Hello! The bottom part is 100 percent an original wehrmacht ww2 mess kit bottom. The lid appears to be a Romanian one! Have an amazing week and keep buying the surplus gear!!!!!
I've got one very similar, I got mine in Germany around five years ago. The one main difference with mine is, it actually contains a bottle in the middle. Absolutely brilliant bit of kit.
Mat Broadway Jr Hi, yes they're great sets! 👍 Sounds like you may have the Swedish mess kit? I have one and it had a fuel bottle and alcohol stove with it, does yours have a sliding hook on the main pot handle? Thanks for watching, all the best Roo
Prepared Camping Thanks for the reply Roo, mine is different to the Swedish set. I have looked at them but have heard mixed reviews. Mine is called a Bundeswehr mess kit. The bottle inside is made of some sort of metal and looks similar to shape of a US army bottle.
Cool, love surplus gear! Sets like this one have been around since 1910 so they're built to last The Swedish set is good as it has the nesting windshield for the alcohol burner which could also be used to contain a small wood fire if necessary but isn't as comfortable mounted on a belt as its oval not kidney shaped Take care Roo
Prepared Camping This is where some people make school boy errors. They don't trust or even try some of the older things that are available. Things that have been used for years but unfortunately don't have a certain name don't even get a look in. I see a lot of people spending huge amounts of money on Bear Grylls items for example, when they can get the same item without the name for a fraction of the price.
i have an austrian kit looks very much like the same one very good bits of kit great video. also the lid is made not to lock onto the bottom of the pot
There are lots of kits for several nations that are very similar because its such a great design Geoff 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, all the best Roo
Borderline Wild Camping Hi thank you for watching and the kind comment I shouldn't a shiny brand new one for a proper review I guess but I love a military surplus bargain and couldn't not buy this I've got the Swedish set too which I bought at the same time, and yeah that's also excellent! Take care mate Roo
Well you got a good deal there when you bought it and it is hard to tell if that is german or some other east state countries. The polish looks very similar to that one you have and there are other countries who have similar shapes on their mess kits. So i have to agree with you and a great video as well .
I recently bought a similar one, has never been used. Appears pretty much the same as as the WWII M31, even has a steel pan handle. However no markings so no real way of saying its WWII or post war.
Nice they're great bits of kit regardless of age, they were supposed to be stamped but who knows I'm sure some probably weren't Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment really appreciate it buddy All the best Roo
@@PreparedCamping yes they are my favorites, have all sorts of others and always end up using the M31's. You are welcome and keep up your interesting content.
If you wanted to you could remove it by uncoiling the wire from the welded on loops but it was not intended to be removable Thanks for watching hope you havea great weekend All the best Roo
@@PreparedCamping Thankyou mate and yeah I thought that might be the case I just thought for packing purposes if I used a coilable piece of wire instead it may be a better option for me. Thanks for your reply and keep up the good work. :)
where do you find all these military kits? I've seen that you got Yugoslavian, Czech and now German...is it expensive? I'd like to purchase some British stuff
Most towns here in the UK have military surplus stores and considering how tough the gear is it's usually cheap as it's old army gear Lots of these stores also sell online and ship anywhere but it's best to see in person first if you can to check the condition Google where you live there's probably a store near you... Take care mate Roo
@@PreparedCamping Thanks dude! I will probably purchase it online, because I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is rare to find something like this here in my country. Peace✌
@@NixonBushcraft I've got a Yugoslavian mess kit too that I think the Serbs continued to make that's very good has a 1 litre plastic canteen that fits inside it, there should be many of them near you Take care mate Roo
Hahahaha. I've watch LOTS of mess kit videos and you are the first one that found a new task a mess kit can perform, Beer Time for sure! Cheers.
Where there's a will there's a way brother 😉 🍻

What do the markings on the lid say? I believe this to be a genuine wartime M31. If it isn't it is a post war Austrian type.
Hi thanks for watching, this kit is marked "AEMIA 41" but I'm afraid I don't know the coding for these things
