Some people know how strong they are and what can happen if they lose their temper so they hold back. That's not weakness, that is strength.

I knew a girl back in 1990 that did what this one did in the bar. Her boyfriend got knocked out as he was a teenager, and the guy that did it was in his early 20s. He walked off, saying, "I don't hit chick's". Avoid lippy women that run their mouths to get their guys in fights.

Because they know we can't smack them to shut them up, that's why. If we were allowed to discipline them, i assure you they would not behave the way they do.

My ex-wife was this way, I was gentle with her and avoided unnecessary connotations. The Marine Corps taught me the discipline to choose my battles, or a Special Court Martial did....

The main thought that came to my mind was that if she was so put out by any of these incidents, why didn't she say something? Why is she always pushing him into conflicts? Because she is a horrible, mean-spirited person and appears to be bit of a head-case. He did extremely well to keep a modicum of control and walk away.

There are a Lot of petty Small Men out there who'll do stupid shit to make THEMSELVES feel BIG. Real Men can spot these Asshats immediately and NEVER give them what they want...UNLESS THEY NEED TO BE. Understand?

An excellent story, though I do have to say I don't see how the way he shut her down was "with style." With assertiveness, sure. You might even call it with "aplomb" - whatever that means. Or, you could say it was "with the strength she'd been looking for but never truly saw." But "style"? Not sure that's what I'd have called it. Style would've been something like him letting out a sigh before saying "I've told you time & again that I pick what I'm willing to fight for. And now, it seems, it is no longer worth fighting for this relationship. Good evening to you all." in a calm voice while giving everybody seated at their table a small bow & THEN leaving the bar.
THAT would have shown some style! In MY opinion, anyway.

A real man isn't afraid of being called a coward.
Never provoke a man who is tightly controlled to the point of losing control ; once he loses it, he may do far more than is warranted. Is having a joke at his expense worth losing your life over?
Yeah, 99% of the time he'll stop short of that, but I'm not inclined to play You Bet Your Life with someone trying to suppress his anger issues.
"Never draw unless you're prepared to kill." implies prudence, not cowardice.
Chances are your partner won't attack you for repeatedly humiliating you, just throw the trash out and find a classier partner. But isn't it easier to just leave if that's what you want?

Drunk French guy at a party slapped my face because he thought I was chatting up a French girl he liked. Girl was going out with an English friend and I was married and not a cheater.
He tried several more times and I blocked him each time, then said 'try once more and you are going down'. He quit.
I went outside to have smoke and my friend (the one going out with the girl) came out and said 'why didn't you smash him, I would have' - I said 'You see my hands are shaking? you think that's fear? You are not drunk, you try slapping me and find out why I am shaking' He went quiet then said 'I forget you are Irish sometimes' ....

@@patrickkelly6691 You don't need to be Irish to lose control in a fight and do more damage than you intended. An Adrenalin rush makes precisely metered retaliation difficult if not impossible. My compliments on your self control.
