@Лев Давидович Троцкий it was a bittersweet victory for the soviets. sure, politically a few imaginary lines were redrawn, but it was militarily an absolute loss
While I appreciate the thought, this song is either from the 19th century or from the very start of the 20th century. It's not a "Winter War" song. This is more apparent in the complete version of this song, which has several extra stanzas. There you can find really archaic loanwords like "pajunetti" from the Swedish word "bajonett" (bayonet). There were no "crown troops" in Finland after 1917. In the case of this song, the people they are singing about are either people drafted by the Swedish before 1809, Finnish volunteers to the Finnish Guards Rifle Battalion (you were considered "asevelvollinen", "obligated to bear arms" if you volunteered) or people drafted between 1902 and 1904 by Russia into the Russian military as a part of their russification campaign. In addition, "välskäri" does not mean "flashlight" but rather a field-surgeon. It's loaned from the swedish term "fältskär", field surgery.

@@yurikozhokin8348 Yes, I know, I have a Finnish background, but the Finns were more marked by the Russian occupation and the wars against them. I am not a specialist about the Swedish occupation, but I think Sweden was not really considered as an hostile power, that the occupation was going quite well, and that the Finnish identity is also defined by the Swedish and Scandinavian influence (a bit like the Romans for the Gauls or the French for the English, considering Swedish was the language of the Finnish elites, the Finnish writing with Agricola, the Scandinavian cross etc.) Sweden has brought Christian culture (so including the Greco-Roman culture). I don't say that the Russian occupation was horrible and totally bad, Finland had a quite great autonomy until the period of Russification, and Russian culture has also influenced Finland a bit. I would say that the Swedish are considered as brothers, as a country that helps to "civilize" the indigenous Finnish people, and the Russians as the hereditary enemy. But the diplomatic and buffer country talents Finland had to develop during the Cold War are until today very interesting, in my opinion Finland must remain a buffer country between the Western world and Russia, and it would be disastrous (and useless) for the region if Finland joined NATO.
