If you buy the right third party shells from decent companies they’re way better then the original shells. I love the gba sp modding scene these days. Two companies currently make amazing shells, and the screens they have these days are beautiful. I find the ghosting on the original ags 101 screen to be unplayable after using the high quality IPS kits. I’m not as familiar with the ds lite scene currently. But give it some years and the better companies will start producing them as ds lites get older and more people want to repair them.
not the case for nintendo ds, you can't buy shells that are better than oem original. I've to sellers on aliexpress and there is currently only one company in all of china they can source from.
The SD card for downloading games probably refers to using an R4 card. It's a DS card that allows you to insert a micro SD card that contains games you have downloaded. It is not really legal, which is why you may not have heard of it. But it definitely works.
It is legal ... being a priate isn't tho ... but u could legally play a game by doing that if u own the game and dump the rom ... or if u made the game ... and no downloading games u own isn't legal. (I do it anyway with games I don't own there's no risk enless your distributing them police don't care even if your caught red handed) the reason why u can't download a game u own is because it's still pirated material even if it's free your benefiting someone not named Nintendo... with ad revenue ..
The easy way to determine if the gba cartridge is fake is to check if there are any numbers stamped into the label on the cartridge. Another way to know is if you see a circular chip through a transparent gba cartridge, that's a battery and not a legit chip.
Fake copies are getting harder to distinguish so the only way to know it's legit is that stamp on the label. Everything else can look authentic and it's still fake.
@@justin_wayne_elrod_jrod there's a really easy way of finding out if its legit or not just look at the back of the cartridge real one has 4 gold squares on back of the motherboard fake just has alot of small little golden dots everywhere
It looked like you were trying really hard to make it seem like both the console and game were fake, and they turned out to be legitimate. The title even says the console is fake when its not. Its just reshelled/refurbished
My story time: in 2010 I bought one of these on ebay without realizing it was fake, it came from Hong Kong. I was replacing my ds that had a broken hinge, well the screen on this hk ds broke within a few days because they just put it in the fake box (that was scanned from a real box) in a bubble mailer and shipped it across the world. In 2018 I sent them both to a friend who's repaired a bunch of ds'es to put the hk ds shell on the original ds since it was still working, except the hinge. He told me this: everything inside the hk ds looked counterfeit except for the motherboard. The battery was fake and after these years had actually puffed up and was dangerous. the speakers had given out, but a screw was stripped (I never touched it) and would be a lot more effort to fix because the amplifier/ headphone port still got music so he left it alone, I never played with the sound on anyway so I didn't care. You could tell the font on the buttons was different as well. And the ds came in a weird color, it was black matte with a glossy pink top, I don't think Nintendo ever made that, but to clueless me I thought it was am overseas exclusive which was why I was drawn to it as a replacement in the first place. If you were to crack open one of these side by side with a real one it'd be interesting stuff. Also the stylus it came with didn't say nintendo, it was like one letter off. Hope yall enjoyed my little personal experience with these.
Yes, it's not a permanent screen protector. But it is a temporary "screen protector" meant to protect the screen before being opened. Which is why I took it off.
@@sgcs I mean it looks pretty crappy. Any real system I've ever bought that had a protector like that sat in such a way that you could take it off, but also so that it looked uniform to the screen. It looks like someone just used some scissors to cut it then stuck it on
Definitely a re-purposed re-shelled console from Japanese eWaste (top-right corner definitely shows that this console originated from Japan). Nintendo Lite, like Wii you took, are being sold for junk for litterally 100JPY ( One US Dollar ). It is then easy to make profit years after on storage. Paying more than 20$ for this is a complete rip-off for me.
Technically, it's brand-new. Since they produce it from the ground up, it's a brand-new console. But, I get what you're saying. And I also enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work, Jacob!
@@Alexander_l322 It wasn't used. And it was sealed. As you could see, Jacob had to remove stickers/screen protectors. The console was essentially brand-new. The seller didn't say brand-new from Nintendo Japan, but a brand-new Nintendo DS.

@@Alexander_l322 well he is right though. I once had a DS system in this exact color but was built by a sub division of Nintendo. That was 12 years ago and of course device warranty. That's what he means law wise. Insurance. So really you just got schooled noob
Yeah just dumb that they call these brand new lol. I mean, I guess if the seller is somehow still manufacturing the motherboards then it's brand new... (Not likely but I wouldn't put anything past those wish sellers...)
Yeah, definitely fake pokemon cart, I bought a full set of the GBA games for less than one genuine carts, they play okay, and look fun on the retro shelf.
A good indicator for the real GBA games is the numerical imprint on the label - I've never actually seen any fakes with that - but that's not saying they don't exist.
One thing I learned ages ago is if you look at the pins area on the cartridge of a gba game you can see on the board there is Nintendo written on it. Something fakes don't have.
This dude getting pressed about the screen protectors and the film to protect from fingerprints has me dead 😂 like bro it’s meant to be taken off it’s not that big a deal

Great video pal, love the great videos you are posting every day, hope we can see more fake fishy stuff in the future Saludos desde Costa Rica, pura vida!
To collectors it's definitely a big difference but to someone just wanting to enjoy the game, it's the same thing lol. And nowadays, I am more likely to buy a reproduction simply bc of how much they are charging for the original releases.
So its fake like what it's not a real game it's a reproduction cart of a real game so it's like a 10 dollar thing on the repo market legit is like 80 to 100.
I bought a Ds from Aliexpress but they specifically said it was a Refurb so i did expect some weird things here and there. The only problem with the console i had until now was the dpad, it's to register diagonals, other than that, it's fine.
Unless the seller has figured out a way to manufacture the motherboards (I know thats unlikely, but I wouldn't put anything past these wish sellers). And honestly, the factory that made the DS is probably the same factory making this one lol
The reason that wish cannot have quality customer service is because they're not as big as eBay, and they don't have the ability to discouraged scams and submission. Hundreds of old types of scams are perfectly viable on wish and other platforms. It originally was a great place to sell wholesale goods for less than other places but that just has a low quality variety that originally gave it a cheap feel, for items that did show up. So hopefully more than half of sellers are good but if pretty much all we should do is remove seller's eventually then your boned if you spend your money on the wrong thing.
How bout no since he’s doing it for clickbait…….”I bought a “FAKE” ds” LMAO. The ds isn’t fake it’s just damaged and had a cover replacement it’s a legitimate thing believe it or not that’s why it’s called REPLACEMENT.
The wii you got from wish was a real wii, the wii was jailbreaked, reason why games wouldnt work on the wii is because the wii is region locked and you need to get the games set for that region
That's because it is real, it just has a aftermarket shell on it. There's like 50 designs you can get from like alibaba. Motherboard is legit Nintendo.
To tell if it is real just look through the case in the top right corner of the label and see if it has a battery and if it does and your still not sure, open it up and look for a very small rectangular rtc chip in the top left of the pcb on the front side.
Bought same one with same color as the reviewer use, back in 2010 on ebay (price for like $130 so quite expensive, but believed it was the real deal for a month). I had no reference how a real (an official) DSlite would be and also had no idea it existed DS that worked same as an official DS that early. Anyway, a month of use the small rubber thing around the shell started to fell of which was the first indication something was odd, and like 6 month of use the top screen started to flicker, and later stop working due to the screen cable inside was almost teared apart. Much later when I bought a real DSi and compared DSi with "DSlite", the later had a more thin plastic which make it lighter, but also 'squeezy' when using, like squeeze it to death. But yeah, it work the same as the official DS, but it wont last long. So not recommended.
My ds lite is still working except for minor issues there's no cover for the GBA slot (cause I bought it second hand for cheap) and I broke the hinge so yeah still working thou the sound kinda cut off cause probably the broken hinge is messing with the sound I dunno anyways if I use a headset/earphone the sound is fine
Got one preowned in amazing condition, and found a legitimate copy of Pokémon emerald on offer up for a total of 50 bucks. I feel like the luckiest man alive for some reason
It's natural for GBA games to stick out of the DS Lite. I don't know why Nintendo did that as they managed to make them go all the way in on the original DS which was the same size
The Nintendo DS Lite was slightly smaller than the 2004 DS as to appeal to a more casual audience as well as trying to make it more pocketable, whereas the '04 DS looked more like a big toy. But with the smaller form came the limitation of not being able to use certain accessories that require the GBA pak slot due to the Lite being smaller. That's why the GBA games stick out on the Lite.
As I worked on the Nintendo DS lites team to make DS lites !!! The red and black DS is legit and real I can tail and the reason you think the Nintendo logo on the back is a little off is because it was one of the first DS lites And your other DS was a newer one that came out later also it has a serial number on the back of the one that was fake which is legit a new housing shells don’t have serial numbers
Not a fake console just a reshell, also the box it was put in was the same box aftermarket shells come in. That copy of FireRed is definitely a repro though so that I'll give you for "fake"
I don't understand how this video got so many views. Clearly this guy has no idea what he is talking about and does not know the marketing price of a ds lite at this time clearly this guy does not know electronics from before his time.
For $70 so you could still make profit on a DS, and if there was still new stock lying around I don't think it would be sold for that price but if it's bounced around quite a bit unopened then the price would go down a bit.
Re-shelled or not, it's still pretty good. I wouldn't complain about it, because even if it's not super legit...God I wish I was lucky enough to get this, I miss this system..gotta get it again sometime

ExtremeRate ds lite shells look great

@lilwoodiewood3457 it isnt illegal everywhere 🤣
The easy way to determine if the gba cartridge is fake is to check if there are any numbers stamped into the label on the cartridge. Another way to know is if you see a circular chip through a transparent gba cartridge, that's a battery and not a legit chip.
Fake copies are getting harder to distinguish so the only way to know it's legit is that stamp on the label. Everything else can look authentic and it's still fake.
Well if that gba game does have the chip in the corner then you know it's a fake
Well, that's original DS Lite "guts" in aftermarket shell. This housing, however, looks even cheaper than one you can find on AliExpress.
Yeah, the housing was bad. The top was bulging up some
My story time: in 2010 I bought one of these on ebay without realizing it was fake, it came from Hong Kong.
4:10 its not a screen protector lol, its just some plastic you are meant to take off.
Yes, it's not a permanent screen protector. But it is a temporary "screen protector" meant to protect the screen before being opened. Which is why I took it off.
@@jrob0021 ye but you shouldnt complain that its not perfect with the screen, it would be harder to take it off then.
I mean, I guess it depends on what you define as brand new
@@Alexander_l322 It wasn't used. And it was sealed. As you could see, Jacob had to remove stickers/screen protectors. The console was essentially brand-new. The seller didn't say brand-new from Nintendo Japan, but a brand-new Nintendo DS.
@@Alexander_l322 You don't understand. It's not USED since it's been built entirely from the ground up as a NEW ITEM. There's no such thing as a FAKE BOX since they NEVER SAID they sell a brand new Nintendo DS made by Nintendo themselves. If you fail to understand this, it's not my problem.
Law-wise, they are 100% covered.
@@Alexander_l322 well he is right though. I once had a DS system in this exact color but was built by a sub division of Nintendo. That was 12 years ago and of course device warranty. That's what he means law wise. Insurance. So really you just got schooled noob

You can tell if a Nintendo ads game is fake bc it does not have the Big rectangle on the top right corner
As far as I know those chinese DS are refurb (reshelled) they sell them on Ali Express (properly advertised)
Yeah just dumb that they call these brand new lol. I mean, I guess if the seller is somehow still manufacturing the motherboards then it's brand new... (Not likely but I wouldn't put anything past those wish sellers...)
Yeah they also do this to psp's with the box included but it comes with a bunch of pirated psp games in the memory stick
I know someone who payed $200 for a red ds lite on Amazon with 2 fake pokemon games
Yeah, definitely fake pokemon cart, I bought a full set of the GBA games for less than one genuine carts, they play okay, and look fun on the retro shelf.
This one is a pretty good replica, it would hold up to casual scrutiny unless you knew what to look for. Most fakes don’t look real at all.
fake ones are usually good tbh
It also seems like the top screen is a bit thicker on the fake DS lite.
Definitely

@@jrob0021 Bro I didn't think you'd actually respond! Cool! :D
Tip: Never Buy Consoles From stores that have consoles like this DS

There is some multi-carts that use the ds slot which have an sd card adaptor with built in games, so that's probably what they were referring to when they said there an sd card included, with some built in games.
Ah ok, makes sense
Yep its an r4 card basically its a D's cartridge that has an SD card slot
Not built in. R4 cards are full of games you compile yourself into the card

hwhat?
Why? Please explain
the pokemon was real
the cart was definitely a repro, but the rom was the same
To collectors it's definitely a big difference but to someone just wanting to enjoy the game, it's the same thing lol. And nowadays, I am more likely to buy a reproduction simply bc of how much they are charging for the original releases.
If you don't know what you're talking about, you shouldn't say anything.
So its fake like what it's not a real game it's a reproduction cart of a real game so it's like a 10 dollar thing on the repo market legit is like 80 to 100.
Funny is that, that the DS Lite I have right now and it work perfectly on most of my DS games (included R4) and I still like it so far.
I bought a Ds from Aliexpress but they specifically said it was a Refurb so i did expect some weird things here and there. The only problem with the console i had until now was the dpad, it's to register diagonals, other than that, it's fine.
getting mine on thursday, hopefully it goes well :)

Just fast forward to the end. Then go back to bypass ads. It's NOT a fake DS lite. Has a new shell kit. NEXT.
This is great they literally just took a Nintendo DS lite And put all brand new generic and fake parts on it
They refurbished it because it used to be broken , they did a good job
Just like how stangeparts built his s8 and other gadgets by visiting Chinese markets.
6:10 yeah thats normal. In the DS lite gba cartridges stick out, but not in the normal DS
It's a reshelled DSL. Tech is original, housing is not.
Unless the seller has figured out a way to manufacture the motherboards (I know thats unlikely, but I wouldn't put anything past these wish sellers). And honestly, the factory that made the DS is probably the same factory making this one lol
You got a hell of a deal. Its refurbed and a free gem of a game

That fake DS looks like my old sister DS li- ooooohh wait a minute?!?!????!!!!
To tell if it is real just look through the case in the top right corner of the label and see if it has a battery and if it does and your still not sure, open it up and look for a very small rectangular rtc chip in the top left of the pcb on the front side.
Thought bro said "looks oddly like the weed that I bought"
This is a great reshell for the price, if you link the wish post you bought it from I'll subscribe
It's not allowed to link wish stuff on UA-cam, back from when wish videos were extremely popular and wish started sponsoring everyone.
You should take these apart and see if they used real hardware or something different
So not recommended.
the dsi is not the dslite
sounds like a refurbished product to me, that's most likely the reason why it didn't last as long as a product fresh from the factory would have.
The fire red cartridge was real
It does look bad, but I can respect these sort of refurb has the protectors on it for shipping is rather nice in general.
It really doesn't look bad.
I paid for worse shells..
you can tell the fake font on the "o" from Nintendo at the back of the DS, that's one good way to tell fake repros from Nintendo, hope it helps.
seems kinda good to me actually man gg
I Can confirm the game and the console are real, the DS Lite is reshelled
Nah that firered isn’t real. A legit copy doesn’t have all the dots on the back of the PCB.
Lol you don't know what you're talking about... sit down
The SD card on some Nintendo handled games are inside the console, under the bottom backshell of the console, so in any case now you know!
Just for the New 3DS upwards
that 0.1% knowing it’s not fake
I have my DS lite here with me. EVERY INCH OF THIS THING IS THE SAME!!!!
Bro, dont complain, just enjoy, makes videos 10 times more fun
The sd card slot thing is most likely referring to an R4 which uses SD cards to store .nds files to then play on the DS properly
It's definitely just a refurbished ds lite.
*Wish my DS Lite still worked…i turned it into a GBA and i use my 3DS for DS games*
My ds lite is still working except for minor issues there's no cover for the GBA slot (cause I bought it second hand for cheap) and I broke the hinge so yeah still working thou the sound kinda cut off cause probably the broken hinge is messing with the sound I dunno anyways if I use a headset/earphone the sound is fine
watch in the plug of the fire red game and watch if it says nintendo 2002
When I saw the thumbnail and title I thought it was a dummy DS, like it looked like a DS but completely unusable, it was never sold in stores.
The way you determine a fake pokemon gameboy game is if it has the RTC battery in it, if it doesn't have one it's fake.
Looks like a refurbished ds lite with the cheapest top/bottom shell
He gives me duesh chills
Not a fake console just a reshell, also the box it was put in was the same box aftermarket shells come in. That copy of FireRed is definitely a repro though so that I'll give you for "fake"
Open the game card, if the board has a nintendo logo it, it will be real
I can See the Nintendo logo inside that DS so its not fake. The fake one are mostly a DS + chinese menu + Emulators.
