You need to be very careful when downloading malware for this very reason. Also, when you execute the malware in a safe analysis environment you need to make sure that your network adapters are disabled or set to "Local Computer Only". This will help prevent the spread of malware if it has a propagation mechanism. Hope this helps.

Shouldn't cost money from reverse.it and others. The only one that costs money is VirusTotal premium/enterprise accounts.
