  • Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts is the premier thrill park in New England. This amusement park features 12 roller coasters, several notable non-coasters, and a full-fledged water park in Hurricane Harbor. This park originally opened as Riverside in the 1870s before being transformed into a Six Flags park in 2000. And I think it's the best theme park in New England. Find out why in this review and overview of the park!

Additional tip on parking if you don't have a season pass, some of the businesses across the street from the preferred lot offer all-day parking for $10. This is 1/3 the price of the official lot and a much shorter walk. Just know they are typically cash only.
The park removed single rider lines for the 2024 season. So if you're trying to do all the coasters in a single day, it makes the most sense to now start with Pandemonium. The park also usually offers cheap one-time Flash Passes for it if you want to start with something else and cannot beat the crowds over there.

Do you know how easy it is to get dropped off by a rideshare? Thinking about visiting soon and won’t have a car rental

@@mrcoasterswag Sorry for the late reply, but they have a dropoff area in a circle across the street. It's by the bridge, so it's maybe a 2-3 minute walk to the main entrance. I have never used rideshare near the park, but I imagine availability is no issue since it's by Springfield.

This is my home park. I usually go there now to ride Superman and Wicked Cyclone. They are too good to be beaten by anything else in the park. Harley Quinn, Sky Screamer, and Scream are all great flat rides I highly recommend. Love the view on Sky Screamer, and the thrill of looking straight down on Harley Quinn. There is a solid supporting cast of roller coasters. Batman, Riddlers Revenge, and Pandemonium are all good supporting coasters. Overall a great thrill park, just not as good for younger children.

This video helped us out when I *finally* made my first visit to SFNE, a couple of weeks after it went up--because I had watched it, I knew that the main parking lot was on the opposite side of the road from the park, and it kept us from getting lost. We also knew where not to park!

So glad I finally found a youtuber that's home park is also my home park! I feel like the park needs a lot of work, but also deserves a lot of praise. For being arguably one of the ONLY true thrill/amusement parks in New England, I wish it was covered more, as there arent many other high thrill/intensity rides in surrounding parks/areas. Love SFNE and definitely keeping my Diamond Elite for next season.

@@CanobieCoaster That is true, and my original comment wasnt to discredit any of the surrounding parks either. Lets be honest, Canobie and Water Country I feel make better water parks than SFNE. I actually did some research after this comment, I was surprised to see that the North East really does have a lot of amusement/theme parks, especially compared to out West. I guess it just doesnt really feel like it!

Only went a couple times as a kid, on trips organized by a friend's parents, barely remember it. I'm pretty certain I rode Thunderbolt a couple times, but I forget what the rest was. This was way back in the day, too, so I don't think Superman was even built yet. Mostly I remember just hanging out with my friends and gawking at everything. I recently got inspired to maybe make the trip back there on my own as an adult, so I went looking for info on it and some ride reviews.

Great to see that we share a home park! Superman and wicked cyclone really got me into roller coasters, as wicked cyclone had my first inversion, and over the 2023 summer at a day camp, I got on my first hyper and lapped Batman, my first b&m. This summer trip also helped me to get the courage to ride El Toro in the way back with my hands up, along with jersey devil in the front and back, all with my friend being absolutely knocked out from toro, and I think it was a little much for my frail, 11 year old body, so right now my #1 overall coaster is jersey devil, my first raptor.

Later on in 2002, Stunt Fall faced a similar delay and it didn't open until around four months after the park did.
Many enthusiasts praised them because of its intensity and smooth ride.
However, the Dèjá Vu coasters were maintenance nightmares, while Stunt Full suffered issues first but it was more allowed to work out the design's kinks, that coaster is still operating at the park today. So in 2007, Six Flags announced the closure of Dèjá Vu at Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Over Georgia.

Just went there on Friday August 13th. Typhoon was unfortunately closed but excluding that, the park was fantastic. I chose not to ride Pandemonium or Boomerang because I didn't want to waste my time with clones I've ridden at other parks and I was too nervous to ride The Joker after trying the one at Six Flags Great America and getting too nauseous on it. Superman and Wicked Cyclone were my two favorites and New England Skyscreamer had great views from the top. This is currently my fourth favorite park in the Six Flags chain.
I also remembered to try the brisket at JB's Smokehouse and Nicky's Pizza and all of it was delicious.😋

Soon after the model's announcement, Six Flags purchased not one, not two, not three, but four Giant Inverted Boomerang coasters. These would be installed at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags Over Georgia, and Warner Bros Movie World Madrid. The first three American installations were set to open in 2001, with each one being named Dèjá Vu. Later on, the Spain installation was scheduled to open in 2002 with the park under the name Stunt Fall. But each single Giant Inverted Boomerang had their openings delayed due to programming and testing issues. An issue that delayed the openings was a design flaw with the restraints, Six Flags responded it modifying the restraints with an extra bar to prevent to raise the hands too high. During testing at Six Flags Over Georgia, the catch car used to lift up the tower derailed.
After months of testing, analyzing, welding and testing again, which Dèjá Vu did open first?

Six Flags New England used to be a home park of mine for the 2005-2006 season. I visited again in 2017 for wicked cyclone. The park is good. I particularly enjoyed Superman and Wicked Cyclone. Batman is a good support coaster as well and I actually found it to be a full day park which was surprising. Aside from that I thought the pros were definitely the maintenance and convenience of the park which were above most six flags parks for me. However, I found the staff to be rude, the park was sort of ugly and lacked shade, and the food was very mediocre. It has a ways to go before it becomes a true destination park but for what it is it's a fun regional park.

There were a lot of what seemed like summer camp groups there, all these teens that just hit the Superman line en masse. I hit Wicked Cyclone first and found it was not a bad wait at all, maybe 15-20 minutes. Food service was kind of slow, but I probably could have helped that with online ordering.

The ride ops just kept sending me around until i would get up, and often I was in row 1. Superman is quite the ride, but I found the U-brick worse than Skyrush's lapbars. It still comes in at number 6 for me. Wicked Cyclone was awesome as well, so much that I had a hard time deciding which one i liked more. Batman the Dark Knight was a fun little Floorless coaster. I think enthusiasts get kind of spoiled--they're comparing it to Cedar Point or Great Adventure. Sure, if you've just ridden SFNE's two world-class elite rides, Batman or the SLC seems underwhelming, but if you put it down in any other amusement park in New England, it'd be one of the park's major coasters.
SFNE is in an odd position--it's not one of the chain's flagships, yet it's got these two elite rides and is big and pleasant enough to stand out a bit from their middle tier. And it's the *only* large coaster park in the region.

In 2012, the park added Goliath, a Vekoma giant inverted boomerang. The ride opened with the original trains (it was a relocation from Six Flags Magic Mountain), but they later created new Premier Rides trains with four across seating. What do you think about the new Premier Rides trains?
    A) These trains improved the ride, they made it smoother than the original
    B) These trains improved the expedite loading and they made an ok ride, often giving a 5
    C) These trains were intended to improve the ride's uptime and expedite loading, but these trains ruined the ride

Dèjá Vu would be rebuilt right next to the old Boomerang, replacing the Shipwreck Falls water ride in the process. As reconstruction was underway, a change was planned for the coaster.
During its initial run, Six Flags noticed a problem with how the train was designed. The original trains featured staggered seating which sat two guests per row in a V shape. The rows alternated between inside seats where two guests sat right next to each other and outside seats where two guests were spaced apart in each end. This feature was intended to allow for better views in each row, but passengers were often confused by the layout when boarding. Each pair of seats had a different gate, the way it's supposed to work is this:
First, the inside seat passengers head straight to their seats.
In the next row, the first outside passenger must walk around the inside seats to get to their own.
Then, the second passenger simply enters the ride and boards in their own seat.
This boarding procedure proved to be confusing by many guests. Sometimes, guests waiting in line would assume that the outside and inside seats were in the same row. This led to them accidentally cutting people in line. Plus, many guests didn't know they had to walk around the inside seats to get to the outside ones.
Even worse, each seat had two seat belts, one that went across the lap and one that connected the restraint to the seat. This meant that it took longer for the ride operators to check the restraints. The confusion of the seating system, as well as the double seat belt system, reportedly led to longer wait times and hampered throughput.

At 8:10, you mention how Whistlestop Park might get removed to allow for waterpark expansion, and the possibility of making it a separate gate. As of 2022, the waterpark is no longer included with admission for one day tickets. It's now an add-on. That tells me they are looking into the possibility of making it a separate gate. The waterpark also lacks a mat racer slide like Six Flags has at other waterparks, and that could possibly be added too.

The confusion of the seating system, as well as the double seat system, reportedly led to longer wait times and a hampered throughput.
These issues led Six Flags to commision American manufacturer Premier Rides for a new train design. This train would replace the staggered seating with standard straight forward four per row seating. The new train would only feature one seat belt. Six Flags hope that the new design would lead to less confusion, faster wait times, faster dispatches, and increased guest satisfaction. The new train design was planned to be used right away with the ride's reopening, however fabrication delays forced Six Flags to stick with the old trains for the time being. After living in central florida for most of my life, this is my new home park. Because i'm used to Disney quality themeing i have deeply analyzed all story elements of the Cyborg ride and have concluded that the "plot" is roughly: cyborg invites us in to participate in his study, which the queue decor informs me contains a "bleed zone." Once we're seated he begins to type things into the system via holographic interface projected onto his control room window, you watch him do his looped typing sequence for long enough to potentially notice that it is a simple qwerty keyboard and what he's typing is a bunch of garbage nonsense. Then the ride starts and something(???) has gone so terribly wrong that cyborg shuts the blinds before anything interesting could happen on screen. I'm inclined to believe that whatever went wrong had something to do with the random key pecking and swiping he did for up to 3 minutes. Regardless, he seems surprised and callously shrugs off the fact that he "nearly lost" us while assuring us that he still collected useful data. I dont know a lot about cyborg, i watched teen titans and expect that is probably the average adult rider's level of familiarity with the character. The reckless disregard for human safety is an interesting direction to take him, thanks six flags.
