LOL my cousin and I grew up in that neighborhood and skating that school we definitely weren't the first people to wax those curb ledges but we kept it going from the late 90s to early 2000s before moving away from the area. Pretty sure that school was built in like the early 1900s so probably every generation of skater in FW have skated it. Built a lot of confidence on that 3 stair. Cool to see it here!

John, I’m not sure if you tried this yet, you probably have. You should put your go pro clips along side your stationary clips. Would be a cool effect, seeing the same trick from different angles at the same time. Just an idea

Hey John I’ve been watching since before your success on UA-cam on and off till now. I know you posted a video recently about depression and I see how different your facial expressions were back then and now. I kind of feel the same way you do in an aspect, like you’re not good enough or have the urge to do more because you don’t think you’re doing just enough or don’t know the meaning or purpose of your life. I try to get by day by day and just push myself. I’ve recently started skating consistently since the beginning of 2022, I’ve been progressing in skating and trying to get better at filming and posting my personal projects here and there. I just want to say thank you and I look up to you and enjoy your videos and list of tricks you film for us constantly every week. I pray you find the meaning in life and have that happy face you had once back in the day 🙏🏾

Come live in the Northern Territory in australia, normally 70-80 percent humid and it’s an average of 32 degrees Celsius. Actually impossible to skate. Night time doesn’t get any better. 😔

Grinding on a granite piece kinda is the equivalent of say a satin paint finish , because it’s raw and textured but at the same time a measured smoothness and has that "finished" look without being cheap and slick looking, that’s what it feels like to grind / slide on granite, raw, but smooth and controlled .

It’s interesting to hear you say that muscle memory is usually best first try. I feel that way about my kickflips. If I can’t get one within like 10 tries, then I just get worse the more I try to grind one out.

Growing up in West Texas, pretty much every skate spot I had as a kid was like that school. Rough af. The concrete was just as rough as that, if not worse, and you could guarantee asphalt was just totally unskatable. I shudder when I think about how badly we ripped our hands open on a regular basis.

Do you ever truly get comfortable with switch/nollie in general?
There's a few tricks to me that feel normal/easy-ish switch/nollie, but other ones feel so unnatural, that sometimes I cant even get them to pop lol. I've been skating for around 18 years, and I find it strange how comfortable I am with certain switch/nollie tricks, but how others feel beyond impossible, and super unnatural. Does it feel more normal with practice, or will it always kinda feel weird?

Pop shuvs be my favorite trick. The key to getting them popped and consistent is to scoop them back to front instead of side to side. It’s hard to get used to it at first but it well get them like Tiago popped and easier to land straight everytime.

When I was a kid coming up skating, street was it. That's all we had. There were no skateparks. It was just terrible black top and even worse curbs and curbstops. I didn't drop in on a transition until I was 41 and got back into skating, haha. I guess that's what skating will always be to me. Out and about, trying whatever you can on whatever you can find. I'm with you, haha!
