Looking back on the later years of his era it's very interesting to see how similar they are to the beginning of the new series. You can see the influences of the New Adventures but there's a lot in common between them. If I remember right RTD actually brought The Curse of Fenric with him when he was pitching a revival to the BBC.
Until 1987, 6 men had played Doctor Who. You could argue that all six of them were born to play the Doctor. But Sylvester McCoy was the first Doctor born to play a human the rest of the time.
3:20 It took me ages to realise that the odd pairing of Tegan and Ace was perhaps because they were both companions that had non-amicable partings with The Doctor, one onscreen, on offscreen.
That was a short but great interview. Gotta love Sylvester for always being an awesome sport. As for "getting the Doctors back"... I don't know how to feel about that based on the current state of affairs. Chibnall did really well with that tho.
Hope you enjoyed the interview guys. I interviewed him in Ipswich in the UK around 20 years ago at a convention. He is such a kind man and amazingly funny, he told me so many stories and anecdotes and even made me a coffee.
1:14 I saw another interview were he said it was the bit where 'Sophie was in a tank of water and it nearly exploded and she would have been hurt but I got her out in time and was very proud of myself'. But I guess that wasn't actually broadcast in an episode.
Two words: Mel’s introduction. WE STILL HAVEN’T HAD ONE. We’ve had the character of Mel make such a big reappearance lately, it would be a crying shame not to plug the gap - offscreen or with CGI trickery onscreen - to actually tell us in primary canon how it was that the Doctor met Mel. The Flux season even had a ton of tantalising clues for the return of the Valeyard - and the wonderful Michael Jayston was still with us, and even appearing in a spate of Blu-ray extras! That particular opportunity has passed sadly. As Colin Baker said, we still haven’t cashed out that investment - and the timing was right, around the 13th Doctor, and bigeneration, and the Doctor in “therapy”. So what with Sylvester and Mel being rather visible lately, it makes me all the more anxious to cash out.
Huge congrats guys this one has gone viral. Its everywhere we even covered it on our humble Detox show....which by way Conor...have you cooled on appearing? All good if you have. Still love ya mate👍
Still working through the classic series but would love if they use tales of the tardis to try and explain potential one off spin off stories for previous doctors. It might make that bi-generation explanation, not better, but atleast not wasted.
i didnt even realise there was a event in brisbane but i guess modern dr who has put me off the current fan sites. oh well. have met Sylvester before years ago in brisbane. it was a Pleasure.
My 17yo and I just watched Remembrance on the weekend, and in particular talked about the cafe / ripples scene. It is so iconic, and I love that Sylvester thinks so fondly of it. I had not realised how contemporary the issue was at the time, coming from Australia (not that we're without racial issues!), so it's even more important knowing that it was written at such a time. To anyone who says that Doctor Who has "gone woke" - I say they don't know Doctor Who at all, and need to open their eyes, and think really hard about exactly what the Doctor would do...
The so called Race Riots happened 6 years before this episode, so was hardly headline stuff. It also has nothing to do with the wider population as it was mainly black youths against the police. I'm not doubting there would be skirmishes between certain factions but the Race Riots sounds too all encompassing.
Making it canon that Ace left the Doctor because they fell out was a pretty lame exit story after all the wild and crazy character arcs and development that 7 and Ace got in extended media.
They should get Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Peter Davidson back to do animated Doctor Who story. I would say Tom Baker as well but he is probably to old to come back.
If Peter Davison , Colin baker or Sylvester McCoy turned up on the Current Version of Doctor Who they would far outshine what we have today in Ncuti Gatwa
@@anthonyfrew1571 How did we know that aliens aren't more emotional. Look what happened when Colin Baker played the Dr as cold and unemotional. Wasn't a great success with the viewers
Ironic really because RTD and his "mob" stated quite clearly that the fans of the show were no longer wanted or needed and they would be replaced tenfold by todays cult of the message.......then low and behold once the cult of the message had chased all the fans away, they then themselves did not watch the show.......so i get a chuckle out of that fact, and now here comes RTD with his tail between his legs begging to get the old fans back........oh dear. Lol
Wow, this was a cringy almost inhuman interview, so much stepping on him at almost every oppertune moment to do so & almost dismissive acknowledgements of his responses. Just a wall of questions & basically no actual conversation, I hate things like this, especially with actors I adore. Christ if I could've interviewed him, well, there's a dream.
They'll only be back to try and elevate the current bag of concrete that is playing the Doctor. Who is even watching this show nowadays? It died after Twice Upon A Time
It's funny. For me Sylvester McCoy was why Doctor Who went into hiatus and, for many years, I blamed him for the loss. I speak as somone who has been a Whovian since before the term was coined. I have watched Doctor Who since the first season aired in Australia and always loved the show. NOW I see him for what he was then (and still is now) the actor who was struggling against Time (appropriate for the Doctor) and crappy plots. I remember that it seemed to be a show that had finally run out of steam, especially after the false start of the Movie with Paul McGann. I've since seen McCoy in several episodes and now think him a worthy Doctor. This interview confirms my change of heart
Sylvester is the only Doctor, who did the classic series, the tv movie, and the reboot series, and big finish audio, all those formats.
Great point
technically yeah
Very true.
@@SmallvillenerdTwonot technically. Actually!
And he's still crap.
His doctor and Ace were such a great team! shame it got shortened
So hope he’s returns as the doctor ! People probably forget he was in The Hobbit trilogy, where again he was fantastic in that too !

My favourite original Doctor. Would have loved to see a scene with both 7 and 12
Oh I love him 😩❤️❤️❤️ his doctor was absolutely adorable
Love Sylvester he was a great doctor one of my favourite’s brought a good balance of comic and calculating doctor .
I'd love to see Sylvester McCoy as the present Doctor ...
Crazy
Sylvester McCoy is SUCH a lovely gentleman 😀
Brilliant doctor, hated him as a kid in 80s , loved him in 2000s, now my favourite doctor ever.

His wit is still very quick. Great little interview, lads.
Thank you 🫡

A lovely, hilarious man! Sounds like your time with him was just as memorable 💛💛
@50DoctorPodcast he was so generous with his time, hence we had a coffee break and carried on. A true entertainer.
I loved his cameo in Power of the Daleks. I really want them to make the Tales of TARDIS available worldwide though
Not only that...

Battlefield Season 26 - outtake
Part of it was broadcast! You can see the cracked tank in the episode
Great interview! thank you.
Wow Wow Wow! One of my favourites Drs ❤
Did Sylvester McCoy accidentally confirm that Russell's headcanon about every doctor bigenerating is going to come to fruition?
Great bloke
GOAT 🙏
I kinda like Sylvester's new goatee.
Because he's the GOAT

Legends all round!

They should have brought back Ace in RTD 1 era. And far more Mcgann in 2013. All these classic returns came much too late.
I click on a Doctor Who link and i See a KETH t-shirt and I click like!
Watch the Rab C. Nesbitt episode with him in it if you want a Scottish culture shock

Such as the Bertie Bassett one? No thanks.
I think the writers need to remember -that the Doctor is an Allien - he or indeed she must be slightly removed - a little less emotional - less crying

Seriously,if they want to bring back earlier Doctors, they should just recast most of them.
Only if they did it respectfully and with actors who can bring the roles the respect they deserve.
@JoelGrant-yo8b Yes, but that should go without saying.
They'd have to, given that all the first 3 Doctors are dead.
@richallenxbox1976 Indeed
And Tom Baker has retired from all but audio work.
They'll only be back to try and elevate the current bag of concrete that is playing the Doctor. Who is even watching this show nowadays? It died after Twice Upon A Time
It's a travesty what who has become now, such a shame, the show was fantastic back in the day.
Oh come on they're ancient. And Russel T Davies and Chibnal are so desperate to erase the past so they can make their own "diverse" version.
Worst doctor ever. Mumble mumble mumble mumble Ayceeee!
I would love to see him take on the role of Hercule Poirot, but time is running out on that one. He would make a magnificent Poirot though.
