Everyone is satisfied with İzmir's female bus drivers

İZMİR - Although the start of female bus drivers in İzmir was met with surprise at first, the citizens said that they were pleased with the politeness of the female drivers and their compliance with the traffic rules.
In İzmir, where the urban traffic is intense, the era of female drivers has started in the buses that serve in public transportation belonging to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. In the surveys conducted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, where 148 female bus drivers work, women came to the fore. While more than 10 thousand surveys were conducted on buses used by female drivers, 74 percent of the citizens gave a positive opinion.
Saying that she has been working as a bus driver for about 4 years, Sibel Doğan said, “I set out so that everyone should do what they love. I also love to drive. When I saw such an ad, I wanted to apply. I get very positive reactions from people. All satisfied. There are even those who want all drivers to be women,” she said.
Stating that his family was very surprised by his decision to become a bus driver, Doğan said, “My family has been very supportive of me. It is seen as a difficult profession, but I love my job. I love it more and more each day. That's why I don't have any difficulties,” she said.
“I dreamed of being a driver without getting into the fuel”
Gülfer Afyonlu, who stated that she loves her profession,
“I love driving. People should do what they love. I always dreamed of being a car driver without getting involved in fuel and tax. Indeed it did. At first, my mother was against it, but apart from that, my family was always supportive. Right now, my mother is still nervous because I am always on the road. The first person who gets into our vehicle is surprised and says, 'Look at the female driver'. It's gotten used to this situation now, she, there are even those who say, 'Let's continue with the female driver,' she said.
“Small vehicle started to feel like a toy”
Nagihan Bişgin, who said that he started this business because he likes to drive big vehicles, said, “My wife has been my biggest supporter. In fact, he was the one who saw the first female driver and told me. After getting off the big vehicle, the small vehicle started to feel like a toy. Because it's eye-catching. After I started working, I realized that it was actually much easier to use the bus. Citizens in İzmir got used to us, but those coming from outside the city are still surprised.”
Citizens are satisfied
Citizens traveling on buses used by female drivers said that they were satisfied with the situation. Citizens who said that the female drivers were very polite and obeyed the traffic rules said, “We are proud when we see them. It is something that befits a Turkish woman,” she said.
