  • How China vs Taiwan Will Go Down
It's one of the greatest geopolitical issues of modern history, the Taiwan Question. Today, we're going to see how a worst-case scenario may go down, if war finally breaks out between the two.

    Several historical errors:
    1. It's Qing(清) (pronounced Ching) Dynasty, not King Dynasty.
    2. It was Ming Dynasty's war lord, who kicked out the Dutch. Then Qing Empire fought another war to unify Taiwan by defeating the son of this war lord.
    3. After the first Sino-Japanese war, Taiwan was annexed by Japan until 1945 when Japan was defeated, to be reunified with mainland.

bro the Chinese were not colonizers in any meaningful way. The way of life for people all over China during the great Qing was the same. Everyone was a peasant made to serve the empire but the empire itself was a puppet for the European colonial powers and it was them who set the way for Taiwan being a part of China. The Chinese didn't send expeditions to Taiwan to gather up free labor, the Chinese people there WERE the free labor along with indigenous population. Although Taiwan would geopolitically be a part of Qing, it was still essentially controlled by Dutch and Portuguese business. It was the KMT under Chiang Kai Sheik that conducted mass violence against the indigenous people, nearly wiping them out in the process.

Exactly. For the Allies to successfully take beaches on Normandy, it required massive misdirection campaign, boatloads of luck, a distracted and spread thin Germany (though they were still experienced, battle hardened and formidable). Then it required literally THE LARGEST WAR FLOTILLA EVER ASSEMBLED. Like size of Greeks heading to Troy but instead of ships with 50 to 100 men, it was WWII destroyers cruisers and heavy personnel carriers.
That flotilla was compiled from THE most powerful nation on Earth and several of its powerful, experienced, battle-hardened close allies that had virtually complete trust with one another.
Even with that kind of invasion force, even with many different potential landing sights for Germany to defend, it still took an inhuman effort for our boys to establish a beachhead and knock out nearby coastal defenses.
China is like a kung fu black belt that has never been in a real fight.
      "Pot don't hit back".
US is like a gaggle of Green Berets, backed by rangers, delta force, and a deep cover Seal Team 6, further backed by a division of crayon-eating marines.
Oh, we'l get a black eye. But that doesn't stop a Green Beret.

Not even the turf of allied forces would bring enough to sway that disadvantage since it's too far for airplanes to regularly patrol and barely enough for some missiles.

While the video is good on history, it's quite naïve when it comes to diplomatic and military. For one, stock pile missiles against China? China can produce more drones and missiles than rest of the world combined, at a cheaper price too. When it comes to war of attrition, nothing will even come close. Also you are still imaging WWIII be fought in WWII style, carriers will be the battleships in WWII, and there won't be bloody Omaha beach as much as you want it. Biggest question here is this: will US be willing to send their troops to die in a war so far away from home?
Just becasue China is number 2 does not mean that, the conflict being so close to their home, it will not inflict tremendous casualties to the US forces that try to intervene.
But my opinion is that the China is being patient, they will wait until US is either so weak or so tied up with something else that it cannot intervene if they wanted.
As for Japan, it will only wage war if attacked. Their constitution is forbidding them to wage any kind of offensive war.
But in the end, that war is very hard to happen because unlike Ukraine that war will see world hit with such economic recession that countries will be bankrupt and civil wars will rage everywhere.

The US can easily engage any attempted Chinese invasion from a distance without the need to deploy ground troops. Systems like US submarines, stealth fighters and rapid dragon would decimate Chinas invasion fleet. The US has bases all over the area and a highly capable air refueling fleet. Any beachhead made by China would be immediately outnumbered by Taiwanese ground forces and China would struggle to reinforce and supply there troops while being attacked by the US. Chinas military would be devastated attempting it.

  • @danwelterweight4137
    @danwelterweight4137 6 місяців тому +3

So many things wrong with this video.
    Starting by the history.
Taiwan became part of China during the dying days of the Ming Dynasty during the 1600s when the remnants of the Ming Dynasty escaped to the Island set up base against the newly established Manchus led Qing Dynasty from the Mainland.
The Qing Dynasty then invaded Taiwan and established its rule there in the mid to late 1600.
Japan attacked China and took Taiwan by force in 1895.
In 1945 Japan agreed to give Taiwan back to China in a treaty.
KMT lost the civil war in the Mainland and run away to Taiwan.
It claimed to be the legitimate government of all of China and Taiwan for decades.
Taiwan's own constitution states that Taiwan is a part of China.
If you called for Taiwan's independence up just a few decades ago you would be arrested and probably even killed by the government in Taiwan.
Taiwan's passports birth certificate, money, banks, universities all have the word China written them or the word China in their names.
Even Taiwan's military is named after China.
Taiwan's government used to represent the whole of China in the UN security council up until 1972.
Under Taiwan's own constitution all Chinese in the Mainland are a part of it the ROC and are under the jurisdiction of the ROC.
The claim that Taiwan is an independent country from Mainland is nonsense.
Taiwan will never be independent from China.
If China goes to war over Taiwan it will mobilize its entire industrial capacity into full scale war production to outmanufacture anyone in warships z drones, warplanes weapons and ammunition into oblivion.
China will mobilize tens of millions of men into the PLA.
And China will be backed by Russia's massive raw materials and natural resources.
Not even the United States together with all its allies will be able to stop that.
You will not be able to out manufacture China in weapons, and raise a bigger armed forces than China.
    Taiwan is an island.
It can easily be blockaded and starved from fuel, supplies and food.
    It is futile.
Furthermore if the US gets into a war with China over Taiwan and attacks Mainland China the Chinese have the capability to bomb the US and its major cities to rubble.
There is way for victory here.

A coalition of nations would come to Taiwan's aid. Both military and economic assistance would be abundantly supplied to Taiwan. The U.S., Japan, South Korea, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, India, Germany, France, etc., all would, in some way or another, support Taiwan in warding off the CCP. It would look bleak initially for Taiwan, but with due time, the tides would turn heavily toward Taiwan. As he said in the video, the Taiwanese wouldn't sit ideally by but would fight viciously against their aggressors. The Chinese mainland economy and military would be devastated, and the eventual collapse of the CCP would soon follow. The PRC knows this, so they will continue to poster and bluff, but I doubt they will ever take this risk. If they do, it won't end well for them.

The profits from these off-shored factories are already flowing back to Japan while the design work for the finished products remain inside the Japanese home islands. Meanwhile, Japan's armed forces are growing stronger and are becoming inter-operative with both the US, the Philippines, and Australia so they are a potent deterrent at blocking any Chinese naval or airpower attempts to expand beyond the First Island Chain that blocks China from the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Countries faced with invasion typically get a morale boost for defending their home, and this gets amplified by how much "worse off" they'd be if the invaders ruled them.

    This has some serious inaccuracies.
The first is that China is gaining on the US economically.
Their economy is collapsing right now.
They are quickly going back to the Mau era which destroyed their economy and wiped out millions in their own country.
Another problem is with missile defense batteries.
They are becoming more and more ineffective as we saw with the Iron Dome recently.
Defense missiles have to have expensive guidance systems that make them extremely cost ineffective when you can swarm them with cheap missiles or drones.
While I’m sure Taiwanese missile defenses are very good it’s been a recent shift in weapons technology in the past couple years making them much less effective than before.
China’s military though large and somewhat modernized is more of a projection of power rather than an effective fighting force.
It’s run by CCP members who are corrupt and inept which is an understatement and They regularly purge competent leaders to avoid a coupes.
The other elephant in the room is the Three Gorges Dam which if destroyed would wipe out a huge amount of their population and break them as a nation in every conceivable way and it’s in range of Taiwan missiles.
It would flood likely 40% of China killing millions, inducing famine and economic collapse on a scale like no one’s ever seen before.
They like attacking it to Armageddon because the Chinese would likely respond with nuclear weapons if the US or an ally destroyed it.
The problem is that if Taiwan were invaded what would hold them back from destroying it?
    That’s the premise of MAD.
    Mutually assured destruction

Taiwan should invest in its navy, particularly its submarine and coastal defence force. I bet no admiral in any nation's navy will dare to conduct amphibious assault when the area of operation is probably protected by standard diesel electric submarines, small diesel electric submarines, and coastal defence platforms. That's why it is very important for Taiwan to consider the acquisition of numerous small diesel electric submarines as a supplement to their submarine force.

Singapore was also part of Malaysia from 1963 to 1965. However, it later separated from Malaysia and became an independent nation.
Singapore and Taiwan are recognized as separate states, with their own presidents. They have established their own independent identity and governance systems.

    Quick Summary
    * Think North and South Korea.
One of the two has an unmandated communist authoritarian political system, a lot of poverty and repression with widespread corruption; a small, rapidly dwindling middle class but too many ridiculously wealthy communist overlords.
The other is Taiwan, a jewel in the Taiwan Strait. It's a wonderfully successful, normal country. 'Normal' in the sense that it has an outstandingly vibrant liberal Democracy with 5 times greater per capita wealth, their own president and government of course, own currency, defence forces and a warmer more open and welcoming culture than their neighbour. Basically, there's no comparison.
Taiwan is independent in all but name and has certainly never been governed by Chinese communists (or any communists, fortunately). Taiwanese are no fools. They guard their functional independence as you would. A typical Taiwanese is as unlikely to envy China as South Koreans are of envying North Koreans.

Second most powerful country - ON PAPER!
I raise you one Russia, who claimed to be the second most powerful country themselves and who can't even conquer Ukraine ATM (and have lost most of their experienced soldiers - so the guys who would train the next generation! - trying!)...sure China has better maintained weapons and more decently modern ones, too (still not on the level of NATO countries or Taiwan - why? Because China is still 20 years or so behind! Their current carrier-aircraft the Shenyang J-15 is a badly copied soviet aircraft - sure with more modern avionics, but with a worse engine! The original aircraft (which China owns, they bought it when they bought the carrier they now operate as the Liaoning!) has more thrust! That's why China's bad copy can either launch with full armament or with a full fuel load and that's just one example! Hell, those super powerfull hypersonic missiles? They are good to attack bases, but not to sink ships at range - because hypersonic flight renders the missile blind and deaf, because of the heat! Those things get hotter than an SR-71 Blackbird and that aircraft got over 50 Centimeters longer - so the heat was warping the metal - during flight and it was/is slower than a hypersonic missile!)...not to mention that China uses Russian command structure (so no independent thought, no taking action yourself, no innitiative! If you take out the leaders you'll sow confusion! Unlike with modern forces, where the smaller units can run independently!)
ps: China's stealth fighter (which they claim is a fifth generation fighter jet!) was easily seen on regular radar (so it has a radar-crossection that in no way protects it from an F-22 oder F-35 or even an F-16 getting a weapons lock at range!)

I would point out that while China does have a much larger military, they can not bring all of it attack Taiwan
For one thing India would love for China to leave its western borders undefended
Tibet would also be thrilled to see Chinese troops leaving
That also doesn't start to touch on the fact that China uses its military to keep its population in check
China is an authoritarian state and all authoritarian states have one thing in common
The belief of the population that if they don't go along the audocratic rule the military will make them
Without a strong military presence authoritarian rulers rarely last long
The video makes the point that China would have to take Taiwan quick, to avoid the United States and its allies coming to Taiwans aid before they can take it
The problem with that is that countries like the United States would spend weeks taking out anti-aircraft and anti-ship weaponry before actually attacking
China doesn't have the luxury of being able to telegraph their intent for that long
China has more ships than the United States right now, but half the tonnage
China is rapidly building ships in hope that they can land enough troops in short order on Taiwan despite heavy loses from anti-ship weaponry fired from the Taiwan itself

@@kodiak9840 "Taiwan" can mean the R.O.C. (minus its territorial pretensions), Taiwan Island, or Taiwan province. (America's Taiwan Relations Act has yet another definition: Taiwan Island plus the Pescadores Islands.)
But people in the West refer to Taiwan (almost) synonymously with the Republic of China. Nesstor01 is following this convention, as is the narrator of this video.
If Taiwan = R.O.C., and an island of the R.O.C. is 1.2 miles from Communist China, then yes: part of Taiwan is 1.2 miles from China.

China has a vast rocket force, including hypersonic missiles and "carrier killers." This will keep America's carrier battle groups far away from China and Taiwan.

nah, they will post up somewhere east of Taiwan and avoid China's coast where all those spiffy weapons you talk about are
In a straight up naval battle China doesn't stand a chance against the United States
All their ships are smaller and less useful
Their aircraft carriers are not nuclear and carry half as many planes
And the same goes for their submarines
China has more ships, but half the tonnage of the United States Navy and virtually no deep water resupply vessels
They are toast on open water and their carriers will have to return to dock regularly to refuel
