it entered, plus the Reserve League and BBC Quizball.
This is the first time I have ever heard of that Celtic team being accused of being aggressive. I had the pleasure of watching them while a football-obsessed youngster and generally the reverse was true they were a spectacularly attractive, attacking side and were much more sinned against than sinning. In particular their outside-right the diminutive Jimmy Johnstone, one of the best wingers in the history of the sport, was frequently singled out for rough treatment.
The team couldn’t have picked up a lot of red cards in 1967 because red and yellow cards didn’t feature in football until the 1970 World Cup tournament in Mexico.
Until then, when a player was cautioned his (it was almost entirely a male-only sport at the time unfortunately) name was put into the referee’s notebook, hence he was “booked”. To send a player off the referee pointed to the dressing room.
Celtic’s chairman of the time Robert Kelly was knighted, for services to football, in the New Year’s Honours List in 1969.

@@gordonstoddart6886 Well, I think originally they signed him - as a player - from Welsh football (Llanelli, perhaps?)
I think he became captain of Celtic and may have been captain when they won the Coronation Cup, beating Man Utd in the semi-final and Hibs in the final a wee while after the late monarch first took on her role.
He was part of the Celtic coaching system before becoming manager of Dunfermline before then indeed going to Hibs as manager for about a year before returning to Celtic.
But, yes, taking several of the Hibs players in the late 1880s probably left something to be desired.
@Delta 1 Absolutely! Of the 11 players who played in the 1967 European Cup Final 10 were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park and all of them within 30 miles.
Between 1967 and 1972 Stein’s Celtic team won the European Cup once, were runners-up once, contested the semi-finals three times (going through to the final twice and going out on penalties on the other occasion) and contested the quarter-finals five times. They also reached the semi-final of the Cup-Winners Cup in 1966.
They also won the Scottish League nine times in a row when it was very competitive with several excellent teams including Rangers, Hibs and Dunfermline who also did well in Europe.
