How Greed Changed Sriracha's Flavor

- Sriracha - that beautifully red hot sauce made of red jalapenos, garlic, and vinegar from Huy Fong foods has become not only a culinary but also a pop culture icon and staple on the tables of millions of people throughout the world. However, deep within its bottle is a story of greed and corruption that ultimately changed the flavor of Sriracha. Explore the people behind the hot sauce.

Please explain how a dragon is "racist" that doesn't make any damn sense.
Yeah, not a racist label. Save your juice for real racism.
Microaggressions = racism. Pick up a book
It's defy cultural appropiation imo. But hey we not Asian, so he has a different poverty of things
@@nomanejane5766 you must have forgot all of the other ancient civilizations who also had dragons in their lore. Why do people think asians are the only ones who had stories of dragons LMAO

Same with aunt Jemima
How is a dragon racist? WTF? Costco has 2pks of the Original Underwood Farms' Pepper Sauce for a great price! You also left out the fact that Tran took the recipe for Sri Ratcha Sauce from Thais, originating in Sri Ratcha, Thailand. He has been a snake all along.
Thailand Sri racha is the OG

I’m actually from Sriracha in Thailand and can say the Thai version is better. Age old story, the “sister in law/ mistress “ blew him in many ways
Thanks for you comment 😂😂😂
I've watched a different UA-cam video about your town and your more original sriracha hot sauces. I gotta visit!
Underwood's Shirachha is the real deal now.
After the shortage of Sriracha, the taste was not the same. One day, i bought the Underwood twin pack Sriracha, absolute love it and remind me of the old Sriracha.
I will be buying Dragon Sriracha chili from here on out...
I think that may be the right move too.
Likewise. An asian girl I follow on here did a vid 4 months back on the flavor change. She preferred the dragon.

What’s slightly racist about the bottle? Stop bringing up race card…we just wanna know if it taste good. 🤦♂️
Then tell me what dragons has to do with sriracha sauce without bringing up race.
@@PatternsofBehavior I think you might be over-thinking that one. It's a dragon bro. Dragons are not exclusive to asians. I think it was marketing. Sriracha was primarily an asian hot sauce. It's become much more than that. I think the design is cool, but to each It's on. This is coming from an African American. I know a thing or 10 about racism. It was probably between a volcano or a dragon and they went with the cooler looking design. You might be right, but idk.
@@bighomie6724 that is clearly an Asian dragon and what does dragons have to do with sriracha? Using an image to make it “more Asian” is stereotyping and based in racism. Imagine if someone made a brand of doo rags and the logo was a piece of fried chicken. Wouldn’t that be racist? What does fried chicken have to do with doo rags other than to stereotypically say “this is from/for Black people”. Stereotyping Asian things have just become normalized in the west… doesn’t mean it’s not problematic.
@@PatternsofBehavior doo rags by fried chicken would be hilarious 😂. I can kinda see where you're coming from, and you're entitled to feel how you feel. It's all about prospective, I guess. Is the dragon supposed to be a negative stereotype? That's like me getting offended by watching a popeyes commercial and feeling a type of way because the lady on the fried chicken commercial is black. I know you seen an Aunt Jemima commercial. What about lucky charms and Irish people? If it were known as a Mexican style hot sauce, would it be offensive to have a chihuahua on the label? The answer is yes and no. I'm not Asian, so I don't know the cultural significance that a dragon has. Just like I didn't know what the rooster meant with the huy fong product. If an Asian person made the product, would you still feel offended by the dragon? Would it be better if the dragon looked more like a European one? You might be right and I just don't get it. It's all love bro. Thank you for taking the time out to respond. That's dope homie. Great job on the video. You got a lot of talent
Chill out on the racism thing, there’s no ill will or harmful intent. You’re just as likely to be ignorant on various things as anyone else. The key is not to be an overly sensitive, easily triggered nitwit.

I just bought a new bottle the other day and it does taste different. It’s sad that David did that to Craig. But David’s sister-in-law is definitely suspicious… The moment the huy fong duo proposed paying for acres planted was when they were plotting against underwood farm. Nobody is that nice for no reason, they wanted to gain control of their crops. But yeah they had a long standing relationship, Craig had no reason to distrust David. But damn the way David burned the bridge by not paying the advance, sharing the drone footage of the harvesting machine, then suing for that 1.3 mil was unreal! This story was definitely crazy, or dare i say SPICY! Lolll
P.S. people in the comments freaking out over the most irrelevant part of the video need to hop off their high horse. Just don’t buy huy fong siracha anymore okay lol

Glad I finally watched this. Comments everywhere kept blaming an MBA son?
It is different. Store near me has it in stock and I've seen three different shades in all the bottles. Some are more orangish, some are red like the original and some were a little more brownish. It's not bad, but it's not the same as it was originally.
I hope the Dragons get revenge ;)
I bought and tasted about a dozen different brands of Sriracha back to back with an old bottle from before the drama, and the Kroger brand Sriracha is maybe the closest to the original. The Thai brands have a more raw and umami fish sauce quality (despite not using fish sauce), and most of the other American brands are a little too sweet and not hot enough. Shocked me that a grocery store chain is getting closer to the original than all these smaller and more "authentic" brands.
idk why I'm watching this, never even tried the stuff, no reason, just never got to it i guess.
maybe I'll try a few eventually, see if i like it.
i wonder which few i should try, seems there's always been plenty but only one was popular.
And now Underwood Ranch's sriracha is far superior.
I don't see the dragon on the Underwood sauce as problematic - the font choice certainly is.
They also use this sauce to smuggle drugs ... i suppose THAT changes the flavour ;)

Not gonna support this type of Huy Fong Sriracha's greed. I gonna get my dragon Sriracha instead :)
A couple things I'd add for context:
1. Huy Fong screwing over underwood wasn't David Tran's idea, it was actually planned by Tran's son who had just received a business degree and thought he could apply what he had learned in order to increase profits
2. this one is more speculative but I think the reason Dave Tran was originally so eager to work exclusively with underwood and pay them per acre was because not only was the ranch offering consistent peppers and higher yields every year, but underwood also transported the crop directly to Huy Fong free of charge
