They were influenced by Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, and other black blues artist from the south. Listen to their first album and from their 3rd album, Since I Been Loving You. They took blues music and cranked it up and made it heavy.
You said they have Robert Johnson as an influence. Listen to "Trampled Underfoot." It's inspired by the Johnson song Terraplane Blues. Sounds nothing like it but the lyrics are both about comparing a woman to a car. And I think Zeppelin even said they got the idea for their song from that song. Preferably live. Or, try, "In My Time of Dying", off of the same album, Physical Graffiti, to hear Zeppelin do some Gospel like stuff. Preferably Live. Or, Since "Ive Been Loving You," their most Bluesy song. MUST be done live.
@@AnxietyActorlive at Madison Square Gardens (1973). Also live at Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of In My Time Of Dying, this date has the best visuals & audio, it’s an old gospel song. Two great blues songs studio versions are You Shook Me & Tea For One. Yes these guys love the blues, as young teens, they couldn’t wait for new blues records to come to England. Their first 2 albums are more bluesy, with other albums having blues influences. These guys do blues with soulful love & passion. The drummer John Bonham also loved Jazz & R&B, each are the GOATS of their crafts, & The GODS Of MUSIC. Oh You Shook Me has 3 great solos of keyboards harmonica guitar, & great vocals & drums. Thank you for your reaction, & I hope you dive down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole.
You could bet anything... They were serious blues enthusiasts... especially Robert the singer... In fact The British music invasion of America in the 60's bought Blues back into the mainstream American charts out of the niche chart that is was in... Everyone in Britain accepted these guys... even the folk rock guys. The Stones, in the press conferences, when they first came over to America name checked all guys that had influenced them, Like Little Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley etc, etc, etc.
First time watching, just subbed! Before I became a musician, Zep and many of my 3 older sibs favorite groups, Were my influence, along with my parent's music. (Where was I going?)😊 "Name your favorite song, artist, album..." are u serious 🙂 Peace

These guys and the Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton, all sent me down the Robert Johnson trail, and a lot of Bands had Blues Greats open for them, so they could be heard by a wider range of people, Love in Vain, by the stones is the one that sent me down the Blues Rabbit hole, and a lot of bands starting , letting them open for them so they could grab some of the white audiences, that's how i got to see Freddy KIng, he was so good i do not remember who he opened for.
well, blues is just a part of their vast repertoire, my friend.. and they have done various types of blues they also did folk, punk, pop ballad, metal, funk, r&b, acoustics, progressive, reggae, and samba.. yes, you heard me, reggae & samba.. but in zep style of course all in just a decade, which ended when their legendary drummer died
Greetings from Canada. Not only Robert Johnson, but Blind Willie Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Memphis Minnie, Kansas Joe McCoy and Sam Cooke. (Edit afterthought) They actually do two Robert Johnson tunes- Trampled Under Foot (RJ's Terraplane Blues) and Travellin' Riverside Blues. Enjoy!

✌🏾 😃 thank you
Trampled Under Foot live is just stone cold.
I learned late in my life that three of my favorite / best rock drummers were all "JAZZ based" - John Bonham / Bill Ward / Neal Peart
Dig down that hole.. gotta know Zep, no matter musical preference due to their excellence!! xo
