First video card review! Let me know what you think. All benchmarks were at the max settings for the games. This unit is fast, but is not able to fully stretch out since it hit it thermal limits.
Just installed my 3090 FTW3 Ultra yesterday. My case has excellent airflow, but even with a very aggressive custom fan curve (up to 100% at 72 C) the card is reaching high 70s - low 80s. This is at 71 F ambient with only the power limit raised to 107%. My results sound similar to yours then. Please let me know if you figure out anything to help remedy this. I was worried I got a dud or something because a lot of other reviews show much lower temps and speak of how quiet the card is. Mine is definitely not quiet at all having to run the fans that high.
I feel that all the reviews did it on open air setups. I installed this in a open air case and I get high 60s with an overclock. So my case is not good for this card. You could do a repaste.
@@CETechTips Good point about the open air setup. I changed my case fans from being CPU temperature dependent to being tied to the GPU and that seems to have helped by about 5-7 C. Will continue to tinker and report back any findings. Thanks for the reply :-)
@@CETechTips Just a quick update, played some games tonight and highest temp was 66 C. I changed nothing other than updating to the newest Windows 20H2 update yesterday. Color me perplexed but I hope it stays this way. Haha
I've just got one ! But I wasn't expecting the 3x8pins - My video output stops after a few minutes into window. Could it be because I'm une 1x8pins cable and another one taht splits into 2x8pins to power it instead of having 3 distinct cables runing from the power supply ? Cool video btw I'm subscribing :p !
I managed to buy TWO 3090FTW3. I sold one off to my cousin and I kept the first. Microcenter gets shipments more regularly now. The card is so huge it barely fit my PC case. It runs like a dream.
Hey man, have you been able to solve the high temperature problem ? I recently got a 3080ti FTW3 and even at stock settings i was hitting around 85-87c in Warzone. My case is a lian li O11 with three intake fans under the card and the rest are exhaust so that shouldn’t be the problem.
this gpu is an absolut stunner, well I'm considering to purchase rtx 3090 for high end gaming, but I'm still not sure whether to choose Strix OC or this FTW3 Ultra, I'll put waterblock on it and oc later so what I'm concerned about is rather the build quality and power delivery than the look. What do you think CE Tech Tips which should I go for ? Thank you in advance
I saw someone that also did a tear down and replaced some thermal pads and the main chips' paste with kryonaut thermal paste. There were essentially no difference in temps.
@@CETechTips The new one sits at 68c under load. Massive improvement. Thank God they have good customer service because they seem to be having some QC issues. The first one was ramping to 83c and downclocking within about 5 minutes.

Getting mine tomorrow! So excited to start pushing limits. Did you do an over clock?
Yes it performs really well. Able to keep the temp in check as well.
5:33 looks like your video card is rendering the desktop in vertical mode to match the install 😂
Haha, no doubt!

I can't install mine idk if it's going in right and the power what if you don't have the last wire
You need all the PCI-E cables for it to work. You may need a bigger power supply.
What's better Aus Rog strix 3090 or this Evga 3090?
I think they are about the same, I kept the ROG myself.
So how do you get your promotions code. is it inside those paper ?
If you are referring to the included game, it is usually on the receipt depending on the retailer.
@@CETechTips That make sense. Thanks for the reply.

Both these cards are top of the line. I ended up selecting the ROG Strix personally.
What case is that?
It is the Silverstone TJ11, it is really old, but has loads of space.
I saw someone that also did a tear down and replaced some thermal pads and the main chips' paste with kryonaut thermal paste. There were essentially no difference in temps.
I hoping that I just have bad contact then.
No difference after the paste. Hmm, I'll look at voltages next.
Hey man nice video as always ! im just wondering if you are willing to review some eluktronics laptops , thanks for the good content , keep it up!
Thanks, glad you liked it. I am just having trouble with sourcing right now. They are on my list though.
Dam will you be doing reviews on amd 6000 series? I want to see the real comparison before I pick one
Sure will, if I can get my hands on one!
Evga gpu better then asus?
I would say they are pretty comparable to each other. More design preference.
I ran into the same thing. Not comfortable repasting an $1800 card so I'm waiting for my replacement.
Interesting, let me know how your second card is. I just got a second card and it is much better, by 20C. Sitting at mid 70s with a mild overclock.
