    Isaac Florentine has got an actual martial arts background and even opened one of his own karate schools. Sometimes it takes a legitimately trained martial artist to know how to present a martial artist properly on screen.

    Directors such as Chris Nolan should swallow their pride and let guys like Florentine handle the shooting of fighting scenes.

    • @Grandmastergav86
      @Grandmastergav86 5 років тому +9

      He's not the action choreographer though, he works closely with the stars and stunt team. He knows how to shoot and edit action but he needs a strong team around him.

      @@Grandmastergav86 In behind the scenes of Batman Begins there were some amazing fighting choreography. Too bad the the director f*cked it up and hid it all away with shaky cam, too close zoom-ins, bad camera positioning and choppy editing. Even Bruce Lee would have looked mediocre if Chris Nolan was the one directing the camerawork.

    • @TheLukeMonster
      @TheLukeMonster 5 років тому +8

      @@danfors1333 Agreed. To be fair, though, even if Nolan actually were humble, wise and open-minded enough to hire a pro like Florentine to direct the action scenes, Florentine would then have the thankless job of trying to make Nolan's regulars (Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and so on) look like able fighters despite the fact that they utterly pale in comparison to Florentine's regulars like Scott Adkins, Tim Man and what have you.

    • @billmurray7676
      @billmurray7676 5 років тому +8

      @@danfors1333 Nolan didn't fuck it up, it was by design. He is a visual director, so the scene by the containers in Batman Begins is very different from the Batman/Bane fight scene in the finale of the third film because they tell completely different stories.
      The first one was the introduction of the Batman, a guy who fights darkness with darkness and fear with fear : a clean Yip Man style action scene wouldn't have worked because that's not the character and that's not the story.

    • @doublep1980
      @doublep1980 5 років тому +8

      @@billmurray7676 Nolan is an other wise amazing director,but he sucks donkey cock when it comes to shooting fight scenes,fact.
      The final fight between Batman and Bane in TDKR is one of the worst choreographed and edited fights ever.
      That was pathetic to watch.
      He should have done what Zack Snyder did, hire the 87Eleven Action Design Team (the stunt team of the John Wick creators) and let them do all the hand-to-hand combat action.Snyder is maybe a hack,who never understood Batman as a character,but in terms of portraying Batman's fighting abillities,his movie is the only one who gets it right.

    So awesome to see a Florentine video. I've loved the guy's stuff ever since 2000. He made a flick called "US Seals 2" which is among my top 10 most watched movies of all time. He's definitely improved since then, but that flick made me notice him. It's not good. It's really kinda bad and goofy and tonally pretty much all over the map. But the action scenes were fucking nuts, and the stunts were insane. He's got the same sort of rhythm to his action sequences that Jackie Chan has in his. It's like there's a tempo and a pulse to them. I've watched everything he's made since. He deserves to be listed among the best action directors out there right now.
    I've been dying to see him get a bigger project with a big budget and a wide theatrical release so he could get some general audience attention.

    Isaac Florentine is hands down the best fight scene director.
    He knows how to film an action fight so you see the full motion of a kick etc without cutting to something else which i absolutly love!
    .Its like film fighting was filmed in the 80's especially in many Van Damme movies.
    Movie makers of today could learn from this!
    often their fights are cutted so fast that sometimes you sit what just happende there? who hit who with what?
    .Taken 2 is a good excaple of how not to edit action scenes.

    I saw both Undisputed (2 & 3) and The Sheperd : Border Patrol (with JCVD).
    And I loved those movies essentially because of how good to great the action was shoot. And at that time, I did not realized that the director of those 3 movies was the same, Isaac Florentine. Hell, even though The Sheperd isn't a good movie even by a "B series" standards, you can watch it for the action and actually enjoy it.
    Isaac Florentine can do a lot with little budget, kinda like Albert Pyunn back in the days, and that's the mark of a respectable director to me.
